My review and experience of the Apple Silicone M1 Max MacBook Pro 14" released late 2021. The best overall laptop for productivity, creativity, video editing in DaVinci/Final Cut Pro, with solid battery life on the go?
Comment "M1 max” if you see this!

I don’t do as much of the professional editing but when I do I like my device to be ready. I also did a maxed out 14”. The 16” was not for me. Just felt like it drew too much attention, and I already have a 27” iMac at home. 14” is the sweet size for me and it’s even better now because one can amp up the specs unlike before. I’m also future proofing as I plan to keep this for at least 10 years just like my 2012.
I guess I’m kind of like those people who drive a sports car but live in a city. Driving a beast of a car for it to be constantly stuck in traffic jams. But when I floor it, I like it to be ready!!!
Great review Justin - super informative. Right now, I'm working off the '20 13-in MBP and it's a beast so I know that one is!
I totally get the appeal with M1 Max when it comes to performance...but realistically who is gonna edit videos, render a heavy project, and edit photos at the same time? Usually people just stick to one app then move onto the next. I believe MBP M1 Pro is sufficient for most cases, heck even the MacBook Air would be fine too.
I agree. I don’t understand why this overpriced laptop is popular for “content creators.” It’s def made for software developers that are creating heavy ass softwares before optimizing. Or even filmmakers that are making blockbuster films and are working with CGI.
@@HoshiWulf UA-camrs really think they are creating magic out here
@@A.M03 some, indeed,are.
@@HoshiWulf Definitely NOT over priced. We've run our radio stations 24/7 using MacBook Pro's. The quality of the internal components is excellent. No reason not to get 10 years of use from a Mac 7 days a week for a good 5 - 7 hours a day.
m1 max is most toward video editting with really hard footage, such as bmpcc6k pro, r3d raw, and 8k h265,it is night and tday in terms of the effeciecny, like saving project time by 300 percent, and it can be powerful in doing photo editing and graphics design as well. It is true that people usually work in one field, but it is also true that content creators nowadays, especially solo creators, needs to know multiple fields at once. On the other hand, even producers or film directors need to know a little bit of everything as well. Furthermore, the ability to do a lot more than video editting can open up potentials for those who are really creative, as photography, film making, video prodcution, and art acutally are in common in a lot of ways. I do know some famous artist who are capable and are doing multiple creativities, thus please dont judge people's need and refuse the potential for them to explore and improve
As crazy as it sounds... I upgraded to the base 14 from an M1 Air and it already feels much more silky. M1 with external 5k monitor wasnt always seamless, things could get laggy. With the M1 Pro and 14 all those first generation bugs seem to be worked out.
The chapter spacing of this review just makes it that much more quality!
ayo bruh, youre lowkey mad smart. Like this review literally answers every question i had in one. You're killin it rn.
It was very useful, thanks Justin ✌️
Gonna be upgrading to the new 16" any day now! coming from an 2014 pro so hopefully a solid upgrade!
Mine is on order. Can’t wait till it arrives.
Really nice review Justin. What an absolute beast too!
Thank you!
@@JustinTse M1 Max
Glad to hear it's so powerful!
Love the return to the old style shape. MagSafe, welcome back! SD cards still widely used by the consumer market. Notch, whatever, we live with it in other places, let’s see what future MacBooks bring. Apple moving to their own chips made so much sense, but boy do they have you with the choice, you always want the best! I like the new keyboard design. Amazing how much power you can get in a laptop now.
The 14'' is a good size for ease of portability, M1 Max is beast when it comes to performance. cheers Justin.
Hey man, love your content! I really like the aesthetic of it. Would you mind linking where you bought your F1 paintings? Cheers!
Been really stuck between getting the 16 or just sticking with the 14 inch model. The video was awesome and thanks for being so detailed with the review!
If you plan to use monitors, you will most likely be disappointed in how it looks compared to MacBooks new screen. For that reason, the extra 2” of the 16, help me use the laptop screen more.
Depend on what kinda of work you do, for better mobility definitely go for 14 inch. For longer battery life and bigger screen go for 16 inch.
@@JaylenFast true! I’d be scared to pay for a monitor of the same quality with the 120 hz
@@BlackWidowYT_FPS I mainly use my laptop as a desktop with a separate monitor. So I think it might be okay so far. The 16 inch is very appealing for travel with the extra screen size
@@br1an_park yeah 16 inch is better overall than 14 inch, I got 16 “ M1 Pro with 1tb, it is definitely without a doubt the best laptop I have ever owned
i am a business owner and marketing student , i got the 16 inch one because i am using word, chrome and apple's screen reader to read my notes and textbooks. i also use excel a lot with my business and school. i also want to rave about the battery life. if i charge on a monday for school and by friday night i will have to charge if i only use it in school but if i use it off campus to do other stuff like extra homework and business stuff then i get 2-3 days
I sure love mine. And i just got the base one from Costco!
What a great explanation, subscribed!
Thank you!
I just ordered mine. 👍🏻
Love this review - wish I had the funds to back up one of these beasts of a MacBook but at the moment slightly out of grasp 😂 keep up the videos!
I got the MBP 2021 16 inch M1 Pro with 1TB storage, I gotta say this is the best laptop I have even owned. No heat issues comparing to i9 2019 version, no lag! Also, I haven't heard any fans and no system throttling, which is a bless for professionals.
My biggest shock is the battery, I think it last around 10 hours which is almost double what I used to get with 2019 i9 version, I am very pleased.
Hey, how much RAM ist your spec? Have U tried heavier Video workloads? RAW/ProRes/ HEVC in 4k/6k/8k. I really wanna convince myself of not spending the extra Money for the M1Max the fear of Missing Out is there 😅
Does 16 inch feel too large to carry?
@@singhkrishanu Due to movement restrictions lately with COVID, I have set it up as a desktop. I haven’t travelled with the new MBP tbh.
@@johannm7794 My RAM is basic which is 16 gb, my work is all about photoshop, emailing and multitasking which I don’t do any video editing. I believe it is better to go for M1 Max for video editing. If you need the heavy work like really heavy work of video editing go for M1 Max, but I think M1 Pro can do video editing but not sure how it will handle 8k for instance.
@@BlackWidowYT_FPS Thanks for the detailed answer! 💪🏾
Thank you for this video! Super informative, and solidified my thought on getting the 14". The real debate was on getting the M1 Pro or M1 Max. I'm trying to save where I can, and from what I got from the video, the M1 Pro is comparable to the Max if you're just cutting and pasting clips. (I'm just a small youtuber who prob won't be doing more than that). Just wondering if its worth to get the Max to "future proof". Not trying to spend almost 4k to just upgrade it in 2 years LOL.
MacBook pros are excellent machines, I just recently upgraded from a 10 year old one.
Really in love with the videography
That just spice up the experience ❤️
+ Your captivative voice is just combo which hits the point
M1 max is just beast like you
Appreciate that!
nice one bro
Nice review Justin ! Three months using iPhone 13 Pro experience when ?
please share the link to the wallpaper ;)
Can you make a video on how you make your thumbnail minimal editing?
Hi! Can I get the wallpaper from the 15 inch macbook with island in the middle?
Can we get a review of that Leica Q2??? 🧐🧐
Ugh. The 16” is still my dream machine
Is most of the content creating done in laptop mode or is it part of a docking station with a monitor, mouse, etc. I personally don’t like working with the trackpad for long periods of time and find myself more productive on a desktop. Trying to see if others have similar issues or a solution.
Every computer, laptop, tablet I own is Windows based. Maybe it's time I bite the bullet and try a Mac Book.
Loving your reviews, they're very unbiased which is refreshing.
Kind regards from Australia Rikki.
I switched to Mac in 2015 , best decision ever.
I you switch get a higher spec one. I have a base air 2019 and it’s rough.
@@neko8711 Cheers will do that.
Regards Rikki
Me too, Im also a windows user deciding if i should switch.
what's in my travel backpack 2022?
Thank you for the valuable information,it's a great device .How much I dream of, but it's expensive, as a matter of help , whether you have a used MacBook or an old generation that you want to do without ,I need it and thank you ,and allow me to intrude on you😉
Nice video, as usual! Space gray was a solid choice 😎
Hey quick question here. I was thinking on get a 14 inch Macbook so I can do most of my editing on FCP and business stuff on there and having it being portable, I can bring it and edit on the road or during trips. I have a 2020 macbook pro 13 in i7 processor and such and would like to use that just mainly for school and leave the editing for the new 14in macbook. Do you think I should spec my 14in Macbook to the brim? Or do you think I should still with my 13 in for a couple more years before upgrading cause Ive only had this laptop for about 2 years.
Hi, I'm going to buy my macbook tomorrow, please tell me if you think the 14in 24gpu 32gb is more interesting or do you suggest 14in 32gpu 32gb? Congratulations, the best video in a month watching reviews :)
I do want this 14 inch to replace my 13 inch MacBook Pro 2016
I got the 16inch m1 max 32gpu 32ram but somehow moving through pics on lightroom cc it lags also sometimes on luminar ai
M1 Max!
Watching things I can’t buy for now. Is macbook air is still a good buy in 2022?
M1 MAX❤️
Leica Camera indicates that you've sufficient budget for an M1 Max :). I have a 14" MacBook Pro M1 Max (24-core GPU) with 64GB of RAM for my own L mount camera, but it is a Panasonic Lumix S5.
What's difference between 32&64 ram ?
What made you choose the 14" over the 16" and would it be worth getting the M1 Max for Video Editing/Motion Design?
Hi, I have the new m1 pro 16 inch, but am thinking of switching to the 14. What made you choose the 14 as your main device. Also do you feel as though the 14 inch reduces the experience when watching content such as netflix etc....?
I purchased a 16 as well and used it for two days before returning it and getting the 14. The 16 doesn’t feel as portable and but the speakers and battery life is better. 14 is perfect for me tho.
Yeah, I honestly thought this was the MacBook pro was the one to follow the early 2015 model. Technically it is, just 5 years later.
Does it have fan noise and overheat during normal use
Which one do you like more: 14 or 16 inch, do you feel 16” is too big, after you have used it for a while?
for my personal use, the 14" but if it was to be my main computer i think the 16" makes total sense. I just like to have a big separation in portability between my day to day setup, and on-the-go.
If you gonna move around a lot “work on the go” and etc, go for 14” inch but if you want best battery experience go for 16” inch
Ordered a 16” M1 Max late December. Doesn’t arrive until March 😩
Haha mine took a while
Yeah the wait times are crazy
We waiting for the f1 gaming setup
M1 Max
Am I wrong or is there no 14 inch M1 Max option...
Hey man can you do some more car reviews
Yup
Where is the wallpapers from? @7:30
I wonder why apple hasn't came out with their own professional camera
M1 max
Cool
你的英文口音是哪里的?有时候听不太懂。
looks a little thicker than the previous one
You look like Samir Nasri for some reason
M1 max😀
M1 has no upgradable ram or ssd once broken.
"M1 Max"
Does the 14" - M1 Max model even exist? Though only that CPU was in top 16" model
Both the 14” and 16” can be ordered with identical specifications up to the M1 Max 10-Core CPU/32-Core GPU, 64GB RAM, 8TB SSD. Only difference is screen size and screen resolution.
I feel like this MacBook is not a good value for students to get. Because students can get a MacBook Air M1 and save like 999$. And with that money you can get a decent gaming or productivity monitor and Xbox series S or Nintendo switch OLED or even a budget range gaming laptop.
I believe MacBook Pro M1 Pro would be a good value if most of the games would have been optimized under M1, but it is not
Yeah specially M1 Max is not for students, M1 is good enough for students. I bought the MBP M1 Pro with 1TB storage. The best laptop I have ever owned!
You spent over 10 minutes talking and talking before you got to the specs. What is the ssd drive and what are its read and write speed? Also what exactly is the processor, and its speed and is it 7nm or 5nm, and who makes it. You miss alot that people want to know. This video could be condensed to 4 minutes max. Less is more, if you want to convey your message on Any product.
Ok apple 🍎
""
Uu🧙♂️
the 14" doesn't have the m1 max💀
Sure does, look at the upgraded configuration options
Apple are one of the most overrated products.
