I have built over 300 +subs in my time. I have tested the Rockville k9 and found nothing wrong with it. It is a good sounding sub. In fact I think they all sound pretty good. For the value and price point you can't beat the Rockville just don't overpower it.
I hope Rockville fired the marketing guy for this whole 1000w rms thing. I like the look of the K9, and at 600w you'd be fine. I'd never buy from a company that doesn't admit fault when its so obvious. All they had to do is market this sub correctly and it would've sold so well. Great video as always man.
I have 2 K9 10’s on an Audiocontrol LC1.800 and it’s insanely well matched. Zero coil stink, sounds incredible. I think you’re 100% correct, stick to less than 600ea and you’ll be in the sweet spot.
Rockville's marketing techniques leave something to be desired...but many of their products do pretty dang good for the money. I think the name, Rockville, harkens back to the good/bad old days of 'Rockwood' and 'Kenford' and the other knock-offs, but they aren't knock-offs of anything.
I had a K9 it was ok on low power. My RE12.1 at 3/4 volume an you would smell coil before a full song was over. I sold it awhile back. Not sure if the kid I sold it to still has it. Now I have a T3 T2000 motor with custom recone. Nice little upgrade lol.
I bought the Rockville DBcomp5 and been running it on a pair of SAv2s. But I just bought a Honda CRV and been thinking of walling it and running the DBcomp5 on 6 K9 12s and just watch the haters hate 😂
Def, one of the best budget subs around, too bad they don't make them anymore. I was able to find two for my sister about two years and go running in Audiopipe apcl1500, and gets it all day long. I ran four in my SUV for a few years. Changed amps multiple times and beat the snot out if them too. After five years of me tearing them up gave them to my nephew and he is now using them. One of the best subs I've owned.
Should of thrown the JL Audio 12" WV03-4. Its in that price range and they claim its best sub in that price class. Id like to see how it compares with these subs.
I could really hear the difference of the Savard Rap from the others.The bass sounded deeper and more solid.$30 more over others is worth it for sound quality in this price range.Of course proper enclosures for each might change things up in sound quality.
Yeah the stupid ratchet strap killed the K9 in that test but it had to be done because that heavy sucka was tryna pull the enclosure down under its weight lol. The Rap really is a great sounding sub tho

I almost bought a couple of those Rockville’s until I saw people smoking them and then I saw the Sundown test on the EV’s and I purchased those. Skar seems like they should be in the hunt too.
Got a few ideas to even the field and make to tests more accurate. Start with a box that is too large for all subs. Then add wood to the inside with double sided tape until you get the "optimum" volume for the sub. That way you can see how each sub performs in the "right" enclosure. Then do some testing of each sub at 20 Hz, 25 Hz, 30Hz, 35Hz, 40Hz, 45Hz, etc with the meter at a fixed point.
Everyones been giving me shit about the K9s but honestly I do like mine, I get that you might not be able to put full power but you do get that bang for your buck.
One of the best cheap subs used to be the pioneer ts-w3003d4, you couldve got 2 of them for less than $150, I paid $70 for mine on amazon and it slammed for a $70 sub! They are mostly sold out now, skar sdr was close to it but I feel like the pioneer had better build quality than the sdr, the rockford p3 used to be like $125 on amazon too
I had pair of those in a sealed box on a Soundqubed 1200.1. They slammed for what they were. I got videos on my channel. Havent made any videos of any of my progress or my new systems throughout the years though, soon

All great choices, but would like to see the Skar SDR in this.. the Rockville subs are decent subs they just need to be upfront and truthful bout the ratings, hence a lawsuit. I've owned few equipment from Rockville, not bad. Over all great testing and extremely helpful for us, the consumer. Many blessings
I ordered one of the Rockville W12K9D2 to try based on this video and their 90 free return policy. It came in Saturday, I put it in Saturday night and have to agree with what HiFiVega says in this video. This sub sounds great and is extremely loud. I have a box of 2 ft³ with a 23.625 in² port that's 24" long. This sub sounds a lot better than the SVD-12 and EVL-12 I've had in the same box. Not expecting this sub to be able to handle the power of my amp (Skar RP-1200.1) I have the gain at about half and use the bass knob from minimum to half way, depending on the music. I wish I had bought the dual 4 ohm version so I could run it at 2 ohms where my amp is rated at 800 watts. If this one fails in the 90 days period I'll likely replace it with a D4 and see how it lasts.
No roasting from here. During the whole K9 debacle all they had to do was point out was the box was all wrong. Your box most likely fits more within the specs better than the other test.
Nice video Vega but I really would have liked a more thorough review on how the subs sounded sq wise and maybe if some were being played to their limits or if some you think would do better on more power. The rockville and sundown are both intriguing to me but I would definitely like to see if they can handle the power over 5 minutes at 600rms which I have on tap.

I wish you would try this test with an ampere audio entry level 12”. They get loud on low power, the bass is deeper than most subs can go in less airspace, they actually sound really nice and I feel like they would take a beating for sure. Beefy subs !
Wayne Slain I had some credit at d4s and figured wth and bought one of their cheap 2.0 8s and was very impressed. Their amps- god level and rated at 12.8v not your normal 14.4 ...not much competition to them BUT they aren’t budget HOWEVER there again for what you get one could say they are. Not to mention they can run up to like 18v I think? The subs are on par with the amps in my opinion can’t be beat.
Yo it all depends on the box. Your lowered power subs will be louder than the higher powered subs. Plus some subs create massive dB on super large boxes they could burn out of ran for a long time but the dbs will be there. I would like to see you build a box tuned to 25hz and do the exact same test and I bet $ you will be shocked on which subs will do the best
Too bad the Pioneer TS-3003D4 isn't made any longer, I think it would have dominated this test. I paid $83 a piece for mine and have been pushing them with a CAB 1600.1 since the amp was released, they truly are the best budget sub.

go with Savard. aesthetics are cool and all but the performance will still be similar* to that of whatever size driver your running. aesthetics do not change that only $

If you keep the RMS to 500 watts, the Rockville should be good, I think they over-speced the build by a little bit. I honestly like the Savard of all of them, it's a nice return of an old school company
I agree with your conclusions. Good video slot of work making this for sure. I do think the Alpine S-W12D4 will be louder and cooler coil then Rockville even in smaller enclosure. I have similar meter and I am louder with cx 600.1 and a laughable box with two different length and diameter home made aero ports and my sub I put a dust cap on from a home sub and had to paint with rubber like coating because the Kevlar was removed and just paper let when I got this alpine from a buddy. He left it outside for months in rain with open exposed pole too lol! Subs tough as nails!

Not looking for a shallow mount sub but would like the loudest and best sounding sub in an under 6-inch mount depth for Truck under seat sub boxes. Most of these will not fit. Probably have to go with 12-inch shallow mount or a 10-inch sub.

I just picked up Soundstream Bass Extreme 12" subs for $53 each ($70 on ebay now) and there exactly like 3 of the subs shown. I also would add that Pioneer makes a great 12" subwoofer in this Price point and can handle power and is very loud. I have a 10 pioneer in a sealed box with a punch 200m and it kicks in my Durango.
See my comment above about the Pioneer TS-3003D4, it was the best budget sub and got no love so pioneer discontinued it and only makes lower quality now. The new subs don't compare, but they are good.
I'm thinking about buying a K6 that is "CEA rated" for 500 watts and powering it at 250-300 watts. Do you know anything about them? How do they compare to K9s?
Who runs their system at max power all day long anyways. I normally kick AM talk radio, Rush Limbaugh cleared his throat once when I had the volume up and it blew my ears out. 1000 watt throat clearing.
Not going to roast simply because I've actually considered these subs but curious if they would handle being powered by 1200 at 1 ohm. I currently power to 8 in Vegas with this power an wow they get loud for 8 in. That being said they are definitely on the edge of no longer being functional at that load. If like to see the 5 minute test on this rockville!

So I've installed a K9 15" in one of my relatives vehicles. It was a 2014 Ford Focus hatch. I was discussing all the drama involved with that brand with him throughout the install. He's not really into audio and got it on a trade, so he didn't know about any of it. Well let's just say I walked away a believer. That thing is every bit as loud as my own build 😬 bass wise
@BASSNSANE I ran it on of a LC2i, tapped into the factory wiring harness. Then fed that to a rockville rxd-m3. Sky high 4 gauge OFC amp kit. The sub is a dual 4 ohm and it's wired at 2 ohm. Actual clamped power? No idea. I'd guess about 900 watts rms average on music with impedance rise and voltage drop. He doesnt have any equipment besides what's listed, the rest is factory.

The enclosure did fit within manufacturers recommended specs except for the Sundown
Port size and tuning would also change as box does so that wouldn't work either

I haven’t tried any of their products but the svr is right in the middle of this price range and probably a good competitor for the k9

that amp works at .5 ohms as well mine have been running for almost a year no problem

Not looking for a shallow mount sub but would like the loudest and best sounding sub in an under 6-inch mount depth for Truck under seat sub boxes. Most of these will not fit. Probably have to go with 12-inch shallow mount or a 10-inch sub.

Love your videos but please do a review on WLLDSE-HCY 12s or WLLDSE-CVL 15s best budget sub hands down!!! I pushed mine for over a year and half! And still sold them for full price barely even broke in

I just picked up Soundstream Bass Extreme 12" subs for $53 each ($70 on ebay now) and there exactly like 3 of the subs shown. I also would add that Pioneer makes a great 12" subwoofer in this Price point and can handle power and is very loud. I have a 10 pioneer in a sealed box with a punch 200m and it kicks in my Durango.
See my comment above about the Pioneer TS-3003D4, it was the best budget sub and got no love so pioneer discontinued it and only makes lower quality now. The new subs don't compare, but they are good.

I'm thinking about buying a K6 that is "CEA rated" for 500 watts and powering it at 250-300 watts. Do you know anything about them? How do they compare to K9s?
I don’t have personal experience with the K6, but I’ve heard they’re stout and actually handle rated power.
Who runs their system at max power all day long anyways. I normally kick AM talk radio, Rush Limbaugh cleared his throat once when I had the volume up and it blew my ears out. 1000 watt throat clearing.

Not going to roast simply because I've actually considered these subs but curious if they would handle being powered by 1200 at 1 ohm. I currently power to 8 in Vegas with this power an wow they get loud for 8 in. That being said they are definitely on the edge of no longer being functional at that load. If like to see the 5 minute test on this rockville!

At least you said the K9 wasn’t rated for the fake CEA rating Rockville uses. I’d still take the SD all day long just for the cooling engineering.
Honest ratings would go a long way for sure! I haven’t gotten a SD sub I was unhappy with yet.

I was wondering if any of those handheld inexpensive spl meters were any good and if they were worth buying for people boomin on a budget. If Vega is using them maybe they are, even if they aren't that accurate I guess they would be useful to compare stuff relatively, right?

So I've installed a K9 15" in one of my relatives vehicles. It was a 2014 Ford Focus hatch. I was discussing all the drama involved with that brand with him throughout the install. He's not really into audio and got it on a trade, so he didn't know about any of it. Well let's just say I walked away a believer. That thing is every bit as loud as my own build 😬 bass wise

@BASSNSANE I ran it on of a LC2i, tapped into the factory wiring harness. Then fed that to a rockville rxd-m3. Sky high 4 gauge OFC amp kit. The sub is a dual 4 ohm and it's wired at 2 ohm. Actual clamped power? No idea. I'd guess about 900 watts rms average on music with impedance rise and voltage drop. He doesnt have any equipment besides what's listed, the rest is factory.
@BASSNSANE Yessir, I was surprised af when it was all said and done. I was so ready for him to be disappointed, and I prepared him for it. Kinda worked out for the best, because when it came to life we were both shocked. I have a video he sent me off it, where do you want me to send it?

The only issue I have with this test and you brought it up yourself is the fact that not all of those speakers work well in that airspace so to me it's not a fair test
