I did for 5 years. It’s a great daily drive. Okay, luggage space is useless but you can get the weekly groceries on board. Where it’s great however, is in the city grind. Firstly it rides really nicely and the cabin is tight but comfortable. Next, the engine, having Atkinson cycle capability, is really elastic. It will pull cleanly and without complaint from 1600 in any gear and it’s really torquey. This means you can be really lazy with it in traffic if you want to. It doesn’t need constant gear changing in traffic because the engine is so flexible. Finally, because the car is light and agile and softly suspended, it moves around a lot to control inputs which makes it hilarious fun even when you are doing 50kph driving to the shops. Oh…and it runs on the smell of an oily rag too. Yeah…as a one up conveyance it’s a brilliant daily drive…with the added bonus of being one of the best cars you’ll ever do you Sunday morning backroad blast in.
@@ProductReviewCars Must admit…that was limitation of it. It was okay for a weekend away, but if we were going away for a period that required a suitcase, we had to take the wife’s Cooper S. You can just squeeze one airline carry on into the Mazda. Which is ultimately why I wound up replacing the MX5 with a 22 BRZ.
Driving to work in my '21 MX5 with the top down and JazzFM coming out the Bose speakers in the headrests is... well, it's more fun than anything that's going to happen after I get there. Makes me wish my commute was longer. As for running on the smell of an oily rag, I do get 56mpg on the motorway driving nice and sensibly (1.5 litre car) but that comes way, way down crawling around town or on any road out of town that tempts me to start throwing it into corners and revving it. But that's what it's really for, isn't it?

@@HisMajesty99 it's fine in the rain, I think that the 50:50 weight distribution helps but I don't push it too hard. Have dailied an ND since 2015. It’s more practical than it looks. My center console holds a utility knife, sunglasses, pen, small flashlight, ear plugs, and a few other items. The rear center storage box holds a lot; more than most glove boxes. I’ve got too much in there to list. There are also storage boxes behind each seat. I keep rain ponchos in the passenger side one; tire plug kit, dial tire gauge, and a few tools in the driver’s side. Compact umbrella fits in the passenger side well between the seat and the door sill; emergency extraction tool fits on the driver’s side. Hat stows between the center console and the passenger seat. The two cupholders are adequate. I’m 5’11” / 250 lbs and my car has the Recaro seats, which are narrower than the standard ones. I fit fine. The passenger side is snug if the passenger is taller than average. I fit there but admit to feeling a bit hemmed in. The trunk hold enough for two people to go on a week-long road trip, provided you use soft luggage and fill all of the available space. I’ve done it many times. I’ve also brought home several week’ worth of groceries from Costco, using the trunk and the passenger space. Then there’s the fact that the car is low maintenance and exceptionally reliable. I don’t baby it and I average 29 mpg. People who drive more conservatively see close to 40 mpg. The only times I find it lacking is when I need to transport more than one other person (obviously), and when my wife and I go to the beach. With a passenger, there’s no place to stow beach chairs or a beach umbrella.
I daily drive a Corsa OPC (VXR in the UK) and it's absolutely horrible as "a car" to drive from point A to point B in many aspects. Do I care tho? Not really. On weekends I find myself driving exotic roads and racetracks and thats where a car like that shines. For me i'm in no position holding 2 cars as one will just sit without driving almost at all for an entire week so the Corsa does the job relatively fine for both weekend and daily car. But at the end of the day, you can take the tow bar off and have a sexy roadster; whereas the soccer mom/divorced dad is stuck with a sluggish truck or "sport" utility vehicle.
i didnt know the ND got rid of the glovebox, thats super weird. probably for the best though, the NC doesnt quite have the most legroom
I drive mine every day, my wife loves it too 🙂 she has a Ford Edge too so between the two of us it works...
It's gorgeous, fun to drive and reliable...
love the MX-5
I daily drove an NB for about a year. Not good if you're doing DIY or buying furniture but apart from that it was perfect.
There's a button on the car to open the boot too. Top right of the number plate you'll find it
I really drive the 2022 MX-5 Miata almost every day.
Which is act-
Wait till he looks behind the passenger seat and finds the glovebox
I can't believe I forgot that compartment (first time with an MX-5 and it showed haha)
My ND is a daily driver . Hit 110000km
When it’s only you and your dog it’s the best daily drive
"Space for your knees" - in this dollhouse! Maybe for small Japanese women but for no one else!
Thank you for the joke of the day 👍
Yes, you can. I have a NB miata (2000) and I drive it everyday to the work.
Genuinely, how many people need more storage space than that for their daily commute? How much do you need to bring from your house to work every day? And even when you’re doing grocery runs and stuff unless you buy in serious bulk you could fit it all in the trunk and passenger seat
I daily mine every day… fits all my tools no problem
I daily drive a 2022 MX5 Miata and have done so since July of 2022. I have 26 thousand miles on it.
I'm jealous
180.000 km on my ND, averaging around 30k per year. It's the only car I have. It should last at least another 2 years. Not sure what I'll drive next (if anything).
I’ve had seven Miatas. It’s all I drive. 💜
I drive my 2016 miata nd since 2020 every day to work.Perfect.I grint over my face every day, if i see common people in common cars ..
I see no reason why that wouldn't work as a daily driver. My car is a 2007 MX-5 NC, and it gets the job done, no problemo.
“There’s another lockable one-which is AC”
you can daily any car if its all you can afford
Me daily driving a 1995 FIAT Barchetta:
👀
Luv it planning to get one
Same here!
dooo iiiittttt
when its got more trunk room than a vw jetta😂 (not including with the seats folded down)
I bought a 2010 PHT GT in 2016, and am daily driving it to this day. I guess one needs to define practical....
I daily drive 2022 mx-5. Best car i ever owned
Nobody ever mentions the two storage compartments behind each seat
Yes. The answer is always yes
2019 ND2 RF that I have 90% converted to a ND2 Cup Car.. I daily it 50 miles a day and get groceries' in it just fine.
There are boxes behind the seats. You can put the manual books in there.
Not everything needs to be for utility some things are there just to enjoy them. Besides anyone who want first and foremost utility will get some sort of SUV or hunch back car. If you are single I don't see when this won't come in handy, if you need to get something bigger like a desk just rent a van or something.
About to buy one and daily in Colorado hopefully blizzaks are good enough tires
Why not mention the two compartments behind seats ?
I'd say yes considering I daily a 2017 miata XD
Username checks out
@ProductReviewCars I just recently got it back in April, and I love it every day. Also, I just recently changed my username to this, and you immediately pointed it out, lol. I love my 2017 club 6 only thing I wish is that it had the 181hp instead of the 155hp. It has a dead zone between 3.5k and about 5k rpms that is very noticeable. I'm probably just going to get a tune for it that will get rid of that, but I can't imagine how fun an ND2 is compared to my ND1
*sighs in unplowed snowy roads for 3 months out of the year*
I had to get the CX5. Maybe in the future, when I have a two-car garage and can afford a summer only vehicle lol.
