She's not a singer, she' a Vocalist. The difference is, a singer does acrobatics with their voice, a vocalist pulls the emotion and superglues it to the words, the message being deep within you before you know it.
You should know, Haley's a rocker, born of a Chicago Blues guitarist & a power vocalist who fashioned herself after Grace Slick & Ann Wilson, who've been in a band together for over 40 years. The family are true blue Beatles fans who attend the annual Beatlesfest in Chicago. Even though it's been told Haley's Dad used to do call & response scatting w/ Haley when she was a baby, before she could speak, Haley didn't really fall into Jazz until she joined her High School Jazz band as their first Jazz singer. She eventually took them to perform the Umbria Jazz festival in Europe. That 'growl' in her voice is an extension of her natural speaking voice, she said she used to be a tomboy as a kid, mimicking South Park's Eric Cartman. She even tried out as a voice in the Charlie Brown movie. That recording eventually was listened to by Vince Vaughn, Bill Burr and the Simpson's Mike Price which lead her being cast as the voice of the younger Bill Burr in their Netflix Adult animation "F is For Family". Haley sings Zeppelin, Sublime, Pink Floyd, Hendrix and of course the Beatles. Yes, she is most known for her Jazz, but you can hear the rock influences in her jazz interpretation of songs, like this one. Glad you enjoyed Haley, my channel has 12 years+ of live Haley performances if you're interested. Haley's recent video on her channel of "I Put a Spell On You" is my video w/ Haley's sound board audio on it, Haley performing "Light My Fire" w/ the Door's Robby Krieger at the Troubadour on Haley's channel is also one my videos. Cheers
This was the very first song of Haley's I listened to a number of years ago. I fell in love with her in a heart beat. I can't listen to this young lady sing enough. She is amazing. I wish her every succes she can dream of.
I love her singing with her dad's accompaniment at Chess Recording Studio "Can't find my way home". One of my faves of Haley's although I have many faves.
There’s a reason why this is Postmodern Jukebox number one video. Haley’s masterful performance. All of PMJ’s videos are recorded live, in one continuous pass, no editing and no autotune. Thank for this infectious reaction.
The genuine JOY you are getting from listening to this rendition is WHY. I. AM. HERE! As an amateur, mediocre singer, I learn so much from listening to greats do their thing.
Tired from touring a bit, she told Scott (who wanted her to do this AFTER All About That Bass) that she'd do ONE take. If it was not good, she'd redo it on the next day(s) off. Reviewing it, she did NOT like it and wanted to try again later. Scott said (to his credit), "No way- this is perfect!" 8 yrs and millions of views later, yeah, incredible.
This recording was done in one take on a day where she was feeling under the weather. After sitting in the front row of her concert last year, I was just as impressed with her live performance. (local girl does good)
Check out Haley and Morgan James doing a cover of Dear Prudence. Just those two and an acoustic guitar chilling on the couch. Beautifull. Also check out Morgan and PMJ doing Dream On.
This is my all time favorite cover and as far as Haley is concerned and her rendition, this is not a cover this is her song. I’ve watched her since she appeared on the talent show. She should have won, she was fabulous. But that’s in the past. I’ve watched numerous reactions to her version of this song and by far yours is the Best. Kudos to you for your delicious reaction and commentary. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Yes 🙌🏽 Hailey Reinhart is one of the Best Solo Female Singers in the US. I’m very picky and I’ve been exposed to everything…my mom and dad were in a Rock Band in the 60’s. My grandparents lived next door to a Black Church that we attended in Wednesdays and I’m Indigenous Native American so I was was raised on Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw. 🤷🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️🥰 We attended Traditional Festivals. My dad who was an instrumentalist took me to Woodstock when I was four years to see Carlos Santana. I’ve heard Amazing Artists. Hailey Reinhart is THAT Singer. Thank you dear Arab Man for reacting to Hailey Reinhart…please review her singing with Morgan James covering a Beatle Song “Dear Prudence”.
The key change into the belting always gets me! First time I listened to this, that key change threw me for a loop! Thought, flat? She's going flat after all that...and then the instrumentation resolves the chord and bam! Eargasm! Whole arrangement is pure magic!
I love that this video is in black and white. Her voice takes me immediately to a bar scene in an old detective movie from the 40's and she is the lovely lady crooner. Just an amazing voice.
FREAKING INCREDIBLE!!!!! ONLY DISCOVERED HER BC OF ANGELIONA JORDON ...LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT COVER BY AJ ,,,LOVE YOUR REACTION.. HALEY IS AMAZING .. SHE ROCKKS HARD BABY !!!
Gotta hear Morgan James now on PMJ singing Dream On. Her list goes on and on! And, Morgan James with Haley Reinhart singing “Dear Prudence” by the Beatles, which is just incredible vocals and harmonies playing to an acoustic guitar sitting on a couch at home!
I guess you go by Boudy? Anyway, just an a quick note that Morgan James never uses any kind of autotune on any of her music! She also does another song on PMJ with Haley and another gal called “All About the Bass”! It’s really a great jazzy song!
She not only sings, she ACTS out the story. And the true test of her voice is watching you trying to press your headphones into your brain so you can hear every nuance of her voice.
Scott could write an arrangement for her to read the phone book to and I'd listen to it all day. As she was about to hit the little scat part, I was almost screaming "Don't pause! Don't pause!" at the screen lol. Look around the 10:50ish part of your vid... as she hits the little high run the bass player looks over to the booth with almost a little shock. Great reaction!
I just saw her live in November and she was just as amazing. She changes it up live and its great. I love everything about her. Check out Seven Nation Army Next!!
I love your reactions, Boudi! I just remembered seeing a short where you talked about Jeff Goldblum. I went and watched that reaction, then came to this one. I love her style of singing and her voice is beautiful. I almost never watch reactions to anyone other than my favorite bass and acapella group. But the joy on your face is infectious. I'm going to watch your reaction of her singing Seven Nation Army. See ya!
I drove from Miami to Orlando to see her a few months ago and she put on the best vocal performance I’ve ever witnessed in person. Every song was just perfection. She’s so dang incredible, eh? Some of my other favorite covers from her: White Rabbit, I put a spell on you, Black hole sun, can’t find my way home(with her dad). There’s so many more but I won’t go on and on. If you’re going down the rabbit hole, I’m here for it! Great reaction!
I was going to say something similar - I got to see her in person a few weeks ago and I can’t remember having a better time at any other live music event. She’s just phenomenal.
Can you believe she came in THIRD on American Idol? I can't recall what season or who won. I thought Haley was the very best of that season. And everyone who has seen this video LOVES it.
I heard another reactor say "and that is how you do every vocal technique in one song perfectly" 😊 gorgeous performance! Love your reactions to creep! Have you done Voiceplay's cover of Creep? It's great too!
I just saw her in concert a week or so ago. She was magnificent! Such a stage presence! BTW, she performed Creep as an encore, so, if you go, don't leave too early.
I saw her a few weeks ago too. She did Benny and the Jets as her final number and then came back to do Creep as an encore. Benny and the Jets was her final performance on American Idol, so to “end” on that song and come back with Creep was, I thought, a really creative statement.
Haley was under the weather as this was the tour’s day off in Switzerland and she was exhausted, She wanted to do another take but Scott said no need. They shot All about the Bass during that day also. The vids are just their stage show performance filmed with a single camera, that’s why their vids are so tight, they play those songs every night. Saw them during the last Europe tour and Effie Passero? sang it, it’s Scott’s composition and every artist he has sing it on tour does it different, Effie just nailed it ❤️
Haley is one of America's best kept secrets, criminally under rated, same goes for Morgan James (one of her co-singers at that time in PMJ). Now no worries, both do pretty well in their own fields of music, but neither will chart the top 40 any time soon, they are no pop starlets, they are more.. let's say.. traditional singers. A thing to know about this performance is that Haley was not feeling too well, i believe she was coming down with the flu or a heavy cold or something, and it was after returning from a gig. So yeah, she's rather special, has a voice you can listen to for hours and hours on end, and as a performer, she truly tells and sells the stories she sings about, she's amazing. And as i mentioned the name Morgan James, you need to check her out as well because you'll love her as much as you love Haley. A good introduction song to her is one that also has Haley, and.. the Daughter of Telly Savalas (famous 70's/80's actor) who also knows how to sing a tune or two ;) That song would be "All about that bass - European tour version", it's a fun song and a great showcase for PMJ humor and talent. From there on.. plenty of options in PMJ land, to react to ;) Thnx for the react my Arab friend, and for the previous one with Jeff Goldblum as well (i love that performance, so playful).
Dude, you are the first reactor I've seen that caught the a capella key change. So, so tough to pull off. The other part was in the middle when she belted for FIVE AND A HALF measures without a breath. Wow. One of my favorite vocal performances of all time.
Another favorite with her is "Mad World - Vintage Vaudeville - Style Cover ft. Puddles Pity Party & Haley Reinhart" with PMJ. Puddles is his own unique trip! The 2 of them together harmonizing, especially the end section is exquisite. She really slow burns & vamps on "Seven Nation Army" also.
OMG Boudi, you've got to watch Haley & PMJ's rendition of "Don’t Speak" - by No Doubt & Gwen Stefani. Scott Bradley, the composer/pianist/Artistic Director & owner of PMJ changes this song into a big band 60s style cover 🤯. Another amazing PMJ & Haley Reinhart collaboration would be their cover of the White Stripes song "Seven Nation Army" turning this Classic Rock tune into a NOLA Jazz throwback .🔥
I met Haley some years back and actually got to hang out with her & Casey Abrams for a bit of an afternoon. She's super chill, quik to smile and always blows you away when she takes the stage. Some would call her the real life Jessica Rabbit
@@delg1211 What's funny about your wise crack is that I actually DID meet her. Our son studied sax under Paul Carmen, who is a professor of jazz at Idyllwild Arts Academy where Casey also attended. They both appear their yearly for thejazz in the pines festival. As for that tranny, Megan Fox, I'm sure she'd love bending over cucks like yourself. Maybe she did
Definitely top 3! I just LOVE watching the transformation of people watching this. They start with low or no expectations, and then... mere seconds pass before they realize the magic of what is happening, and... they're hooked and everything changes. This performance truly is magical.
Really FINALLY jajajaja... hehe, can't wait, watching the add so you get your full share, and will watch every second till the end, and enjoy it, can't wait to see your face...
I've watched this video over a hundred times and every reaction has been incredibly positive with an exception of a couple of people who didn't get It, but said she was a good singer. And may I say I think you are an amazing reactionist.
This was a great review and you kind of expressed what I felt when I first saw Haley Reinhart, which was her doing this cover. I’d never listened to the original before so had nothing to compare it to. But as you say, she turned this into her own song. She’s remarkable, and she’s also admirable. A hardworking woman who deserves all the kudos that go her way. Thanks.
She was one of my favorite contestants on her season of American Idol. But I always thought that she used too much growl in every song. I lost track of her after the show, but it’s good to see that she’s still doing music because there’s no doubt that she’s very talented!
Watching your reaction (my first of yours, btw) I smiled so hard my face hurt by the end. It's supposed to be a sad song, but Haley's talent and performance, and your obvious glee when watching it, is so overwhelming that the sadness just doesn't make it through the joy. Bravo.
Loved your reaction (and thanks for the apology for what you've said about Jeff Goldblum! He's a goofy but solid musician)!! Please do more of PMJ, they are famtastic and their covers with Haley the best ever heard! Ever! ❤❤❤
You nailed it. Haley's key change is the most impressive moment in the song - among so many impressive moments. Haley is my favorite female vocalist, by far...and it's been years now. Thanks for doing it!
Master freakin class!!!!!! Welcome to Haley's world. She is simply one of the best female vocalists alive. This also was the one take wonder, Haley asked if they needed to do it again and Scott Bradlee (piano)(the force behind PMJ) Laughed and said, nope. Haley has "Don't Speak" by No Doubt with PMJ. Her original "I Don't Know how to Love You" (any version, 60's blues/rock official video, soulful live at Chess Records with just her dad on guitar or An Impossible Project Documentary with full orchestra) are AMAZING.
It's inconceivable to me that anyone could ever perform a better rendition of this wonderful song than what we heard here with Haley, including if done by my first and forever love, Angelina.
I've followed her since the beginning of her singer carreer. And I know she is a diamond, perfect ...awsome, lovely.... And funny detale - the eyecolour of hers changes within her mood 😁
Others will give the full background on this, but what is awesome here is that this is a *literal* one-take video. All but 2-3 PMJ vidoes are a single continous shot, but may be the 2nd, or 5th, or 10th attempt. *This* one was, in a nutshell ... Band is in place. Haley comes in. Haley sings the song *ONCE*. Scott calls it a day. Just .... brilliant.
I’m not a musician. But I’ve said from the first time I heard this recording how amazing it is to me that Haley sings the band into/through the key change. It impresses me so much. But I’ve never heard a reactor comment on it. I feel validated! Lol
Man, I love her version of this song. In case you didn't know, she was on season 10 of American Idol, she finished in third place behind Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina. She sang "Bennie and the Jets" for her farewell encore. She was the best out of these 3 finalists. IMO McCreedy won because he sounded a lot like Dave Matthews.
What makes this version of Creep so interesting is two things. It's a fantastic song. But Haley made me see it in another way. The song alternates between first person and third person. She starts in first person with a presentation as someone rather meek, timid even. But her rage builds throughout. Then she goes third person. "She runs, runs runs" telling us what this other person is doing. Only to come back to acceptance of "I'm a Creep". Did you notice her arms as she sang "She runs, runs"? They were flailing like you might seem to run in a dream. Her body interpretations of each line lifts the impact. Whether "I want a perfect body" with her hands on her hips or reaching up to the sky "I want a perfect soul". That's Haley. The song tells a story and the way Haley interprets it brings it to life. It's perfect. She's perfect for this song. btw I've got 3rd row tickets to see her on Feb 13, 2024. Laters........
I'm very glad and thankful to say that there are two of my best female vocalist of all time Haley Reinhart and Angelina Jordan I can listen to the both of them every day thank you very much God bless aloha
When I recommended the Jeff bit with Haley I never saw the high demand for "Creep" coming, who am I kidding, of course I did. But I had to give you a little appetizer before the main course. bon appétit mon ami Rb
Watching some one react to this gorgeous cover that is a huge fan of this song was fantastic to see. Seeing the smile on your face, eyes closed and headphones pressed, and finally the face smooshing, just wow, expressed what you were feeling before you even discussed why is affected you the way it did. Bravo. Also appreciate the editorial inserts translating the Arabic… or not (lol "bad words").
I really like reactions, you show emotions, respect and true comments based on your own knowledge. I don’t understand how anyone can watch and listen to this without falling in love with her. I hope you will react more to Haley, both with PMJ (“seven nation army”, all about that bass”) but also as solo artist (“don’t know how to low you”, “lay it down” and jazz videos together with Casey Abrams - she is just great, better than most I ever heard.
No, you definitely haven't seen this before, can't fake it like that... :) Haley imo is one of the most unique, both technically and stylistically perfect vocalists of our days, those freaking American guys don't know whom they have in her, they should shit her with Grammys and all that stuff, but the media are ignoring her as she's not signed to a label. Anyway she is confident that quality will prevail, and she can stay true to herself and go her way... a true ARTist, I adore her! Peace and love from Bavaria!
Thanks for your reaction. Heley's' version was absolutely my favorite until VoicePlay did theirs a few months ago.....then I fell in love with that one. Now, listening to her again, I'm just so torn. Both are spectacular versions. I may be incapable of choosing between.
She's not a singer, she' a Vocalist. The difference is, a singer does acrobatics with their voice, a vocalist pulls the emotion and superglues it to the words, the message being deep within you before you know it.
She has got "IT" whatever "IT" is in bucket loads. I have watched her quite a few times and she is so very special. ❤

Amen
She would be called a Torch Singer, if she was singing in the 30's and 40's. She brings that emotion out in the song and in audience.
I heard she did this in one take?
This is exactly the style of singer I wanted to be growing up...

Thanks.
So many colors in her singing
HOLY SH....T!!!!! I love her and you rocked this one, too!!! Thank you!
One of the best breakdowns I've heard. Well done Sir.
Divina Haley. More PMJ! She is fenomenal artist ❤❤❤ Thank you from Italy ❤
She was one of my favorite contestants on her season of American Idol. But I always thought that she used too much growl in every song. I lost track of her after the show, but it’s good to see that she’s still doing music because there’s no doubt that she’s very talented!
She is THE SINGER
Watching your reaction (my first of yours, btw) I smiled so hard my face hurt by the end. It's supposed to be a sad song, but Haley's talent and performance, and your obvious glee when watching it, is so overwhelming that the sadness just doesn't make it through the joy. Bravo.
I just found your channel and loved your reaction. SUBSCRIBED!!!
And funny detale - the eyecolour of hers changes within her mood 😁
listen to them do All About That Bass....Dont Speak.....Black Hole Sun!!!!!!
Was scrolling thru to make sure "Black Hole Sun" was mentioned
Others will give the full background on this, but what is awesome here is that this is a *literal* one-take video.
All but 2-3 PMJ vidoes are a single continous shot, but may be the 2nd, or 5th, or 10th attempt.
*This* one was, in a nutshell ... Band is in place. Haley comes in. Haley sings the song *ONCE*. Scott calls it a day.
Just .... brilliant.
and she was sick that day
I’m not a musician.
Seven Nation Army is another worth checking out too.
Hailey and PMJ didn't COVER this, they took ownership of it for 4+ minutes and presented it perfectly... Then they released it back into the wild.
The word you were looking for was "soul." PMJ put a level of soul into this song at a magnitude that the original performers couldn't hope to match.
Wonderful reaction, thank you for the commentary and explanations.
Probably my favorite reaction to my favorite singer.
I'm very glad and thankful to say that there are two of my best female vocalist of all time Haley Reinhart and Angelina Jordan I can listen to the both of them every day thank you very much God bless aloha
I think most artists who creates an original fears Haley doing a cover as it will most definitely replace their original as the song to emulate.
I still think she should have won her season of American Idol! She is SO talented!
She owns this song. You forget the original version which puts me in a coma
Hailey's amazing. Scott Bradlee's arrangement is just as amazing .
PMJ has a lot of fantastic productions. This is one of the best. Just amazing.
She has some really great music outside of PMJ. She's so talented, her voice, her look, her entire style is just gorgeous. 💜
Haley Reinhart is JESSICA RABBIT, reincarnated. This is, IMO, the Best Cover of this song. EVER!
I loved your reaction of this!
Haley owns this song the way Johnny Cash owns Hurt
When I recommended the Jeff bit with Haley I never saw the high demand for "Creep" coming, who am I kidding, of course I did. But I had to give you a little appetizer before the main course. bon appétit mon ami Rb
Hailey has also done a cover of Don't Speak, and Seven Nation Army. Both of which i highly recommend.
Check out the sassiest version of Seven Nation Army you ever heard from her and PMJ. I know the song holds a special place in your heart.
I've watched this dozens of times. Haley still takes my breath away, brings tears to my eyes and makes my pants too tight all at the same time.
Thanks so much for your reaction! It's interesting to me how many people (myself included) love and relate to this song!
8:14 Confirmation you're in love 😍 (Who wouldn't be!!!?) - I never even noticed she lead the band until you pointed it out - amazing!
Peace and love from Bavaria!
next up, 7 nation army, ft Haley Reinhart PMJ
Thanks for your reaction. Heley's' version was absolutely my favorite until VoicePlay did theirs a few months ago.....then I fell in love with that one. Now, listening to her again, I'm just so torn. Both are spectacular versions. I may be incapable of choosing between.
Check out Morgan James version of Dream On
The only version of this song I want to listen to
