Not making up to a million before retirement is unfulfilled retirement.!! I am retiring next yr at 55 with 3 houses paid off worth 4.5 million. One is my place of residence the other 2 properties will give me $80,000per/yr rent . I will have an income stream of $20,000 per mnth through my super biz which gives me total $240,000 a yr to live comfortably. I have no debts ... Giving credits to Roch Dungca-Schreiber, (my fin. adviser), she saw me through the process. Look-Her-Up. Stay Motivated!!!
I'm 56 and in health-care. I can't stand it anymore. It is super stressful and frustrating especially when people eat themselves into weighing 400 pounds and they demand you to fix the problems THEY created. I can't wait to retire. It's going to be great.
Retirement: picking up your phone before you get out of bed, just to know what day of the week it is! I was a special educational teacher for 29 years. Loved the children, paperwork did me end.
I had retirement thrust upon me and although it took me a minute to get over that, it is the best thing that could have happened to me. As an introvert, the business world was incredibly stressful for me. The best thing about retirement for me is that I can spend all my time thinking about whatever I want to think about!! Have a lovely day, Tim!
Am planning to retire in Summer of 2024. One of the most wonderful best-thing-about-retiring answers I heard was "the absence of those Sunday blues you get in anticipation of Monday"; I am SO looking forward to not experiencing that any longer. Not waking to an alarm clock is a very close second. Loved those memes at the end!
You are so right about those Sunday blues knowing that an early Monday morning is coming. Newly retired and enjoying every day without an alarm to wake me.
My favorite quote when I retired: “They say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day!” Best decision I ever made was to downsize, tighten my spending and retire early.
Hello Sir I wanted to suggest a mid size ice cooler / or a basic inexpensive Styrofoam cooler.. / use the ice that your freezer makes and save money buying bag ice along the way 🥤🥤 and I was laughing when you said ( doing absolutely nothing 😍 ) but I appreciate your channel the visit to the trail is relaxing / and when I'm just enjoying breakfast by candle 🕯️ light listening to the rain enjoying nature... Take care 🙏 .@@TheNewRetiredMe
Speaking of listening to the water, I was deaf for years until I had cochlear implant surgery. I cried the first time I heard a waterfall. I can't enough of the sound of a waterfall, a stream with rippling water, or the ocean. It is so peaceful and calming.
I just discovered your channel. The algorithm recommended you. I was forced to retire a few years ago by my body. I’ve been sad about it. Your videos are encouraging me to count my blessings and keep living a different life. I taught health science and loved it. I miss my students. I’ll keep watching you. ❤
Yeah: “hurt in the line” and misdiagnosed. So hiking isn’t going to happen without multiple rest stops. But the Grandma part is fantastic. I’m so enjoying caregiving for my surprise grandbaby.
"Perfecting the art of being busy." - LOL!!! That statement literally made me laugh out loud!! I am four weeks away from my third (and final) retirement (July 31, 2024) and have already started to hone my own personal art of looking busy profile. The bucket list of things to do when I retire is growing exponentially, thanks in part to some of your videos! LOVE the beautiful areas that you explore, especially waterfalls and what I call "lost history" in the outdoor museums. Thank you so very much for taking your viewers along for the ride. Really appreciate your candor, humor, and the knowledge you share!
Your posts compare and contrast the beauty AND the difficulties of retirement. Your points about stress resonate. My watch tells me my pulse and oxygen saturations and more. 15-30 minutes revives me. My grandfather worked a b lock from the house and would go home for lunch (supper) daily. (Nooner?) One summer when I was about 10 years old I was visiting (we lived 2 miles away) and I recall him lying down for a brief rest before heading back to work and thinking to myself, "Why would grandpa WANT to take a NAP?" Now I KNOW!
going on four years for me, the only thing i miss is weekends as now everyday is a Saturday without the crowds. When those that still punch a timeclock ask me if i an enjoying retirement i tell them of all the careers i have endured this one agrees with me most.
I didn’t plan on retirement. I had both knees replaced at the same time and planned on returning to my RN hospital job. My husband had been retired for four years. I was working because I loved my job and I could work 6 - 8 days a month and get health insurance for $40/month. My knees did great but when I was released to go back to work, my husband didn’t want me to. He liked me being home and not driving 100+ miles per day so I stayed home. It took me 2 years to not want to go back to work. When I’d go to my work city, that hospital was like a magnet pulling me back. Fast forward and I can’t be happier with retirement for all the reasons you listed plus more. I’d tell people to retire as soon as you can. You never know what’s going to happen tomorrow.
“… any damned day I want!”, was so refreshing to hear and spot-on! This is exactly why I want to retire! To do the things I want, on my schedule. Including not doing anything! If I can get there, I’m going to give you a run for your money! Thank you so much for this channel!
My doctor told me I should get a job. He said that after he reviews all my meds (none) and my BP (110/70) LoL. Thirty years of teaching is plenty. I love my life.
I'm not yet retired; but moving towards. I enjoy your life concepts. I find them helpful. I can plan and prepare and celebrate on the way to retirement. Thanks again!
After raising a family, working 10 years for an "Overnight delivery Co", and 20 years in an Emergency Dept, I was so ready to Retire at 65. I love being able to do what I want, when I want, even if that's staying in my PJs all day! Have a Blessed and Wonderful Day Tim!
It is so liberating! I am an Army Vet and retired Federal government manager. I love when people ask what I do all day. My response is always “whatever I want and sometimes that means NOTHING!” After working for 40 years, I simply no longer wish to do so and I LOVE it!
I was widowed at. 39, with four little ones left. I had to go back to Puerto Rico because I was in the accident and very seriously hurt. My parents had to care for me and the kids. We never sued the dentist who killed my son Dan husband, so the life insurance is all but gone. I raised the four Aline and returned to work as a teacher for 15 years and retired. Obviously my retirement is not enough. I taught in PR and that retirement is substantially lower than in the main land , plus I did not work a full term. I am retired now and just love that time is mine all mine!!!
I’m so sorry for your losses and admire your strength and sacrifices for your family. Enjoy retirement in all its many forms and please, there is no shame in accepting public assistance (especially with food prices). Peace
I'm also a retired educator. I was built for retirement! I have so many interests and hobbies, volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, and never get bored. I love that I can do what I want whenever I want for as long as want or do nothing at all. I often joke that it is startling how little I accomplish some days. Life is good! My brother (and one sister, too) is also a retired teacher and he has been out for almost 21 years and at 76, he rides his bike 12 miles a day, plays tennis and pickle ball every day, 'lives' in Key West 4 months out of the year and is the poster child for being laid back.
"I can go hiking or adventuring and damn day I want..." You are hilarious and so correct. Being retired gives me the ability to do pretty much anything I want and that is wonderful! Your hike looks so peaceful.
I truly enjoy your videos, I recently retired after 48.5 years in the same factory. To be honest I have had a hard time adjusting to retirement, but I'm getting the hang of it. Keep the videos coming and thanks.
I was unexpectedly retired .. really threw me for a loop. Took me 2 yrs to come out of the stress and fog of what to do, to start to realize I am going to be ok and now help friends and family with cleaning, painting, organizing and tons of watching my two grandkids.
At age 69, I own my own business and absolutely love what I do. I resist leaving the office every evening. I look forward every evening to going to work the next day. I have encountered some health issues this year (not life-threatening) and people keep throwing the "R" word at me. Watching your videos has been enlightening. I am hoping that watching them will aid me in moving on from being resigned to the inevitable and perhaps cause me to look forward with happy anticipation to living the "R" word . My office lease expire Feb. 2025, and I am trying to convince myself to retire at that time. Your videos may help me prepare now and adjust at that time. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
My favorite outlook on retirement came from my father. I was still working & it was my first visit to my parents since Dad’s retirement. His first words at the breakfast table that morning were “well, they’re paying me to stay home again today.” Love that thought. I retired now myself, and I understand.
I worked in the school system after my youngest went to kindergarten. Working in the cafeteria and supervising on the playground. Later i was a clinical assistant through Methodist hospital to take care of medical needs of 400 students. I loved k-3 but i saw first hand how hard teachers worked and administration was a super hard job for the reason you mentioned, you deal with students, teachers and parents!!
I especially enjoyed the Memes you shared. My husband took an early retirement and people would ask him what he was going do with all the free time he would have. I felt he had the perfect answer to those folks. "I will do whatever I want!"😊
Freedom! Freedom! Freedom from dusting making cleaning sooooo much easier and freeing up time, should make one want to dance back and forth down the hall like those in the Freedom. Flashmob at Santa Cruz, CA. 😊🎉
What you say makes so much sense to an awful lot of people. I've worked for thirty eight years and lost my husband January 2023 after looking after him for four years, so THERES A LOT TO TO, so i haven't done a lot and find myself at 3.00pm still in my nighty. In uk at the moment its 75o indoors, to hot to do anyhing, but i will finish my de-clutter, file my paperwork away, and do some cleaning. Never thought that when i find myself on my own i would suddenly develop the " i really can't be bothered attitude " one thing though although alone, I'm not lonely and eventually i will get to your stage..
Oh my God, do I identify with you! I am getting ready to retire in the next year or two, and you have addressed many of the issues that I have been concerned about. I work for state government, and we have been working from home because of Covid. We are still working from home. And I love it, and I can wear PJs all day long! I’m going to go back to your other video about cleaning stuff out, which is what I need to do. My wife and I are book people, and between the two of us we could probably start a library. I’m sure we have probably 10,000:to 15,000 books between the two of us. But hey, we’ve been married 30 years when you pick up a book here you pick up another one there, they accumulate. And 95% of the books we get either at Goodwill, garage, sales, or half price bookstores. I’ve learned not to pay full price. The big question I would have for you, did you retire with a medical plan, did you go on Medicare, or did your work have some thing? That is an issue I am dealing with. I could retire right now, as I have the points so to speak, but I would have no medical. If I wait 2 to 3 more years, I might have Medicare. Thanks again, love your videos, just found them today. Have a great day.
What a lovely setting and it looks like you had it all to yourself. I have found two bonuses from being retired: 1) As an introvert, I can choose to be with people or not. 2) The relaxed time frame has led me to explore new interests and creative outlets. When your nose is to the grindstone and you're trudging along in a rut, so many things get missed.
Recently retired teacher here. I love sleeping in until 7:00 a.m. I threw out the alarm clock the day after I retired. I get to go to the bathroom whenever I want. I can eat lunch when I want. Today I went to the orchard across town to pick peaches. I didn't have to plan it. I just did it. I have been asked to return to the classroom as they have a teacher shortage here. The answer is a firm NO. My time is now MY time.
My husband passed away and after a year i decided I hated my job enough that I was willing to tighten my spending, track every penny and look around for all the inexpensive or free entertainment I could to enjoy my time instead of just putting my time in.
Retired six years ago and one thing that makes me very happy is waking up and spending way too much time trying to figure out what day it is. Every day is the weekend. 🎉 If you ever get around Collegedale you should find the trails at Southern Adventist University. Great place to hike.
I was forced into retirement but now when I look back, it was a gift! The best part of retirement is not being micromanaged ever again! 😅l can breathe!!!
I have been retired 9 months and have reached a contentment that had been missing for some time. I laugh and smile easier, my brow is less furrowed, and the expanse of an unplanned day is a delight. I am suspecting retirement is the gift that keeps on giving
I can so relate to your post this week. I retired 7 years ago as a high school principal's secretary. I loved my job up to the minute I walked out the door, but the next morning when I woke up and said "I can do anything I want," I was on Cloud 9 and have never looked back! You are on that first year retirement "high" and enjoying it to the fullest! Like many other people have commented . . your posts are delightful; your sense of humor and laid back personality is very refreshing. Keep "em coming!
I love being retired, too! I go to the nearby park and hike any time I choose. While I am out there walking on a beautiful day, I always remind myself and appreciate the fact that I am NOT slaving away at work like I did for many years. It always puts a smile on my face to feel the liberation in my heart. Like you, I was a teacher, and you speak truth when you say that teaching is an impossibly stressful job. Now we can enjoy our peace. We've earned it!
Thank you for sharing some shots of the waterfall and lake. I love the beauty of a waterfall. In my younger years I loved a hike in the mountains. I'm now retired and have become a couch potato. I also love retirement for the fact that I can do what I want when I want or nothing at all if that suits me. Like you I did not like the length of time it took to get home from work, especially on a Friday. I do not miss the long commute, or the office cliques. Thanks or sharing.
Lovely video. Beautiful area to walk in. I like all the reasons re the retirement and agree with them. That sit down at the lake…..was that your third stop!! 🫢 At the moment I’ve stopped gardening and I’m laid on my swing seat watching UA-cam vids. AND I don’t care. Jobs will still be there tomorrow. Can’t wait for your next outing vid.
I’m an educator in Arkansas and it’s so nice to hear a retired administrator who understands the struggle. I’m 61 and in year 37 and teach special education self-contained at the high school level (10-12). I am part of an amazing district with wonderful administrators which allows me to keep going! I tried retirement after 30 years and it didn’t take. ❤😂
Loved this post. As a newly retired health care worker I am still adjusting but love being retired. Just need to start being more productive but that will come! Thanks again for your insight and calm, honest demeanor!
I enjoy your content. It’s refreshing and interesting. You nailed it about the reasons educating is so stressful. I highly dislike the fact that it’s constantly changing in all kinds of directions. I’m 2 years away from retirement. I can’t wait!
I always said I never wanted to retire, that I would work till noon the day of my funeral. Then I found something I really wanted to do so I retired, sold everything I own and now live and travel full time in a van. I'm happy 😁
Laid off from IBM in 2012, my spouse died from cancer in 2013. I felt pretty lost. Worked 37 years in IT, much of the time on-call. Plus working with people on the other side of the world. I adjusted now and everyday is another vacation day. Don't have to put up with any dumb things at work and I don't have to drive 50-60 minutes each way to work. I used to get so tired from lack of sleep. 71 now and just do what I want.
I’ve been easing into retirement. 😁 A couple of years ago, I took a job as head custodian of our school…just 228 steps from my front door. I took a huge pay cut from being a hotel maintenance manager, but the trade offs made it worth it! No more driving to work, dodging deer on the highway, and believe me, a school is a far nicer environment than a hotel! 😃 I’m just taking it one year at a time, but will probably retire in the next year or so. And yes, a big benefit will be going for a walk whenever we want to…that and drinking a lot of coffee! 😃 Have a great week! ☕️🇨🇦☕️
I lived in Knoxville 10 years ago and remember well the traffic on and off the interstate, then I moved back to middle TN and worked downtown Nashville. I realized the Knoxville traffic wasn’t so bad 😂. I like retirement and the flexibility that comes with it. I’m happy not to fight traffic or stress over driving in inclement weather to get to work.
Sounds like you are in recovery, not retirement. I come from a family full of educators and I have heard the struggle that every dedicated educator experiences. I think every educator who has given 20+ years of their lives to this underappreciated career should be given 6 months to a year of free unlimited guidance and assistance in recovering from the stress, battle fatigue, and assault that being an educator brings. It is going to take some time for you to get to retirement; mentally, physically and emotionally. You have the time to recover, relax and enjoy the rest of your life. You might even find another vocation that fits your top ten list of reasons for loving retirement baked right into it. Could happen, with a few modifications. Say perhaps, not pajamas but maybe a style equally as comfortable. As always, enjoyed the post. Thank you for sharing your life with the rest of us. Take good care and enjoy the recovery.
I’m so looking forward to retirement in 7 years and change. After decades of working, it is our time to relax and and enjoy life. My hat is off to you for having been in education in this day and age as it is a much different world than the one in which we grew up.
Only recently subscribed to your channel . Like humble voyager below! I too had my retirement thrust upon me to some extent as I was made redundant at 54 , but having worked by that time for 39 years , I thought , well why not ! I worked hard all of my life and have a nice home and ok for health wise . It was great at first , but I soon got into the Manuchia of cleaning the house over and over and not doing much else . I do have holidays and girl holidays too , but your outlook on life and your calm demeanour is having an affect on how I’m thinking moving forward . I’m from uk so things are a bit different for us here , with cultural differences too . But I’m so glad I’ve found your channel as you bring me a sense of peace . Thank you .
If you can start spending some time walking. It is free and the world looks different at 1.5 to 3 miles per hour. Even a congested urban area is fun to explore on foot. Don't forget to take a snack and some water to drink. Best wishes on finding your joy in retirement.
We are a lot alike. I love mornings, hiking and photography- being retired allows me to enjoy life so much more. At our age, being active and not having stress will enhance and prolong our lives immeasurably
It was as if i wrote your script! i too still enjoy getting up early...not a fan of hot afternoons, but it has taken 3 years to learn to nap during day. I went back to my Alma Mater high school for my last 15 years and left at 66. There is goood reasoning behind stopping at 65...stamina and patience decline, as medical situations arise. I thank God every morning when I open my eyes..its a great life! Susan in Va
Hehehe you are the loveliest ‘evil’ man on UA-cam 😂😂😂😂 I have about 10-15 years before I get to retire and after watching this video, I am so looking forward to it!! Enjoy every minute of it, you have earned it! Xx
Your former colleagues must be jealous of you...rub it in all you want...their time is coming and they will understand it all then! Lovely video. New sub'r here, and I am sure glad I found you. Happy new career being retired! 👍🥰
"It is so peaceful" Peace is my most highly valued commodity in retirement. I guard it.
Peace and "free time" or "Me Time". Just having time to take a breath, do what you want or do nothing at all.

Ditto, HumbleVoyager! 😊
Same thing happened to me. It’s taken awhile to get over it, but I’m moving on and have much less stress.
Same thing happened to me. I agree with everything you said. I do not miss corporate life one bit. Love peace of mind, no stress, my time is my time.😊
Agree! I can identify with you.
Me two! Early retirement followed by first night ever spent in hospital in a coma, two years after retirement. It has been a rocky road!
I just retired at 62 and LOVE IT! I’ve never been happier.

I love retirement. I do what I want, when I want, if I want, for as long as I want.
No drama! 16 women in one office for 20 years! One bathroom! Now my own bathroom and husband out to work still and a sleepy dog! Yeah! Nice video Tim!
👍
Thank you for your videos. Im scared about retiring as I think I might be bored. This video is making me think, maybe retirement won’t be too bad.
The pajama thing cracked me up, 😂😂😂👌
🤣
At 76 I am sitting here working and struggling with the concept of retiring again. This video is quite the message. The struggle is real.

My wife and I have been retired for 5 years. It's all about the freedom. Everyday is Saturday! As my wife likes to say, "I do want I want"!

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
now THIS is retirement!
Lovely views and photos ...you looked really refreshed after your hike 😊
Good reasons too
My favorite outlook on retirement came from my father. I was still working & it was my first visit to my parents since Dad’s retirement. His first words at the breakfast table that morning were “well, they’re paying me to stay home again today.” Love that thought. I retired now myself, and I understand.
😂 except that our contributions to social security and taxes...but still a funny way to say that!
I agree with all your reasons for loving retirement...I've been retired 13 years and 5 months (not that I'm keeping count) and it never gets old.
🤗🙂
Enjoy being retired. Mine is 90 days away and moving to Thailand the next week! Can't wait.😊
Thailand?!? How cool!!!
I especially enjoyed the Memes you shared. My husband took an early retirement and people would ask him what he was going do with all the free time he would have. I felt he had the perfect answer to those folks. "I will do whatever I want!"😊
🙂🙂
Excellent video! Loved the scenery. Thanks so much for the walk. 😅
You look great and so does the “scenery”. Thank you
Freedom!
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. May you find the peace beyond understanding moving forward.
Beautiful, thank you for sharing and making me smile xx
You have to find a routine in retirement ! I have projects and a good garden.. I am a young retiree..
Good stuff. Enjoy your day. Carole
🤗
Naps are wonderful.. and not knowing what day it is .and no Friday night traffic 😴
I’m in my last year in special education. I’m retiring now vicariously through you and look forward to June 2024 and joining you.
2 months to go!!!
Retired six years ago and one thing that makes me very happy is waking up and spending way too much time trying to figure out what day it is. Every day is the weekend. 🎉
If you ever get around Collegedale you should find the trails at Southern Adventist University. Great place to hike.
Thanks Tim, just watching this while i relax on my bed. Retirement is great!😂
😊
Fantastic list of reasons for liking retirement. I particularly liked the last one which made me laugh out loud. See you soon.
💙💜💚 Ha! 'Course, I guess I should buy some pajamas.' Thanks for the giggle and for your down-home, NEEDED common sense. Peace, indeed.
I have 15 more years until retirement , and it seems like a lifetime away. I enjoy your videos ..keep em coming
Beautiful scenery, thanks so much for sharing! ❤😘😊
☺
Thanks for sharing.
Yes we have!
At the moment I’ve stopped gardening and I’m laid on my swing seat watching UA-cam vids.
😊you look so happy! Enjoy every minute of it! Thank you for sharing your park outing with us. Beautiful place.
Loved this post. As a newly retired health care worker I am still adjusting but love being retired. Just need to start being more productive but that will come! Thanks again for your insight and calm, honest demeanor!
Love the falls ❤
Ok guy, here I am I want to support your channel and I hope me been here you'll show me something new about retirement.
Good luck 🙌
I enjoy your content. It’s refreshing and interesting. You nailed it about the reasons educating is so stressful. I highly dislike the fact that it’s constantly changing in all kinds of directions. I’m 2 years away from retirement. I can’t wait!
🤗 you almost there!
Yes!
Enjoy your videos….thanks 👍
I always said I never wanted to retire, that I would work till noon the day of my funeral. Then I found something I really wanted to do so I retired, sold everything I own and now live and travel full time in a van. I'm happy 😁
I chuckled through this entire video. The pajama and meme comments 😂. You are point on about retirement!
I can definitely relate to the feeling of being free to enjoy my leisure time however I see fit to do that, every day!
Recovery. I like that word. :)
I miss working. I miss the students. So, I am volunteering with TNPromise, Reading Buddies, and teaching home economics to a homeschool student.
I’m so looking forward to retirement in 7 years and change. After decades of working, it is our time to relax and and enjoy life. My hat is off to you for having been in education in this day and age as it is a much different world than the one in which we grew up.
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful place, and for making me laugh. Finally, memes I find funny!1
Thank you 🙏🏻 I will try harder at that xx
We are a lot alike. I love mornings, hiking and photography- being retired allows me to enjoy life so much more. At our age, being active and not having stress will enhance and prolong our lives immeasurably
All great reasons, and the memes were delightful! :)
Understood the pj's!!
Susan in Va
I retired in June from education. You are correct! It is a stressful job. I do miss the kids, though.
Hehehe you are the loveliest ‘evil’ man on UA-cam 😂😂😂😂 I have about 10-15 years before I get to retire and after watching this video, I am so looking forward to it!! Enjoy every minute of it, you have earned it! Xx
😊
Your former colleagues must be jealous of you...rub it in all you want...their time is coming and they will understand it all then! Lovely video. New sub'r here, and I am sure glad I found you. Happy new career being retired! 👍🥰
Thanks for sharing!
Why is he so adorable? And funny as hell.😂
Lol. Thank you!
Good morning. Good video. Felt like I was walking with my brother. It is 5:58 am. I am ready for a nap. 😊
It’s 9 am here. Me too!
Now be nice to those who can’t retire yet. Good video. Shalom and God Bless ❤
I’ve been retired for 7 academic years- not keeping track or anything, right? 🎉🎉 I love it!
What a wonderful walk. I love the beauty and peace.
Retired USN. Great video to wake up to and start the day! Thanks. 🚶♂️
