You're definitely a lot younger than me, but I appreciate the love for the platformer genre and it's nice to see different stuff like New N Tasty + Impossible Lair in there. I've recently been playing Mr Run and Jump + Penny's Big Breakaway on my Series X, since they were finally on sale recently.
I just started playing SpongeBob Truth or Square a few days ago... Never played a SpongeBob game before and haven't seen the show either but I have to say this is a creative platformer that's lots of fun.
When it got down to the top five I was thinking “Hey he missed Psychonauts!” I didn’t expect to see it. Ranked at number one. I can’t disagree with that at all. Psychonauts 2 is an absolute must play bucket list game. The story, the art direction, the worlds and level design, and much more just come together for such a memorable experience.
Super Mario galaxy, psychonauts 2, Mario 64, Celeste, it takes 2, are some of my favorites in no particular order. I know the ori franchise is technically metroidvania, but I’d throw it in since it’s one of my all time favorite franchises and I love the platforming in it.
I truly think Rayman Origins and Legends are the best platformers ever developed, they have perfectly balanced difficulty, memorable characters, incredible soundtracks and they are just flat out fun.
Love your picks & the video however with what you mentioned highlighting Mirrors Edge, A LOT of games have held up from the 7th gen, seems like you need to go back & play some of them….
I can accept not having Sonic at number one, but to not even have him anywhere near the top 5… That’s unacceptable! 🤨 Other than that, you’ve got some decent games in the list… 😎
I kinda enjoy Sonic games but it is also a character that is so antithetical to most platform design. What is the point of exploring when you are playing as a character whose selling point is blazing through the level?
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 2. Banjo Kazooie 1 3. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze 4. Super Mario World 2:Yoshi's Island 5. Spyro 3 Conker is not really a platformer, wth? Also, the controls and movement suck. I loved it back in the day but it has not aged well.
Great vid but please use 'unique' properly. It's distracting each time you say 'very unique' or 'most unique' as it doesn't make sense. Do you mean 'interesting' or 'different' ?I' Anyway 😁 Mine would be 5. AstroBot, 4. Super Mario World, 3. Super Mario 3D World, 2. Super Mario Galaxy 1.Super Mario Wonder. Mario Odyssey, Galaxy 2, Sunshine, Mario 64, could replace Super Mario World but had to choose one. AstroBot is the only non-Mario platformer than comes close to Nintendo's mascot and I've played and loved loads (Psychonauts 2, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Yooka-Laylee, Rayman 2 & Legends, Little Big Planet, Little Nightmares I & II, WonderBoy, Pac-Land, Mega-Man 2, Donkey Kong Country & TF and loads more). I thought about including the Ghost n' Goblins and Zelda games because they have great platforming sections but I wouldn't class them as platformers
Psychonauts 2 is ridiculously good! That game has so much soul😭
1- Conkers Bad Fur Day
2- Mario Galaxy
3- Psychonauts (1 and 2)
4- Mario 64
5- Astro Bot (Rescue Mission)
"Mickey Mouse Rebrushed" Is A New Gem Also,They Did A Great Job

Also, Little Big Planet forever.
For me it’s 1-Mario sunshine 2 crash bandicoot 3 Spyro 4 rayman 5 psychonauts 2
Best 2D platformer: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Best 3D platformer: Super Mario Odyssey

Imagine a new Banjoo game, just thinking about the potential soundtrack makes me happy
Mario 64 is the best game of all times. It showed everyone how to make a 3D platformer.
1.Mario Odyssey
2.Rachet & Clank Rift apart
3.Bakeru
4.Astro bot
5.Donkey kong
6.Nikoderiko
7.Super Lucky Tale
My personal favorite is Mario 64. To this day, games are based on the mechanics that Mario 64 introduced.
When it got down to the top five I was thinking “Hey he missed Psychonauts!”

That is how I would describe Spyro as well
Especially with the ps1 startup it really transported me into the game
Great choice for #1
Excluding Yoshi’s Island is a crime.
N.Sane trilogy is made artificially harder than the original releases, because they messed up the movement controls.
This is a great personal list. Glad to see Mirror’s Edge and SMB on your list. Throw in Shovel Knight, and you have a winner!

I used to play tons on master system and megadrive but never got into 3d platformers
Solid list!
My short N64 list is:
- Banjo Kazooie
- Rocket Robot on Wheels
- Mario 64
- Buck Bumble
Did I miss something or is there no Mega Man on the list?
No Battleblock Theater 😭
Where's tinykin
Ooh, thats another great one. I forgot about it
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2
2. Banjo Kazooie 1
3. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
4. Super Mario World 2:Yoshi's Island
5. Spyro 3
Conker is not really a platformer, wth? Also, the controls and movement suck. I loved it back in the day but it has not aged well.
Terraway on the vita is top 3 for me.
Xbox should put this character in a universe
Mirrors edge runs great on deck tambien.
Its your choices but crash higher then Mario . Hmmmmm
Impossible Lair is the best Donkey Kong game not named Donkey Kong.
Also “Kaze and the wild masks”
Tomba 2
Jaywood please remove the spam comments
