I described my car and the following vehicle and the guy got pulled over. I then turned around into the police station and gave my statement on the incident. Best is NOT to react to someone who cuts you off or is a road rager. They will in 99% of the cases blow up and if you don't respond it'll take the wind out of their sails. If you flip them off or engage into the road rage battle, it can easily turn very bad. It's just not worth it. Don't get dragged into some idiot's anger and bad day.

He tried opening the passenger side door so I blew the horn to get witnesses and got out with my weapon drawn. My car is short so i coukd shoot over the vehicle if needed but I moved around the front so if i had to shoot, i had empty cars beyond the target. He ended up running away when he saw my weapon leaving his truck running blocking traffic. He ended up getting fined and arrested for that incident.

      I had a similar situation happen to me and my now ex-wife. black gang members surrounded my car as we were coming home from dinner one night. The lead big mouth was swinging around a baseball bat. I had no intention on waiting to see how much the cookies were. I stepped out of the vehicle with pistol in hand, using the door as a shield, and quickly "addressed" the threat. Afraid of loud noises, they all ran away never to be seen by me again. This happened in Smyrna, GA.

    I was in a similar situation about a year ago. I was at the grocery store at about 930pm because I like to avoid people as much as possible. A guy with a strong alcohol smell on his breath behind me in the checkout line started chatting with me. While I was on my way out, he followed me continuing to "chat". Finally he asked me for some extra change. I said I didn't have any which was true. All I had was my debit card. I stopped at the customer service counter hoping he would leave which he did. I left and noticed he was out in the parking lot. I loaded my groceries and left. He started following me so I took a long detour not going near my house and he followed me all around town. I finally pulled into the Police/Sheriff's Department and he didn't follow me there. I took another detour home to see if he was still following me. He wasn't. Scary stuff. I live in a very rural area with almost non existent violent crime rates but you never know. I carry almost 100% of the time and have for years. Glad I had it but didn't need it.

      *The beauty of CCW is often that it gives you the courage not to panic, and the confidence to both assess the situation and choose options that might defuse tension.*
      *Case in point: A while back I went outside late at night to get my mail, which is down the street. As I got it, I noticed a GIANT pit bull with a head the size of a milk crate, who had stopped in his tracks and was staring me down. I had NO idea where he was from (he was NOT a neighborhood dog- and he was very definitely a ‘HE’- it was obvious from all that distance away), and I could see that he was in an offensive stance.*
      *I’m not usually afraid of dogs at ALL- not even intimidated- but this dog was ‘tinkle-a-little-in-your-shorts’ kind of intimidating. He was brutally strong- I could see his musculature in the streetlight quite clearly- and I knew that I would never be able to run to my door in time to avoid being attacked, if I had panicked.*
      *Knowing I had my CCW was indescribably helpful, because just then he made a menacing growl and started in my direction. I knew that running would trigger his attack instinct, and that I would never survive an attack by that beast. So, I did what I learned to do as a kid on my paper route- I summoned up all the “alpha-male” friendly-but-authoritative voice I had, and yelled, “C’mere, boy!... Come on!,” and whistled to him. He stopped in his tracks, ducked his head a little, as if he was thinking, “Wait... this isn’t my owner... is it?” I whistled again, patted my thigh, and called again. “Here boy! C’mere, buddy!... Good boy!” Again he hesitated, but my tone of voice was a “you’re not in trouble” tone, so he started toward me again...*
      *But this time, instead of the purposeful, direct path he started taking toward me when he first behaved aggressively, now he was kind of pad-padding toward me like just a regular dog. I continued calling him like he was my best buddy, and as he arrived I put the back of my (non-shooting) hand out to him, and looked away. (This is a sign of non-aggression- it invites the dog to sniff your hand, without worrying him that you’re going to grab at his throat, and looking away is a sign of trust, and of lack of fear).*
      *On the other hand, watching him intensely or staring him down as he approaches signals hostility, and can signal the dog to attack).*
      *He walked right up to me, sniffed my hand, then looked away himself for a second, which is a dog’s way of saying, “OK, I’m cool as long as you don’t do anything sudden,” so I kept up with the soothing “good boy!” tone of voice, and reached to rub his massive head, which, it turned out- was solid muscle. I couldn’t believe the size of the muscles in this dog’s jaws and head, his chest and shoulders. Truly intimidating.*
      *I petted him, only daring to squat down about halfway- visited for a minute, then started back to my house, moving easily and making no sudden moves.*
      *When I got to my front door, I stopped, gave him a couple of good pats on the head and shoulder rubs, then stepped inside and shut the door with a big sigh of relief. I went to the refrigerator and grabbed a couple of leftover grilled hot dogs, and went back to see if he was still there. He wasn’t, but I still yelled, “C’ mere, boy!”, and tossed them out onto the front walkway- mainly as a sort of ‘sacrifice’ to the Lord for not becoming this dog’s midnight snack.*
      *I have NO idea how I would have responded if I hadn’t had the peace of mind that- if I needed to- I could have ended the dog at any moment... Just one more in the millions of incidents a year where a CCW makes the difference between a peaceful interaction, or who knows??...*

It's sad but true that in today's world we need to err on the side of caution. (We were over $10K apart on value of the car, no sale.) Smart move, I worked for a special events ATM service where we'd have to transport large amounts of cash very discretely (meaning no armored cars pulling into large concerts/potentially unruly crowds). When doing that, all bets were off on which vehicles or how many guys were carrying or which route we'd take. While most of us want to be the Good Samaritan, you can never be too cautious for the setup/sting... whether a fake accident or single woman trying to change a flat tire. Be Safe!

I can keep control at any speeds but I would never want to put others in harms way. I've moved to Texas and now I'm looking for a track or some place I can practice my driving skills and do the stupid stunts in an environment for it. The Cop’s job is to investigate crime and arrest suspects and that’s it. There are way too many people out there for everyone to have their own personal cop. So sure, drive to the police station if you feel you must, but don’t think for a moment they’re going to protect you. That’s a fallacy. It’s YOUR job to protect You and nobody else’s. • @TrizerFlame
      @TrizerFlame 3 роки тому +3

      A motorcycle is a vehicle, personal property, no different then a convertible or a truck. On one hand you have flexibility and better options of escape but your more defenceless and vulnerable. In an escalating situation, imminent threat won’t be black and white, because you’re more vulnerable (and on an item easy to steal) you may have to react quicker or even abandon your vehicle for protection. Best judgement is to stay alive without anyone being harm, and if someone is going to be harm then last resort is make sure you can calmly give your statement to your attorney and the police. Also a dashcam would be a great investment-I try not to drive without one for my protection and the protection of others.

    • @WalterPidgeonsForge
      @WalterPidgeonsForge 3 роки тому +4

      Typically, a motorcycle is not considered to be a part of Castle Doctrine laws. This is because there cannot be a “threshold”that is crossed.. Proximity is not the same indicator of intent, just like shooting someone through a closed door will not make a case that you were responding properly.
      I have been in this situation numerous times after some perceived slight while riding. Maybe bypassing traffic, splitting lanes in stopped traffic, going around an accident .. or mostly just being in the wrong place somehow.
      All car/truck/etc. drivers KNOW that you are vulnerable on a bike.. they have ZERO qualms about bumping you from behind, cutting you off at speed, brake checking you.. I had a woman telling her children that I was subhuman and they should throw garbage and drinks at me from the passenger side windows of her Escalade.. 3 kids trying to hit you with juice boxes, snack bags and goldfish crackers will change your mind about human nature. Thank you to the CT. State Trooper who witnessed this and pushed me to press assault charges all those years ago when that happened.
      Best case scenario is to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to get away from the situation unharmed.. learn to jump curbs, use your higher performance to leave( but be smart about it). It is much harder to make a call from a bike without a Bluetooth system in your helmet.. Get one and use it.. and a GoPro with a linked rear camera will do wonders in court to help you prove your point.

The point is this includes before lawer and after 911 call. EVEN the 911 call details you give can be inadmissible simply because they are pert of the call. Not sure why, but this is paraphrase from attorney. However the person who calls first is usually seen as victim. So personally im going to call, say ive been attacked. Pro Tip: When driving leave enough room to turn out of a stopped lane of traffic by leaving turning space between you and the car in front of you. For most vehicles, if you can see where their rear tires are making contact with the roadway then you will have enough room to escape that lane of traffic. That may be all you need to escape by making a u-turn or crossing a divider/sidewalk/etc.
    Navigate and communicate. Pay attention to where you are headed and plan ahead. Lead them to a nearby police or fire station, rather than down a one-way residential street where you can be trapped with no help. That's the navigate part, the communicating part is calling 911 and keeping them informed of where you're headed, what your plan is, what the other driver is doing. Keep them on the phone but remember, navigate first, communicate second. Stay focused on not getting trapped and heading to safety.

    Make sure you do not have that gun out when the police get on scene. And they will quite possibly get on scene before you are aware of it…so get to a position of safety, which includes safety from officers coming to the scene. Stay on the phone with dispatch and describe what’s happening until officers tell you to hang up. In short and in order:
    1. Survive the criminal
    2. Survive the police
    3. Survive the justice system

    Let me give you a tip on cars following you. When you see a car following you, slow down 20%. If he slows down, slow 20% again. If he slows down slow down so a crawl. He is then forced to overtake and leave the scene since he knows you know he is following. If he overtakes, be prepared to reverse away from him if he cuts you off and stops. If he comes for you on foot with an obvious weapon, use the car as a battering ram.

    • @egarcia1360
      @egarcia1360 2 роки тому +1

      I'm not so sure slowing down is a great strategy. Maybe try it once to incentivize the other driver to pass, but if he slows down to match me after that, I wouldn't want to do it again. Going at a snail's pace or stopping entirely doesn't necessarily force him to pass; it could also give him an opportunity to cut you off and block you so he can try to hurt you. I'd much rather make every attempt to just get away, going as fast and taking as twisty a route as necessary to lose him.
      I had a guy follow me once on my way back from lunch because he was annoyed that I turned onto the street in front of him (even though he had to yield lol), and I'd be damned if I was going to slow down or stop to entertain him. It only took a few turns over the course of about a minute for him to leave me alone.

    Every single road rage incident where someone used their gun in “self defense” in our county was sentenced to prison or plead guilty between 2004-2017. I think it was a total of 21 people in those years span that used a firearm somehow and in some way. We are a staunch conservative area and our DA is quite conservative as well. In all of these instances not one person could articulate deadly force by any means which the majority of people who use a gun in self defense cannot do that anyways. I can grab 50 gun owners in my region of Texas and ask all of them to tell what A) Chapter 9 of the Texas penal code is, and B) When can you use deadly force? Very VERY few people can answer it correctly outside of being in imminent danger. The public do not understand you MUST ARTICULATE that deadly force. You cannot just kill “just because”. They recklessly or knowingly placed themselves in the situation to allow the incident to escalate instead of driving away or calling 911. People are extremely misunderstood about stand your ground laws.

    First, keep your head in the game. Throw pride out the window. In order to minimize legal OR physical danger to yourself, you should make every effort to break off contact and go your own way. If you inadvertently get trapped with no other option, and you at least made attempts to end or de-escalate the scenario, a use of force should be more easily defended in court. There are no do-overs, so just know that every altercation could lead to a life changing event. You don't have to come to every fight just because you're invited.

    What you should do is either drive directly to the police station, if you know where it is. Or drive to some other place where there are people, hopefully people who know you but it not then just choose a place where there are a lot of other people. Front of large store or anywhere else that a large number of people congregate or if you see or know where there is a police officer. If you do this, you won't get stuck on a dead end street having to face off with a possible assailant.

    I would recommend taking pictures of the scene before calling police to ensure that there was a knife or weapon within the distance that you have proof of. Spend a couple of minutes sending those pictures to lawyer or family where they can find them. They may come in handy in court where all of a sudden vital evidence is lacking from the police.

    I would be concerned about hearing protection. Firing any gun inside a car, window rolled down, would cause hearing injury, especially for any kids in the car. I would keep driving, preferably to a Police car or station. Any busy public parking lot at a grocery store would provide a lot of witnesses as well as store security.

      Timothy, we recommend in this situation to escape any way possible. You should only be using deadly force if you are in fear of great bodily harm or death and you have no way of escaping the situation. If it absolutely came down to it and you need to use your firearm, your life would be worth more then your hearing.

    Avoidance is key, avoidance is key, avoidance is key! Just yesterday, I was followed home from work by someone. I noticed that the car was doing everything they could to keep up with me and I have a bad habit of not using my turn signal on several of the turns I make. Whenever I would take an exit, without warning them with my turn signal, they quickly veered to follow. It was weird. After they did this three times, I realized that they were following me so I purposefully made it look like I was going to turn left at a light, then at the last moment I went right. They changed lanes to follow me and must have realized I was on to them because they stopped at the light and stayed there even though there were no cars. I lost sight of them, but I went ahead and drove around for a bit to make sure I didn't lead them to my house. Not sure what it was about, but I will never lead anyone home if I can avoid it.

    Many years ago (before cell phones were common) I had a young man get pissed at me in traffic and start following me. I did the last thing he expected: I stopped. The young gentleman (18-22, 6'2"ish) did his best move he had seen in some old cop show and pulled his car at a 45 degree angle in front of mine and bailed out to approach me. As he did, he yelled 'I'm gonna kick your ass.' At that point I simply rolled down the window of my Explorer and displayed (thumb and forefinger holding between the backstrap and the front of the trigger guard) a stainless steel .45 and said 'No your not, son, get back in your car.' The macho, would-be ass-kicker, at that point literally squealed like a little girl 'I'm gonna call the cops' as he ran back for his car and took off. End of story. Things I did wrong: 1. Did not get his license plate number (best as I recall) and 2. Did not immediately (or ever) call the cops and start a report. Nothing ever came of it.
