Crowd Pleasing to the Audience. This is The Hawthorne Cabs Signature. Play to the People. The Greatest Drum and Bugle Corps of all time. case closed.
My father was with the Yankee Rebels in the 1950s and early 60s. As very small children our mother would put us in base drum cases for our naps. My family traveled to Miami a couple of times for competitions. We never missed a March of Champion's competitions in Baltimore. In 1974 I was Miss. Rebel for the Yankee Rebels hosting of the March of Champion's.
I was in HS marching band in NJ and some of the band parents were in the Caballeros back in the day. Once it a while, from the bleachers one of the parents would stand up, whip out his trumpet & play the solo at13:05 when everything was dead silent before we began our opener, Malaguana. It was pretty nuts. Fun times!!!
Wow!! Such great refreshing memories for me! My older brother has graduated from Hawthorne High School there too. This is a great video! I love it. We used to live in Hawthorne together (December 1st 1970 through February 17th 1979). It was my favorite childhood town....and still is..for over many years now. The Caballeros were great! Thanks for sharing!
drum corps at its best, when it was truly inspirational to watch the marching and manermuring and the special effects made it great unlike today its about some theme, ive tried to get interested 60s 70s thats what was great
This was a big part of my life 20s. If you wanted precision and execution you had the Madison Scouts and the Phantom Regiment, but if you wanted to have rhythm and fun you had the Hawthorne Caballeros and the Muchachos. In my humble opinion.
Back then the video recordings were horrible the camera people would focus on one person maybe the back of his head or on the side of those three members or whatever they're called they would focus on one person and a color guard all by yourself or they would focus on somebody playing finger cymbals when the solo soprano would be playing a solo is very very poor back then things have gotten a lot better thank you
Still gives chills.
Thank you for this wonderful memory😊

Thank you for the Kind words!! We're still at it!! 🥁🎺
My favorite senior corp.
One of the most powerful horn lines I have ever heard. You could feel it.
Thanks for uploading this! My grandfather is the bugle player at about 4:18 and it's awesome to have this footage and be able to show my friends.
Blessed with great memories are you!

The good old days.
Best 2nd place corps ever! That’s why it was such an honor to beat them. Long Island Sunrisers 1977 DCA Champs.
Love this honking hornline.
How about the Rifle line! Everything was awesome that night!

Today's corps are not interested in entertaining an audience.
I gave it up in late ‘90’s?early ‘2k?. About the time the pit went from the 30 yd line’s. Never, ever liked the pit. And the gawd awful flag’s.
Soloists: Gene Marrotta; George Delmonte; Steve Raclowski; and Slim Collins hitting the highest notes. Great performance!
Pappa George Del passed away 3 yrs ago this may
I remember watching their sop soloists and wanting to be just like that when I grew up. Absolutely loved that corps!
Can't help being impressed.
My all time Favorite Drum & Bugle Corps
Mine too.
My first DCA finals performance! I don’t understand with the tick system how we lost by a half of a mistake.
Old time IN.YOUR.FACE.DRUM.CORPS. Nothing better.
My favorite Drum and Bugle Corps video hands down!!!! Love ya Charlie!!!

You could give Tyrone some credit!!
Great show but not enough to stop the Sunrisers from winning their first of two titles in a row.
Wow!
Pit ? We don't need no stinkin' pit !
lol
Jimmy Russo was the Elvis of Drum corps Bar none.
More like Liberace on the side 😂

I'm pretty sure my father was marching with the cabs In 77
Why do modern color guards LACK what their predecessors created?
🤯🤔❤️😎😇😎❤️🤯
Frank Russo in Allentown
I think Chuck Mangione would have been quite ill listening to the percussion version of "Land of Make Believe."
