    I have got the Sony A7ii body only for 2 months now and I am using Canon FD lenses, Yashica Old film lenses with adapter and My new Canon FE lenses With adapter. It is lots of fun. At first, I was not into using manual focus and manual aperture but I learned with this camera and focus peaking, that is half of the fun. Once you produce amazing photos with a $10 lens from the 1970's, you will be hooked.

    I started with adapted old Nikon and Canon FD lenses but today in 2024 after 11 years on the A7 I use Sony Zeiss lenses only. I am a Zeiss lens fan, and only Sony makes cameras for Zeiss lenses.

    Do you still have VR when you're using the adapter? I am stuck between getting the A7 or the D610. I, too, have a lot of Nikon glass, some of my longer focal lengths have VR and they're kind of a pain to shoot without the VR, so losing that technology would be a huge downer for the A7.

    You should still make hx300 vids! they are really helpful. And the hx300 has a lot of functions on it that are hard to find. Maybe do some more of those?

      Hey Chad - don't worry, we have many many more videos planned for the HX300 Expert series! The biggest challenge is finding the time to produce them. Going to try to get one up this weekend, actually.

    Amazing review!!! thank you!!! I have few questions:
    1. using the adaptor do you lose some of the pixel ?
    2. if the nikon lens is a 50mm with the adaptor on is it the lens a 50mm still?

    my apsc a5100 has less noise in video than my A7. Wonder if Im doing something wrong?

    • @miklosnemeth8566
      @miklosnemeth8566 4 місяці тому +1

      Yes. The A7 takes exactly 1 stop less noise. But the A5100 has better autofocus and xavcs video file format.

    • @TheyCallMeJesse
      @TheyCallMeJesse 4 місяці тому

      @@miklosnemeth8566 Im not sure I understand your comment, all I know is the a5100 used to kick the A7's butt in low light.

    Personally i LOVE the fact that you can charge the battery while it's in the camera!
    It means i can use my portable batterychargers (Powerbank etc.) on my camera as well. I can even charge the battery while it's in my camerabag.
    So yeah, i find it a BIG bonus, not a negative..

      The USB charging is handy while traveling. I purchased a power adapter that provides continuous power... Money well spent.

    Hi, I've been trying to find out if I can use my Nikkor 55 - 300mm glass (optimized for Nikon DX cameras) with the Sony A7R, before I buy it. If I use it with the Novoflex adapter as you mentioned, will I lose auto exposure?
    I've been thinking of upgrading to Nikon D800 / D600 but the A7s have really caught my attention.

    hey ... nice review .... quick question is the HDMI out really 4K (like u said in ur video) .... i thought that only is the case with the a7s? ...would be great if the a7 does it also have :)

    • @brainyfaceproject
      @brainyfaceproject  10 років тому +1

      Hi Michael, the A7 supports 4K playback of photos only. The A7S supports 4K recording via Micro HDMI to an external recorder.

    Dear friend, I have seen many Novaflex adapters, but can't find the right one for me. Can you tell me which one I should purchase? I have many Nikkor lenses; all AF-S, from a 24-70 Vr to a 300 f/2.8 VR ii, including the micro 105 f/2.8. I believe the only thing I can modify is the diaphragm with the blue ring, but I'm not sure could you tell me the right one to buy?
    Thanks for the video. By the way, my Sony is an A7S I just purchased
    Best regards,

    When Sony puts in touchscreen LCD and makes the af as fast as a dSLR in low light-then it will be a game changer-not before.

    I've just one question, how do you manage the aperture control for the Nikon Lens ?
    I'm in the same condition than you (50mm / 105mm but not the VR and a 80-200) do you control the aperture with the Novoflex or it's working also with other adaptor ?
    I'm also looking for a wide angle, what do you think of the 24mm ?
    1 - The Nikon Ais 2.8 ((cheap in second hand) or the Samyang 1.4 (maybe to big)
    2 - Or the Voigtlander 15 f4.5 (maybe the aperture could be a problem) or the Samyang 14mm F 2.8
    Do you have any tips with about those lens ??
    Thank you very much

    How long should a camera of this caliber last? I'm not willing to spend $2000 on the a7iii for my first high end camera but I'm also willing to spend enough to get good enough results.

    Hey, would you say the a7 produces good quality images and video footage compare to some of the top dslrs like in the market now. Is the a7 really worth all that money?

    • @brainyfaceproject
      @brainyfaceproject  11 років тому +1

      Hi Justin - yes, the A7 -- with its full-frame sensor -- is producing some very high quality images. I really do love the D800 and would highly recommend checking it out if you're looking to go to full-frame; or a Canon 5D Mark III. I'm treating the A7 like the D800's little brother, but both are great. I really like shooting video with the A7; the customization of buttons, on-screen audio level monitoring, as well as easy peaking and zebra are great. I am very happy with the low light video quality.

      Hi there - I've got the 14-24mm wide angle lens but haven't tried it on the A7. It's my go-to lens on the Nikon D800. I'll check it out on the A7 and let you know if there are any issues in the corners.

      Hi teksTomme - I put the Nikkor 14-24mm onto the A7 tonight and took several pictures. They look great with no issues in the corners.

      @jamessong6058 11 років тому

      Hi Teks Tomme, I used this Nikon 14-24, f2.8G lens, three days ago and it was really awesome to see the end results but when it comes to night city scape at 14mm, I cannot control aperture, only speed and ISO are available, the bright neon lights are all washed out. For daylight, there is no smearing at the corners at all. In fact they are all tack sharp.

    Is it worth for portraits with 85 GM? Im only scared about AF in low light. I also consider D610 with 85/1.4G, but Nikon is lastly unreliable (oil, dust, fucked up AF, poor service).

    • @RS-xk1nj
      @RS-xk1nj 9 років тому

      +Crystal Tai Metabones is the most expensive one but I heard its good but its $400. Commlite is the next best choice i believe at around 100. Unless you're using older all manual canon lenses then just get a cheap ef to e adapter

    a7/s very awkward to hold and does not balance well with heavier lens, best for light travel not for more serious stuff like sports, wildlife, wedding, pj, etc....

    • @brainyfaceproject
      @brainyfaceproject  10 років тому

      DANNY40379 The size is great when using a smaller lens...but you're right, with a larger lens, the rig feels a bit front heavy. When I'm using Lenses like my Nikon 70-200 or 24mm, I really like having the larger body size of the Nikon D800.
