First of all, his mannerisms and nervous demeanor was adorable in this. What a finish. I love his raspy and strong vocals on some lines. Also the Instrumental is so crisp in this. Props to everyone there.
The fact that he's singing the word "alive" at the end reminds me of his performance in Sondheim's "Company". He *nailed* this!! I will never tire of his voice, he is phenomenal, and he always delivers in everything that he sings. He never half-asses anything, he always puts his entire body and soul into every song he performs!! LOVE THIS!!

A LITTLE scary to sing? Jesus, no one hits this. The stones to even try it .. bless him. I've been judgemental towards others who rearranged the song to suit their needs, and Raul did it here as well, but he didn't shy away the ending which is just stupidly challenging. I just went on a rollercoaster of emotions. His voice gives me hints of Adam Pascal. Literally by the first chorus, I had tears in my eyes! He has so much character in his voice and he sings with so much passion! I feel so ashamed that this is the first time I’ve heard his voice! He is a vocal beast. You think with the rasp and huskiness of his voice he’d top out, but those top notes were so full and resonant. He sounded like he could’ve easily went higher. I would’ve definitely stood for that! Complete, hill body chills by the first 15, 20 seconds! He is a true story teller! I’m a fan! Okay, this is bad, I’ve watched this like 10 times and it hasen’t gotten old!
Raul Esparza is incredible. Bi king. He played the role of Johnathan Larson in Tick Tick Boom after Larson's death. You need to watch his performance as Robert in Company from 2006. The full show is on UA-cam
I saw the original Off-B'way production several times. You could get discount tix for like 20 bucks, and the theatre was really intimate, so even the "cheap seats" were great. (I think it may have been the Jane St, where Hedwig also started? But I can't be arsed to look it up at the mo' cuz I'm sobbing after this performance.) It was truly a transcendent live theatrical experience, made even more special by the fact that it was so sparse. There was no real set design, the band was onstage with the 3 performers, and they all just wove this beautiful story right in front of you and carried you along. Raul is definitely channeling that spirit here- he's just absolutely magical. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you.

I purchased a ticket to the live stream of Miscast22 specifically to see Raúl Esparza's performance (the entire event was spectacular!), and was saying to myself this afternoon how I'd LOVE hearing his version of "Come to Your Senses" on a loop so I could just replay it for an hour (or 2), and here it is!! Thank you SO much for posting this video!!! It is just wonderfully sung and performed by Mr Esparza (no surprise) who gives the song such depth to its emotion (a relationship in trouble) with his interpretation of the original. You can sense the deepness of the soul-searching he's brought to the song as he wrings out every ounce of pain and confusion, lamenting the condition of that relationship going south. ("And I don't know what to do.") Glad for that beautiful intro he gave to the song choice from Tick Tick Boom, when he was in the original cast 2 decades ago as Jon. I had read a brief account by him some time back where he referenced the aftermath of 9/11 in NYC. As always, anything Raúl has to say is well-thought out and heartfelt. Lovely to hear him state how much that show has meant and still means to him through the years. As always, a humble gentleman speaks...when his talent speaks for itself. 💙🎤🎶 This is a beautiful song choice for yet another turn of his in Miscast! Thank you, Raúl, for a sublime performance in an evening filled with them. Think it's time to return to the B'way stage...or at least, consider making an actual album. Your fans would love that!
As much as I enjoyed the film incarnation of Tick Tick Boom, and as impressed as I was with Andrew “Not- a- Singer”*Garfield’s singing, it couldn’t hold a candle to Esparza’s version of “Why.” He just pours so much joy into it. *His opinion, not mine. I think he’s got nice pipes.

Amazing. Loved the look and nod at the pianist/music director at 4:52....probably to signal it's ok to go for it for the high ending with the modulation up. You're on the air, I'm under ground
Signal's fading, can't be found
I finally open up
For you I would do anything
But you've turned off the volume
Just when I've begun to sing
Come to your senses
Defenses are not the way to go
And you know, or at least you knew
Everything's strange, you've changed
And I don't know what to do to get through
I don't know what to do
I have to laugh
You sure put on a show
Love is passe in this day and age
How can we expect it to grow?
You as the knight
Me as the queen
All I've got tonight
Is static on a screen
Come to your senses
The fences inside are not for real
If we feel as we did, and I do
Can't you recall when this all began
It was only you and me
It was only me and you
But now the air is
Filled with confusion
We replace care with illusion
It's cool to be cold
Nothing lasts anymore
Love becomes disposable
This is the shape of things
We cannot ignore
Come to your senses
Suspense is fine if your just an
Empty image emanating out
Of a screen
Baby be real, you can feel again
You don't need a music box melody
To know what I mean
Deep in my eyes, what do you see
Deep in my sighs, listen to me
Let the music commence from inside
Not only one sense, but use all five
Come to your senses
Come to your senses
Come to your senses
Baby come back
Alive
