    The biggest problem with this approach is that the tail of the kick when reaching the fundamental (in this case G @49Hz) can clash with the first 16th bass note with the same frequency. This will lead to either MORE boost on that frequency or some frequency cancelation.
    I tend to use a sawtooth where the fundamental is missing (in this case no 49Hz) and I have a second track with a sine wave. This way, the first 16th of the bass has no 49Hz but the kick has so they are not clashing and the next two 16th are full range with both the "no fund saw" and "fund sine" playing.
    If the base line changes and goes semitone up for instance then I'm using both "no fund saw" and "fund sine".

    • @MarulaMusic
      @MarulaMusic  5 років тому +1

      Its not a problem per se... that's why I set the sine on a macro so it can be dialed in as needed. I usually add an envelope to the kick so the crossover between the tail and the bass notes is minimal. Splitting them like you said works too I guess, although if you really want to pull out the sub on the first note you can use an additional LFO as an Aux mod source to pull it out.

    • @ZodiacMusicPro
      @ZodiacMusicPro 5 років тому

      The sawtooth you're using has already plenty of energy @ 49Hz. The sine you are using isn't really controlling the gain of low frequency but it ADDS even more to the existing generated by the sawtooth. That'a why I'm proposing the idea of splitting the bass to a sawtooth that has NO fundamental and a sine for the lowest frequency. You can find the wavetable I'm talking about in singles -> HPF Saw. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

    • @MarulaMusic
      @MarulaMusic  5 років тому +3

      @@ZodiacMusicPro Yeah I'm well aware the saw has energy... in fact it has that same fundamental already and the sine is intended to add more to the fundamental that is already there. Not every track is going to be the same... lower bpm stuff I like a little more in the sub range for example. The patch is designed as a template, like i said, with the macros there to allow you to dial in a little extra should you want it or should the track require it rather than resorting to EQ since EQ won't follow chord changes, which I often do. Not every track will need it. I'll check out your suggestion as well.

    • @ZodiacMusicPro
      @ZodiacMusicPro 5 років тому +2

      @@MarulaMusic I get that the patch is designed as a template although I personally prefer to have more control and have a whole channel only for the fund. By the way:
      1. You can disable pitch tracking on OSC B (and A) which can be also used for a click and then you can use the noise, well for noise :)
      2. You can remove the fundamental of any wavetable you load. Just need to go to -> Osc table edit -> Process -> Remove Fundamental (HPF).

    • @MarulaMusic
      @MarulaMusic  3 роки тому +1

      I've used Strobe... I loved the sound, didn't really gel with the interface. Its really just down to whether the oscillator can be reset and whether the filters and envelopes sound right for what you're doing. Pretty sure Strobe could be really good for bass.

    Sub/OSC B isn't going to the Filter 1, so it's not getting any filter envelope on it. Wonder if this is on purpose.

    • @MarulaMusic
      @MarulaMusic  5 років тому +3

      You could if you wanted but it doesn’t really need to. Since it’s just a sine wave there is no upper harmonic content that needs filtering like the saw. Kinda the same thing as boosting that root frequency with eq but this way it’ll follow the key you’re playing.

  • @teezdalien
    @teezdalien 3 роки тому

    Just curious, how do you add extra harmonics to a saw wave when it it should already theoretically contain all harmonics in the series?

    • @MarulaMusic
      @MarulaMusic  3 роки тому +2

      You're referring to the Blackbox HG 2 in the inserts right? Just becasuse a source contains all harmonics doesn't mean you can't adjust, amplify or add more (read 'on top of exitsint') to your waveform... you're correct, a saw would have all the harmonics present (you can see this in Serum if you convert it in the fft) starting with the fundamental being most prominent and rolling off as you move up the spectrum. The HG2 in the insert chain tends to amplify harmonics in the signal after its left serum. Run a sine wave through HG2 and look at an analyzer... you can see where the harmonics are being added.
