Crazy how people listen to one clip and form opinions of their ability to think. Louis CK thinks borders should be wide open. Sometimes comedians say something so stupid, it cancels out other things. Carr's said some dumb things too.

Jimmy is so damn eloquent. Getting to see him speak in a normal conversation kind of gives you a window into his mind. I’ve said it before, you have to be intelligent to be really funny
If you go to any pub in Britain you will find someone who could be easily be a comedian but is just content with smoking a pack of Marlboro and a pint.
Guys, firstly, America is NOT “the Empire,” only a tentacle of it. The Empire is bigger than “America”. We were re-ensnared by the Empire back in the 1800s and now we’re becoming the reality of what happens when aristocracy no longer needs us as we’ve grown accustomed to being needed as.

My father built a new house on a grocery store co manager salary in 1974 while my mom raised 5 kids and never worked. Neither of them came from any money, they had no savings and no help. There isn't anyone who can do that today because the system has been rigged against the people. Wall street and big corporations are looking to make this a nation of renters and are well under way. Company towns are coming back, where corporations own the housing you live in and you work for them as well. It's only going to get worse as it has for the last 20+ years. People's backs are to the wall and shits about to get real in this next decade. I loved this podcast but the American dream is in free fall.
Take a look at the story behind the role playing game called Shadowrun. There are nations but it's only peripheral. Mega-Corporations run everything and own everything. It's pretty distopian but seems like we are closing in on it.

But it's been on my mind a bit. Also, look around man. Here in Austin the decay is on display. It isn't only that but it's there. In other places it's worse.
@@brookss2141 Okay but maybe you don't appreciate the level of subversion already actualized by the private sector. Did you see Feinstein's estate and asset list disclosure? How can a public servant on a low six figure salary end up with almost half a billion in wealth? Systemic and total corruption is the only plausible explanation. You think these people will allow you to just vote them out? A little naive I think. They have already manipulated the variables in their favour. There is no one to vote for that isn't them. And that's an aside. The issue of cause and consequence for actions past still remains. I'm not making a comparison to the Roman empire just that there are serious issues to consider.
One important thing to note is that the collapse of the Roman Empire wasn't this big dramatic event that happened overnight and the next morning it was like a medieval Mad Max. In reality, the collapse was a very slow, gradual process that took place over decades. Rome slowly lost more and more power, while its outlying territories became more and more independent, until it just made more sense to declare themselves their own kingdoms outright.
Would say Rome fell apart quickly. Rome took nearly a millenia to reach its pinnacle. It took around 85 years to be dismantled. Gradually, yes. Yet still within the time of one human lifetime.
The government has really called things more difficult for its citizens, and we can't sit back and bear all the consequences of the bad governance. It's obvious we are headed for hyperinflation, it is always the poor who take the hit.

Rome the city declined, but 'Rome' never fell... it became the entire western world. Its still ruling the world. We're speaking languages and living under political systems based on what they built.
Something being based on X isn't the same as being X. At the height of empire, the British saw themselves as cultural successors to the Greeks and Romans (see their architecture, their worship of classics, even their music - e.g. the British grenadiers). They weren't the Romans though, that empire ceased over a thousand years before they ascended.
@@imgoingonamarch No. There is miniscule Roman genetic influence. Culturally you could say the Romans influenced and inspired a lot, but they massacred villages, tens of thousands of people, marching across Germanic Europe.. and in the end it was Germanic people (including Saxons) who conquered Western (true) Rome. They insulted us, humiliated us, scattered us, but united, we were stronger. We across Europe still hold Rome and it's empire with nostalgia and reverence though. If it wasn't for Rome, there would have been no great French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese or British Empires. The specture of Rome, the fear they put in the world that there might be some distant "great power" that might just sweep in and take over, absolutely escalated a desire recreate this pre-emptive strength and breadth.

I've always thought of post-WW2 US history to be in a period of time much like Rome after the Punic Wars. Rome came out of those conflicts as the top player in the Mediterranean, which was basically the world for all the big players living around it. Similarly, the world's oceans, now fully traversable, are just like the Mediterranean in Antiquity and the US has come to completely dominate those waters, just like Rome did in the Mediterranean
Didn't you get the Memo? America has given up on Policing the World Oceans. Time will tell if those countries who disliked a Military Presence on their land, and the demands that came with it, made a wise decision or not. That policing was put in place by the wealthiest country in the world so that countries without iron, coal, and airable land could trade for what they needed to become Industrialized. The more we look at "Civilization", the less civilized it looks. Edited to correct autocorrect
Exept the US become an empire almost by mistake namely all the competition was in ruin because of the WW1 & WW2, as any kid who become rich sudenly, US become cocky, because of that it will perish much sooner then the Rome
I see SOOO many parallels to the build up of WW1 and also the political changes of WW2. Wars everywhere, (small wars with “minor” countries ie. Gaza, ukraine, soon to be Taiwan, Africa, I bet the Middle East will pop off around Syria again.) Korean conflict can pop any moment. We see technocratic fascism rising all across Europe and the US, resurgence of Marxist post modern ideology, BLATANT propoganda and lies and dehumanizing whole peoples. What’s happening is so similar to the political and social climate of world war 2.
I think what has affected America, if not the world both positively and Negatively is the Internet. It has brought us closer together, it means new global business ideas can be created and it has simplified a lot of things. But it has also complicated a lot of things, people don’t socialise in the real world, face to face, as much and develop people skills, it also means people can react instantly to messages, in the heat of the moment, instead of sleeping on things before and perhaps giving a more measured response… making people double down and become very polarised in their views and their politics. People’s attention spans are even shorter now than they were, and algorithms mean people are forever in echo chambers surrounded by people with the same views and are rarely exposed to new ideas.

Rome became the Holy Roman Empire .
It continued under a different Religion .
Officially Rome was no more only in 1453
I think Alaric sacking it in 410AD didn't do it any favours mind Dino 😉
Would say Rome fell apart quickly. Rome took nearly a millenia to reach its pinnacle. It took around 85 years to be dismantled. Gradually, yes. Yet still within the time of one human lifetime.

It's an industry now. Both parties benefit, only the poor consumers die
Consumers are being killed on so many fronts. Pharma, Sugar and chemicals.
Uhhh what? Go tell that to all the people in prison and jail for drugs who shouldn't be locked up at all.
The purpose of the war on drugs was not to stop the drugs entirely, but to increase the prices of drugs to decrease usage. Another aspect of the war on drugs originally was to arrest people who likely opposed the war in Vietnam.

They insulted us, humiliated us, scattered us, but united, we were stronger. We across Europe still hold Rome and it's empire with nostalgia and reverence though. He was about to say “culturally we’re still on top” but checked himself and went into praising America. Saw Joe’s micro expression in the lift of the brows and took it off on another track!!!
@@mylolitaWhat???? You just made that up
@@macauley6954 Britain is a part of Europe, lol. I bet you voted for Brexit.
One of the best comments I've heard regarding the war on drugs: We can't keep drugs out of some of the highest security prisons, what hope is there in trying to keep drugs out of the country. I hope some day drug addiction won't be considered criminally punishable.

The US is still the no.1 country in the world but China will overtake it within 20-30 years.
Not trying to put you down but you are not the first to think this. The US is often said to be the modern day Roman empire.
That was so well said and such an amazing perspective and attitude. Nicely done, 100% agree!
Jimmy can talk on most subjects but take time to listen to him on stage his a master.
Never seen this side of jimmy before, definitely looking forward to watching the whole episode now!!
Same here , not really keen on him as a comedian but this pod is 10/10
@@ste2442mate watch any of his live shows or clips on UA-cam he's one of the funniest, the way he interacts with the crowd is amazing, a lot of comedians get thrown off with crowd interacting he thrives off it
Jimmy wouldn't shut up and was quite rude as he kept interrupting Joe. Think Joe found this one a struggle and was glad when he finally ended it.
@@craighart9278 Hahaha true, then again he has had Elon Musk and Neil Degrass Tyson on enough by now that his patience for interruptions is well honed.
Jimmy is incredibly articulate. Like a lot of great comedians
He is from the UK!

Its such a treat for Joe rogan to be able to meet an actually funny comic
The "war" is very profitable to the extremes, and addictive too.
