One reason I do not rate many tech magazines online or otherwise is that they fail to recognise the fact that large screens totally dominate the smartphone market, yet the software element that is needed to make these larger screen phones great is optimization for that larger screen. I have been saying this for many years, yet it is rarely mentioned. When Samsung introduced ONE UI it was a big step forward that no other phone OEM has come close to matching. You making the point here (I know it is not the first time) is a breath of fresh air. It is all well and good getting software updates for 5 years or more, but what's the use if they are only introducing features and functionality that was around 5 years go or does not cater for the modern form factor.
Well I am not sure just few people with your opinion define the ground. The Galaxy S21 series has been the worst selling Galaxy S ever, with only 13.5 million worldwide sales in its first six months compared to 100 million iPhone 12's in seven months! So if what you say was important or relevant then these figures would reflect that? The truth is most of us buy a larger phone for a full-scree bigger panel, not for gimmicks like split-screen (rarely use that on my Tab S7+). To me, since OneUI came along with its bloat, Samsung sales have bombed, changing a winning formula has led to flops (s20 and S21).
@@andyH_England ur foolish to compare that iphone sales figure to the S21 lineup,,, those iphone sales numbers represents every single iphone model from the SE to the pro max,,, the galaxy S21 is just one model,, if u wasn't a fraud lair u would have to compare all of samsung's model sales to the iphone numbers u just mentioned, ur such a fracking lair fraud
@@Big_Black_Dick We are talking about the flagship candy bar sales and even if you add two million for the foldable's it is still very poor sales. Of course, if you add $200 Saamsung phones then it is not realistic as Apple does not compete in that market.
@@andyH_England my point still stands, ur a fraud lair making fraud comparisons, if ur gonna use those iphone sales numbers which represents every single iphone model then u have to do the same wit samsung and use the sales figures for every single samsung model,, dont be a fraud bruh, u sound like a fraud democrat 😑 let's go brandon :P
I like it when I plug my phone in to a TV and watch one my movies Or set it up for a group video chat and we can sit in front of the TV and not have to look at a smaller screen Or when I set up my phone to be the remote for the TV And I can do all that without having to buy some special APPLE only device. I can do it on any tv with any online movie app It allows me to use my accounts on my phone without signing into their TV apps. And yes, some people do not get home internet. So I can download the movies to watch offline with no buffering Or with my unlimited data
Why I personally prefer OneUI: -- Dex -- GoodLock -- Bixby Routines -- One Hand Operation+ -- Themes and customization -- FAR batter multitasking and file management -- clutter-free and aesthetically pleasing -- Might not be better than iOS in but animations are still smooth -- I prefer the Samsung ecosystem TabS7+, GW4, Buds and several smart home appliances
I can guarantee @ravi is a poor guy who has never owned an iPhone and still sees iPhone as aspirational products. Trust me once you do own an iPhone(especially bigger ones) you will understand how utterly pointless its existence is.
Funny, I tried the S21 earlier this year and missed iOS and my ecosystem being broken up, got an iPhone 12 Pro Max and find myself missing the Samsung again. Will likely get the S22 Ultra.
Note 20 ultra and 13 pro max owner over here. My sim is always in the note unless I'm traveling and need a bigger battery. The note is more productive and just makes use of that bigger canvas. Heck, it is a workhorse of a phone
Still holding on to my Note 10+ for exactly that reason. A Note phone is simply irreplaceable I got the 13 mini to replace my S10 as a second phone.....five weeks and I went and got an S20 instead
The S21 Ultra is the Swiss Army knife of smartphones, when you exclude the Z fold 3 of course. I’d definitely buy if I want my phone to do everything from a computing device.
Old sammies vibration when you left it somewhere and missed messages, that gentle vibration just to tell you,hey you missed something, just one example of how well things are thought out on this phone. Korean refinement in the right places.
We can also brag about our amazing App Store compared to the play store. It’s not even a competition. The google play store apps have more virus’s and are not as polished as iOS apps are.
Reviewer : "the android phone is better than the iphone" Android fans : "finally an honest reviewer" Oh yeah. Sure Well, I prefer 6 years of support. I prefer better app store. I prefer better performance. I prefer more durable glass. I prefer the best video recording cameras and I prefer the malware free environment of ios.l love the great battery life of iphone 13 line up.I love the apple ecosystem and how my iphone, ipad and apple watch interact with each other. And I love how upcoming snapdragon 8 gen1 is significantly slower than apple A15. Btw who got the best mark in do for display? Oh yeah.Okay! Oh rightttttt how could I forget!!! Android phones zoom better. Okay that's game changinge
I tried going to the iPhone 13 pro max from the s20 ultra and didn't last a week. It honestly felt like a step backward when it comes to the ease of use for me. The thing I missed the most was the universal back button. Also, why can't you fully customize your homescreen? All apps and widgets home upward for no reason. Went back to my S20 quickly. Waiting for S22 ultra.
Glad someone else realizes these small things make ease of use a difference. And not to mention swipe down from anywhere to bring the tool bars lower as opposed to top left for notifications and top right for tools, still no clear all opened applications. Don’t get me wrong the iPhone 13 pro max is a good phone I love the camera and iMessage but for me personally I can’t wait to go back to Sammy when the s22 line up comes out. I’ve had both iPhones and Samsung since the iPhone 6 and galaxy s2 all the way up till now. Apple to me is just behind in things that matter to me. I will say that the battery life on the 13 pro max is class leading regardless of how fast the battery charge speed is.
I sold my iphone 13 pro after using for a month and im so glad i did. S21 ultra is a whole different level as i have purchased it a week ago. Feels epic in hand as well
One UI is hands down the best interface I've ever used on a phone, so many useful features not found elsewhere, and it's so clutter-free and aesthetic pleasing 🥰 Whenever you wonder if you can customise an aspect of the aesthetics or change a system setting to your liking 99% of the time the answer is yes
You nailed it. I prefer more features over slightly better performance. I don't mind using Apple and will admit there are several things Apple does better than the S21. But there are so many things the S21 and Android has in general that Apple simply does not have, Dex and multi screen being the biggest examples.
Umm, I own both iPhone 13 Pro and Samsung S21 Ultra... If what you mean by "performance" is changing between apps and going back and forth between several screen in single apps. In my own experience, S21 Ultra does it much faster and the animation is snappier. I think what iPhone performs better is the camera... and pretty much just that
Never understood why Apple still doesn't take full advantage of their largest models. They are so stuck in their ways that ever since the iPhone 6 plus they haven't changed their bigger screen software
Totally agree with your comments. Been on android long term, fancied a a change this year and bought the iphone 13 pro max and really wanted to give it go for the 2 years. But found I was looking at the screen for notifications ie always on display and once you set the phone up add widgets to home screen etc etc, it's a case of well that's it I can't customize anything else and you get bored of ios quickly. Will say I achieved 3 day battery life with the iphone. Sending it back as had 31 day cooling off period, now waiting for Google pixel 6 pro.
Because they always want to make room for improvement if they do everything at once, no one will buy the next model unless they break or lose their iPhone to no repairable condition
A note on software updates on Android.... there are actually several levels of updates. The Android version is one level, and not a very significant one at that. Then there's security updates, but while Samsung promises 4 years of those, a lot of security updates also come through directly via Google's Play services. And those are supported for a very, very long time. Going all the way back to supporting ancient Android versions. So even very old phones are still relatively safe against exploits. And then there are the app updates themselves. While Apple has this idiotic construction where you have to receive an entire OS update when the browser, mail client or calendar app needs to be updated, on Android all these apps are updated seperately from the OS. And again, they (the apps) receive software updates for years and years. So the situation on Android is not as bad as everyone always makes it seem.
Yes it is. Android updates are shit. You only get 2-3 years of software support except for the pixel which gets extended support. For the people who actually keep their devices that long.
While I agree with you that removing either was "unnecessary" the last time I plugged a pair of earphones into my phone was on the S7 Edge. One day I was using the LG V50, it struck me that the entire time I'd owned it (2 years at the time) I'd never once used its audio DAC. Last month I sold my trusty S10 and while I prepared it for shipping I realised it had had a jack at the bottom the whole time. I had to clean out pocket lint from it Lol Memory expansion? I haven't put a memory card in a phone since the Note 3 Samsung and all other mobile OEMs have access to anecdotal data such as my own use scenario and on a massive scale. They KNOW that the audio jack and memory expansion are not in any way a thing that people really care about on a phone. Samsung especially being the world's leading retailer of expandable storage cards they actually MAKE money from more phones having the option. The fact that both were dropped now even from mid rangers should tell you something
@@kenbee1957 Yes, of course. It's telling me that Samsung is losing the direction following Apple's worst strategies that might work wonders for Apple but not necessarily for Samsung. Last time I used the headphone jack was just an hour ago before coming to work on my Galaxy Note 9 which is still my favourite phone despite having the Note 20 ultra, Note 10 plus other Samsung's phones and 3 iphones. Of course, I have a 256GB microSD card in it.
For me, micro SD would only be good for inserting one from other devices like cameras. And then you still have to carry a sim tool around. Otherwise the 512GB internal memory is fine.
Totally agree. S21 Ultra is the better phone overall. Over the years, Samsung has been lacking in several areas such as software and ecosystem integration. But now, Samsung had improved the software part with One UI and regular timely update. Thumb up for this. Samsung's ecosystem is still slightly behind Apple but I can see that they are catching up fast.
@@angamkom that's your opinion and completely fine. My note 10 plus still holds battery and charges faster than the new iPhone. As for the software again very subjective. I consider Apple to be very problematic in that area if you're not born into the Apple ecosystem. Ehh they can keep it!
@@angamkom that's false, my dad has the note 10 and my daughter has the S10+ and I have the S21 ultra, we have no problem whatsoever everything is running fine and smooth like it was brand new

In my opinion Apple has better built, premium fit and finish, design is sleeker, battery is the best , and about processor they have the fastest A15 bionic . Camera wise it may not be the best…Samsung has better zoom that doesn’t mean better picture quality. Yes apple ain’t perfect…it offers very less free iCloud storage of 5gb , and it has still got that notch which I don’t like …otherwise my iPhone 13 pro max is a beast…it’s a monster when it comes to recording video , playing high end games …it’s lightning fast.
Love that supcase is a sponsor. They have been my go to case for phones and tablets over the years. Ever since the s7 to the s21 ultra and iPhone 13 pro max. These cases don't stretch out over time like otterbox does and costs less than an otterbox while supcase also having better long term durability.
When I saw the review on my timeline, I didn't want to watch buy I was feeling boring so I just want to give it a try …. after watching it now I know that there are still still people out there who are Reviewers nor Brand Recommenders.
Even when the fast and long support for updates and gaming performance in very demanding games like genshin keeps tempting me to go to the iphone, I just can't handle ios when it feels like a ui made for a small phone, but in a big phone....
what phone are you using ? I personally haven't played genshin on Android but i'm using a note 20 ultra and I do not see any lags in my game, even the beta game for Apex Legends, albeit, i also don't get ads from samsung but I think that's almost exclusive to Americans? or so it seems.
@@sonofage I'm currently using a s10 and tab s7, and even on the tab (which has the same processor as the note 20 ultra) stutters when I play genshin in high~max settings with 60fps.. for the ads, it was a thing in some countries including korea but I heard that they are removing most of them
Good review. Some tech reviewers seem to give their verdict based on brand and not actual features nor performance of the phones, so it is nice to see one review that is objective.
Actually one handed mode on the ultra makes it very usable with one hand. Not to mention you can resize and reposition the minimized view to exactly your needs. Far better than reachability mode on the iphone.
i just wish the s21's camera look just as good in third party apps. I know snapchat finally supported and optimized for the s21 but that's the only good android phone for snap and everything else like tik tok and Instagram stories looks really bad and I'm tiring of having to explain to people android cameras look great when they are taken outside of the apps or when not compressed by green bubbles (SMS) hopefully apple adopts rcs soon
@@Th4tNiggaSpiderman yeah but the issue is that they stopped supporting snap after the pixel 4 ditched the visual core and even on the pixel 2 and 3 updates would consecutively change the quality like its the devs would forget the code for using the actual camera hardware then put into the next update then forget and so on, I noticed the same with my s21 where on some firmware versions it looks far better. with the 6 i know they worked with snapchat on the gimmick to access snap quickly but ill have to see actual reviewers attest to the image quality first. and none of this changes the fact that its impossible to share good images regardless since I cant get any of my ios friends to use google drive to share images since I don't have uncompressed imessages and rather SMS. i know I'm ranting but I think these are all valid points for people who care about social life and camera quality of their social apps like me
@@jbelfort42069 i understand. My main phone is a pixel 2 XL and I noticed quality dips on snap when they were still a colab. It's so weird that after all these years since the first pixel they could at least fix their own phone and there aren't many of them. And they own android OS
@@Th4tNiggaSpiderman dope man, and yeah im tired of people saying pixel to me when I request a good android snapchat phone because snapchat eventually stops supporting or updating the camera on said device. Then eventually abandons the phone altogether (as the pixel 4 and 5 took screen grabs from the view finder like any other android phone)
Yes try. I am a long time Samsung user up to note 10 plus. I really don’t get why people hating on I phone. Now I guess I know why I phone for me is better against android. Again it’s just only me. I have no issues about restrictions others claim it to be.
I own both S21 Ultra and iPhone 13 pro (not a max one). The camera and built quality are indeed better in the iPhone. But the rest, i.e. screen color reproduction and quality, image resolution and refresh rate, animation, speaker quality, user interface, Android style notifications, I find that S21 Ultra is still superior. The UI in Samsung is somehow more superior and has more "professional" look that I like. Most Google apps such as UA-cam, Gmail, Maps and even Non-Google Apps such as Spotify and Instagram, have better user interface experience. Why?? Because single Samsung screen contains more packed and denser text and information which requires much less scrolling than iOS version. Even when you do need scrolling, Samsung handles them much better than iPHone. The animation in My Samsung is also snappier than my iPhone. And not to mention Face ID??? During pandemic??? Wow, what a useless biometric. Even Face ID does not really work as good as Underscreen Fingerprint sensor on Samsung. More often than not, it fails to recognised my face.
nice to sum it up dude only thing id say is iphone speakers are better i mean they sound so amazing sure i have the s 21 ultra speakers dialed into how apple sounds but i do like s 21 is better in every other way
I'm just not a fan of how stagnant apple are when it comes to the iphone, as tech enthusiasts we just appreciate what companies like Samsung and even Google are doing with their smartphones. I can't wait to see what more Samsung has in store with the s22
The stuff you like is subjective, for example MagSaafe is my fav feature of all time, but Samsung fans will dump on that despite its usefulness and instead get excited about having gaps between icons. I think they vast majority of non-techies care more for features that Apple bring than Samsung does. This plays out in sales as the Galaxy S21 line was the worst selling S line in history whilst the iPhone 12, much maligned by Android fans, set new records.
@@andyH_England You’re right. The majority of the U.S and Japan has spoken. 70 percent of smart phone users in the U.S use iPhones. And in Japan iPhone’s domination continues. The truth is that the vast majority doesn’t really care about what Samsung has to offer. This is why apple held off on 120hz. Their fanbase just doesn’t care about that. They did an experiment on UA-cam where a guy let people use 120hz. Out of I think 10 people only one person noticed without a side by side comparison, and nobody in the video thought it was worth anything extra.
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN Clearly majority of people don't use such features. It's nice, but even me as a tech person prefer to use my PC as a PC and my phone as a phone. The only "multi-window" stuff I use is UA-cam vanced. I'd rather Apple fix up file transfers on Windows before adding a multi-window feature. It's annoying to not be able to copy files to and from without weird iTunes rubbish.
I agree with everything Jamie said on this non-biased comparison/review one feature I've been using a lot that reviewers hardly seem to talk about is DEX. I've been a lifetime apple user and after playing with the s21 ultra a week after release at best buy I went home traded one of my old iPhones (got a great trade-in deal) and got free galaxy buds pro which I absolutely loveee.. a week after that traded in my Apple watch and got the galaxy watch 3 for a steal ... and now I have a tab 7plus which I also got cheap!!! I traded the old one my company gave me .. so not only was it easy to leave apple ecosystem it was fairly cheap to join Samsung ecosystem (great software & hardware)
The only reason I want to transition to an iPhone is the quality of Instagram stories and the appearances of emojis. Instagram is the worst for never attempting to fix the issue with Androids.
Jaime, another great review. If possible, the S21 Ultra really flew under the radar this year. It's been the best phone I've ever used, by far. I could see myself keeping this phone for it's complete lifespan of updates.
Curved phones? Sure, but only on the back. The front should be completely flat on more of them. Most people put a glass screen protector on and those come with a slightly curved edge. Applying them on an recent iPhone is such a wonderful thing. You’ve got no halo effect and you can get a perfect fit on the first try. On a curved screen good luck with that.
Watching on my S21. Switched from iPhone 12. This video is so awesome. Samsung won but the reasons behind it were explained very well. Pocketnow is my go to for smartphones. Even bought my S21 after watching pocket now review for S21. P.S. Samsung released official One UI 4 with Android 12 for S21. Samsung is catching up in updates department too. Best part of all these videos is Jaime saying his name.
@@PioloAskal2009 It’s a tough call even for me. S22 is around the corner and I guess would be in the price category of $800. See S21+ at $600 is a great deal. Good cameras, beautiful big display and samsung software support. So ultimately it comes to one question would you like to spend extra and go to the latest flagship or would you love to buy last year’s flagship with great features at a low cost. Also S22+ would be higher I guess around $1000. So you can either go for normal S22 or can buy S21+
Unfortunately they didnt make a smaller version of S21 ultra, i bought it but had to return it - and the curvy screen just sucks, to bad they didnt go with the normal s21 design of the screen.
This year marked my return to samsung. Was using Huawei mate and P series for the last 4 years. Went for the Fold 3 and I'm in awe every time I open the phone.
S21 ultra got all the bells and whistles, but it just feels too large. Wish Samsung made a S21-sized phone with almost all the features that the ultra has
The lawyer where I work at had a Galaxy S10+, after which he bought an iPhone 12 Pro, believe it or not after just 15 days he sold the iPhone and now he bought a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra he says for multitasking the iPhone was garbage and for some reason only displayed the most recent calls, meaning all the previous calls from clients he didn't save were gone. And he said the notch was stupid and the phone was difficult to use.
One thing that moved me away from apple is the lack of multitasking support. Seriously, the 12 Pro Max (and 13) is extremely large, and not having splitscreen multitasking just makes me questions why the larger models exist.
They exist for older people like me that prefer a bigger screen to aid our tired eyes! They are to get more on a page when you read, a bigger display for media, etc. This seems like common sense. If I actually want to work I would find ssplit-screen unproductive and a terrible user experience. I just get my laptop or tab let out to do more demanding stuff with the support of a keyboard. I think very few consumers need a ssplit-screen and it is quite overrated.
@@andyH_England no split screen is very needed I'm 66 and love it and there are times people only carry a phone and like to make phonecards and have notes available
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN I have never found a reason for split screen when I am out and about. I see examples in the US where they say they are driving and want Maps in one half and media controls in the other, which is of course illegal in the UK and six points with a hefty fine! I do have an Apple Watch which allows for a secondary control.
In one hand they say "it's not premium looking as its made of cheap plastic" and on the other side when 'ultra premium glass phones' comes in they say "this video is sponsored by blah blah case"
I went over to the note line for 3 years just to try something different. I had the Note 9, 10+, max 20 ultra. I liked it as a media consumption device and I liked reverse wireless charging. The issue with owning any android phone in the U.S is that 70 percent of people here own iPhones. If you’re like me and you like to send videos, hi res pictures to friends, and run social media accounts, then then android ran devices aren’t your friend. Then couple that with the fact that when you start searching from products to compliment your mobile device, you come to realize that apple is head and shoulders above in tablets and smart watches. Then when we can go even further with device longevity… which apple has dominated for years. The truth is that the things that Apple does better are a pretty big deal and are real reasons why someone may or may not choose a device.
I agree with your assessment but that does not make Apple better. My wife was an Android user (a very happy one I might add) for years but recently switched to Apple for exactly the reason you mention - peer pressure. Her best friends are all Apple users and sharing content was not the best. However, that does not mean the devices are better simply because more people use them. I've been in both camps, I've loved both types of devices, I've been a very happy user of both platforms but do prefer Android - it's just a better experience overall.
@@emanuelneiconi I agree with you, but you have to consider the aspects beyond the phone itself as well, the Apple ecosystem, the convenience of sharing full res content and messaging as well as being able to open yourself up to the world of high quality third party accessories out there. It’s very difficult to give up for most iPhone users.
@@Pocketnow literally watching your video with pip on iPhone. I am not sure what you mean by official since it is activated by default in the app if you have UA-cam premium. All I had to do was enable pip from the settings app
@@Pocketnow Google owns Android and did not support PiP in iOS, I think that is a poor example. I don't see myself upgrading from my s21 ultra this year. Unless the s22 series has a micro SD slot or 65w or 45 charging. Note a super big fan of the note looking way of the new s22 ultra. So if I do upgrade to a s22 series it'll most likely be the s22+. As for Apple devices I never like their phone screens or their os to begin with. And the lack of screen resolution and screen usage with their notch they refuse to get rid of does it for me. Plus I like being able to customize my phone in anyway I want. And Sammy let's me do that.
@@blackice51374 how does it slow down phones and causes "more issues" ? the OS is built on the internal storage and most apps are on the internal storage too (at least, general use cases from what i understand)
To be honest, I think the Samsung ECO system is actually better. The galaxy buds are just as good if not better than the Airpods and Samsung collaboration with Microsoft makes the phone a lot more usable in almost any office. The iPhone is good if you spend a fortune for all the Apple products, where with Samsung you can use any Windows PC for reasonably good connectivity. I have to mention DEX which is now wireless. Unless you already have Macbook I think overall Samsung is the better option.
Well Jaime… the question is … which one you use as a daily now? Social apps, camera and content creation. It’s pretty easy answer for me, you got a case with your explanation with the S21u, but I will take the Iphone 13 Pro, for the all around better support for apps, the more consistent camera and better support in social apps like instagram, Facebook and TikTok. It’s a well rounded phone that have gotten all the flaws fixed as time goes by. Great videos as always Jaime!
The problem with your argument is that you focus on so few benefits, for each of these I could add two, three or more downsides and that even then some of these are just not true. Better support for apps .... maybe for some apps but others no and then there's the many apps just not available in the Apple app store; the camera is not more consistent, in fact Apple is usually behind and things like not having settings direct in the camera app is not acceptable; iPhones are less "well rounded" and has more flaws than comparable Android phones, look at the bugs on every Apple update and missing features that make them far from well rounded.
And the s22 ultra is just round the corner 😎 love my s21 ultra, first time in a long time ill have kept a phone for a full year, nothing has come close in my opinion. Can't wait for the next one.
Buying this many phones is really bad for the environment. I used my galaxy s7 edge since 2016 up until it broke and I switched to the S21 Ultra in January. And I plan to keep it for at least 3 years. There is really no reason to upgrade that often.
@@gavinderulo12 I don't throw my phones away 🤔 they go to someone else to use... And then someone else after that probably. Don't see what the issue is? @@gavinderulo12 exactly right. So the cycle has got to broken somewhere right? And I'm pretty sure the manufacturers aren't going slow down any time soon, it's been this way for the last couple decades now so I can't see it changing. I get your point.... But it would take major changes for this cycle to be altered. And hey, not everyone buys new phones every year, the majority of people don't. I do because I'm an enthusiast. There's people in the world doing much worse things than buying a new phone every 12 months.
I usually go between a Pixel and a Note every year...I have the S21 Ultra and Pixel 6 XL and I'm going to be sticking with the S21 Ultra because....wait for it...the camera. This is the first time I've ever preferred a Samsung Camera over a Pixel. The Pixel 6 XL is "fine" but nothing earth shattering...the only thing I miss from the Pixel is the Automatic Astrophotography mode.
Apple updated the iOS 15.2 to have a manual Macro toggle that pops up in the view finder now. And much as I agree with your review, I can’t help but notice you seem giddy to discuss whatever advantages you see in the Samsung over the iPhone. Both phones offer a top notch experience and whatever advantages the Samsung has in software is offset by the broader advantages of the Apple ecosystem, in my opinion at least.
I have the 12 pro max and note 20 ultra, Sim cards in both. My iPhone is the daily driver simply because it's more reliable and stable. iOS doesn't have maddening inconsistencies or software issues like my note does (My Note fingerprint scanner randomly decides to not work, the audio has bugged out and only come out of the earpiece at times, when I restart my Note Samsung pay immediately crashes and tells me to send error logs to Samsung, when connecting my galaxy buds to my Note there's almost 1s of audio latency, whereas Airpods to iPhone has less than 0.2seconds latency, etc) And in iOS, apps are just better written with fewer UI bugs and glitches. Apps crash less in iOS. For me, boring is a good thing. My time is too valuable to spend hours every day "customizing" or whatever nonsense android users keep drooling over. I will give credit where it's due though, Samsung has nailed the S pen experience, and its a shame the iPhone doesn't support Apple pencils. Samsung has better one-handed mode and multi tasking mode to make using their large phones functionally better.

It’s a cool parlor trick…one of those ‘your phone can’t do this, so it’s definitely better’ nonsense scenarios. Meh…pretty cool to use once or twice, I can’t deny it.
I was using s20 ultra before switching to iphone 12 pro max. Zoom cameras are amazing on samsung and, to be honest, you are not using it because you can’t. I am not say that it its necessity but it is a feature, not a gimmick. I was using it for zoomed shots, videos even because they are looking more cinematim, to read signs far away… Moon pics tho, yeah, you take like 5 of them and never do it again. Not saying that samsung is better…. As i said, I am using 12 pro max now and thing about upgrading to 13 pro soooo, judge for yourself. I just wanted to say that I miss those periscope cameras.
I remember I did that 18 months ago on my S20U and was amazed and have not done it since and simply no longer care. Gimmick comes to mind, marketing, a Samsung special?
I'm still using the Huawei P30 Pro which, if I remember correctly, was the first phone with a periscope camera, and I can honestly say that the novelty of the 50-100x zoom went away pretty quickly.
My wife has the S21U. I have the iPhone 13 PM. The zoom on her camera is unreal. Regular photos on my camera is much better. Her phone is at 15% battery by 9pm. My iphone still has 45% battery by 9pm. 5 years from now her Galaxy will no longer be supported by Samsung, laggy AF and not worth much in the used market. 5 years from now my iPhone 13 PM will still be supported by Apple, fast as day one and still worth something in the used market.
Honestly, the 1 reason keeping me with iOS and not android is because iPhone updates their phones for far longer, if I’m going to pay a grand for a phone I want updates for more than 2-3 years.
@@ethoshrimp8190 you mean iOS doesn’t give much #Useless updates as Android. iOS sends updates out in increments through out the year, so when you upgrade to a new phone, it doesn’t feel so foreign. That’s why android fanboys think iOS doesn’t upgrade much! Also, I remember (I believe ) Samsung or one of the other 10 billion android phones trying to compete with the iPhone alone had a feature called 3D photos. My buddy ranted and raved about how much 3D photos were going to take over. I saw him 2 or three months later and ask him how 3D photos were going and he said that he had only used it once or twice and that it’s boring! 🤷🏽♂️ LOL. Those are the kind of update features you get on android = useless BS to keep the android fanboys happy LOL😂
With Apple it's consistency which after a while also feels boring from user interface... Samsung on the other hand is very adventurous exploring new things all the time 🤠
You were on point about everything here except of one thing: the battery. The battery on the 13 Pro Max gives you 2 more hours of SOT which is significant when considering battery degradation. Even if you're not an extreme power user who needs 10.5 hours of SOT- over the next years, when users' S21s batteries degrade to lets say 6 hours of SOT, the iPhones are gonna degrade to about 8 hours of SOT, which is still very good.
Finally... Someone is telling the truth... Great Review as always... Waiting for S22 Ultra! (You can do split screen on S21 Ultra but you can't on iPhone which is way more expensive in India)

Hey guys, my kids and husband all have iPhones and want me to switch from my older Android solely because they can't facetime with me. I really want to upgrade to the S21 Ultra, and am wondering is there a work-around so that the Samsung can do Facetime with an apple phone??
Agreed! However, having said that, I wish Samsung would catch up with Apple in terms of updates and support. There's also global specs equivalency, which puts Samsung (at least with re to its laptops) way behind Apple. (I'm speaking from the impoverished Canadian perspective.) Anyway, because I value the housed s-pen experience, I won't be going S22 Plus but rather S22 Ultra, the best of both worlds: S21 Ultra-type and the Note.
The s21 series is receiving android 12 this month. I would say for Samsung and android oems that's really good. I just hope Samsung will finally make a monster cpu and only use that one for all their flagships. Hope the amd thing goes well.
@@HABO2210 good for you! What region? Also, I was referring to my Note20 Ultra. One UI 4.0 won't be available for it till January or February in Canada.
@@LaidBackDeveloper Chill. I'm talking about OneUI, not security updates. When 4 Beta was released, it was available to S21 Ultra exclusively. Final is now being rolled out only in various regions. The Note20 Ultra, not an ancient device by any means, is getting it (Beta) in various regions. In Canada, we're getting it in a few months (February, I believe). This doesn't happen with Apple and, to the best of my knowledge with Google's Pixel. Also, try buying a beefy Galaxy Book Pro in Canada. You can't find it with more than 8G Ram and 256 SSD. It's common knowledge that Canada, that place of "a few acres of snow", is not a priority for Samsung.
I have a normal s21 but damn , months later this phone is still fire and I'm ready for Android 12 that make you able to customize your phone to be more tailor made than ever and the ability to convert exes storage into ram plus the phone is durable af , fell of my bike on rocks , screen facing the rocks and I weigh 71kg and fell on my phone and the screen only had 1 visible scratch
Thank you for making a call, as to which phone you prefer. That can't be easy, given the great features on both. I'm an Android guy, so I'll most likely get the S22 Ultra when it comes out. But I am looking at all options. Thanks again.
I have been a Samsung user since s2 till s20+ being the last one, just recently bought the iPhone 13 pro max. I do realized a lot of flaws in the iPhone. It's isn't as good as iPhone enthusiasts hyped it to be. I would say video recordings is the only thing that the iPhone dominates. In terms of speeds and performances, I would say they are pretty much the same, the numbers in the benchmark test doesn't really matters, as the iPhone significantly outpowered all high end android devices but the ability to fully utilized it is not there, it's a device with a lot of limitations in terms what it can do if to compare with android devices but if you were were compare iphone with iPhone, the 11/12 and the 13 didn't really have a significant enough of differences, features or function to even have the need to upgrade and moving from high end Samsung flagship to iPhone really didn't hyped me up like ppl would buying a new phone. All the new features in the 13 are basically photography like cinematic mode where average ppl really don't even need, all ppl around me rarely even take videos let's not cinematic videos but on the other hand ppl uses their phone to do work related stuffs also relating to me so I prefer my phone to be more productive where I can work in situations where my laptop is not available whereas the Samsung device totally rock in this area. There are a lot of features that the iPhone do not have which I ended needing to keep the s20+ with me on a day to day basis. There are no features on the iPhone 13 pro max that made it significant enough to make me think it's a better device. I gave the iPhone a chance because I have been skeptical about it for a long time. I would say both devices is capable but in terms of which one really ease up your daily tasks would be the Samsung. The only problem that pissed me off with Samsung devices is they heat up easily when running really hardware stressed processes. In terms of design and quality, both stand out pretty good. If I were to be able to choose again, I should have sticked with android.
I much prefer the iPhone over the Samsung, and I used to own only Samsung’s. The battery life on the iPhone obliterates the Samsung, the performance is better, the software updates are timely and the phone is still fast after a year of ownership while the Samsung slows down to a crawl. The extra features that the Samsung has are in my opinion gimmicks, I literally never used them when I had them. Plus if I actually need a bigger screen to work on things I have a laptop. Brand new and on paper the Samsung wins, in real life usage, iPhone wins.
Not all the time you have to bring a real camera. If a coincidence happen when the moon appearance seem to be great to take shot and you are outside far away from home, that is the chance you can pull out your s 21 ultra out of your pocket and get a beautiful moon shot. You don’t have to go back home to get a real camera since the s 21 ultra can handle the moon shot near perfection.
Argument: Samsung rolls out updates late. Counter-arguments: 1. In the days of the S5, Samsung was almost 1 year behind Android versions. Now, it's only 3 months. 2. Even with the "late" updates to the OneUI Android, Samsung had/has features in OneUI that the latest Android never has and comes in later of its updates.
The question is do you use all those extra features Samsung has? I’ve used android for 13 years and always told my friends I got so many features in my phone but in real life I never used them. I switched to iPhone after 13 years and I am not regretting it. Apps look more polished and smooth. After iPhone android just feels cheaper. I can’t believe am the same guy who was all about android phones but I have to say iPhone 13 pro max Is the best phone in 2022 for me.
I stopped listening when he said they have comparable battery life. When we already know 13 Pro Max is undefeated in battery life. He is clearly an android sheep And also nothing can be compared to the beast that is A15
Your definition of battery life is a benchmark down to minutes difference. Maybe iphone gets 20% better but so what? You still have to charge it everyday for advanced user.
@@miraniseini2931 maybe I was not clear. Don't look at benchmark battery comparison. Look at practicality. S21 battery is enough for heaviest daily use. So iphone has 2 hours more leftover. But you still have to charge it daily otherwise you won't have enough for next day. So it doesn't make any difference in terms of battery.
@@mib-cb3mu Oh ok, so you are saying 10/12 hours of battery life is unnecessary, yeah I get it it’s a pretty logical thinking. I wonder though if it was Samsung that did it, how would you react and bash Apple for it
@@miraniseini2931 Does it affect you in any way? All I am saying you still need to charge daily if you are heavy user. You made it sound like battery is life and death. Truly, when are you away from power source for extended time? You can always bring along a power bank. You are like those apple fans making a big deal out of battery life just like benchmark score. For most people as long as battery can last a day that is good enough. Just like benchmark, what is the point of higher score when the phone having 50% lower still perform as good. Same with camera. I see a lot of comparisons online, they have to zoom in a lot and micro analyse to distinguish a winner. That much ado about nothing as many just look at photos on their phone and not on a 8k 100inch monitor. However, there are certain advantages that cannot be overlooked like multi-window, or folded screen, or ecosystem that may not have workarounds or substitutes.
Good assesment of the two phones Jaime, both have good features , although I am an old galaxy boy (still have and use my note 9) , I also own a 12 pro max , and the big wide flat screen is a preferred option for me with the flagship phones. I like them both , but I would love to see these big bangers having SD card and headphone jack though.
See the thing is about Android in general..... you can easily connect a thumb drive or hard drive to it with the USB C input. If you're honestly recording that much directly onto your device and never transferring it then you sir are the true champ.
@@jaymac4448 I do photography on a mirrorless camera. I used to take the SD card and put it in my phone. Simple, nice and easy. There's no reason why to lose the SD support.
Does anyone consider any iPhone to be suitable for one handed operation? I have a small iPhone for work and a much larger Android for my personal phone. The OS navigation conventions make it possible to use the Android one handed most of the time, the much smaller iPhone though uses a 3-point navigation model that pretty much precludes one handed operation. Rather than having the navigation at the bottom like Android the iPhone (which still has a home button) breaks this navigation up between the home button, a back button in the upper left of some apps or a cancel in the upper right of others makes it difficult to use one handed. I’m sure I’m probably just holding it wrong…
Iphine ui navigation is complete inconsistent mess. I am using one-handed operation+ and I can use my galaxy fold 3 one handed (by having all navigation gestures from the right edge). You can't even use iphone pro (let alone pro max) one handed due to the crazy positioning of top left back. Most stupid design which haven't been addressed by apple for ages.
@@Pocketnow I'm not sure I follow. I'm not an iPhone fan, i find it to be a frustrating experience overall but the software is what makes it difficult to use one handed which i find baffling on a smaller phone. I'd expect a larger screen to just exacerbate the issue.
Had the s21 ultra for almost a year excellent phone but just upgraded to the iPhone 13 Pro max and its a beast!got bored of customization and having to go through adb commands to tweak everything to get better battery life became a pain in the a**!as it didn't usually last the day!camera button always lagging too!with this iPhone it just works no lag on shutter, better smoother animations, faster updates if any issues (although Samsung better these days!) And the battery is amazing you can do whatever on the pro max 13 gaming or whatever will definitely last the day and moderate use lasts 1 and half!and video is definitely better and camera in my opinion!I'm no fan fanboy of any but guess each has own and different needs in a phone!Good review 👍🏻
Why don't apple allow icon packs ...and a better way to customize there phone shit they will make a shitload of money on it I get they like to keep simplicity that's fine but for the people that don't give him the opportunity to
Why did you call these phones "investments"? We SPEND money when we buy them, not "invest" it. It's not like we get the money back from using our phones.
Some of us might have businesses that we make money from (spreadsheets, uploading UA-cam videos, making calls for networking, email a client, etc). At least that’s how I interpret it.
The S22 Ultra is my next phone and they are putting the same camera hardware as the S21 Ultra in the S22 Ultra im totally fine with that those cameras are amazing they just have to tune them up with software and best overall camera system on a smartphone especially with that zoom quality even at 30x
Yes, just some software updates and they will be great. Certainly will not leap ahead of the competition and def Samsung no longer a leader, but Top 5 for sure in camera. The S22 line looks like a very "S" year upgrade, in fact this is the second S year as the s21 was the same as the S20 apart from s-pen and fixing the cameras. Samsung fans seem to think changing the camera array is a new design, reality just a marketing trick for YT creators to hype on about!
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN I never use an SD card but I understand that there is a niche market that wants it. Sadly LG kept it and no one bought their phones and Sony is the last man standing selling flagships with an SD card and sales are less than one million. Very nice review and comparison between the IPhone 13 Pro and S21 Ultra. The pictures really look great and getting either 1 of these will serve you very very well.
No, they are not fragmented, sure, not all features didn't make it to the older iPhone's like the 2017 iPhones and older (which by the way is nearing the half a decade mark) because the chip doesn't have the Machine Learnign capability, but most does, and that's why IOS differs from Android
Exactly the reason I kept my LG V60 for another year and maybe another seeing LG is giving Android 12 and 13 on top of 11. And that sweet internal DAC I can drive my expensive cans to they're full potential. It's the truth. Don't knock the UI , since 11 I love it more than one UI on my phones . It's gorgeous.

Though I agree with you partially , respectfully I think you are down the playing importance of OS updates

Memory expansion? I haven't put a memory card in a phone since the Note 3
Samsung and all other mobile OEMs have access to anecdotal data such as my own use scenario and on a massive scale. They KNOW that the audio jack and memory expansion are not in any way a thing that people really care about on a phone. Samsung especially being the world's leading retailer of expandable storage cards they actually MAKE money from more phones having the option.

I can play that on my older LG v60 with the 865 with no problem. Must be the system optimization on the tablet.
The iPhone looks like a child's toy. Oh and the notch has to be the most idiotic thing I've ever seen.
Good review. Some tech reviewers seem to give their verdict based on brand and not actual features nor performance of the phones, so it is nice to see one review that is objective.
Exactly
The main reason I like samsung is those 3 little buttons at the bottom. I hate searching for the back button on ios
Actually one handed mode on the ultra makes it very usable with one hand. Not to mention you can resize and reposition the minimized view to exactly your needs. Far better than reachability mode on the iphone.
hi how are you S.
i just wish the s21's camera look just as good in third party apps.
Google pixel my friend

@@mjwontstop MOST people don't hate iPhones is what I see
I always find it amazing that intelligent reviewers who can pronounce words that contain more than two syllables always seem to choose Android.
@@andyH_England wrong dex and multiwindow way better
Stagnant? What other phone offers ProRes recording right now as just one example
I agree with everything Jamie said on this non-biased comparison/review
one feature I've been using a lot that reviewers hardly seem to talk about is DEX.
That's cool 😎
Nice!
It was pretty biased lol
I agree on that. I currently have the s10+ with a curved screen and I am switching to the 13 pro max soon because I prefer a flat display

S21 ultra got all the bells and whistles, but it just feels too large. Wish Samsung made a S21-sized phone with almost all the features that the ultra has
the thing is, the ultra is a statement, its supposed to be the biggest and baddest phone you can get
The lawyer where I work at had a Galaxy S10+, after which he bought an iPhone 12 Pro, believe it or not after just 15 days he sold the iPhone and now he bought a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra he says for multitasking the iPhone was garbage and for some reason only displayed the most recent calls, meaning all the previous calls from clients he didn't save were gone. And he said the notch was stupid and the phone was difficult to use.
One thing that moved me away from apple is the lack of multitasking support. Seriously, the 12 Pro Max (and 13) is extremely large, and not having splitscreen multitasking just makes me questions why the larger models exist.
Perfectly said
They exist for older people like me that prefer a bigger screen to aid our tired eyes!

It's common knowledge that Canada, that place of "a few acres of snow", is not a priority for Samsung.
Man, the way you talk in front of camera, from my perspective you are a gigantic marketer! Congratulations!
Saying that iPhone has catch Samsung up is the same as saying Bugatti has catched KIA up.
Your son is a spitting image of you! 8:40
The family genetics are strong!
I like the fact that he touched on the sound of the calls on each phone, a lot of reviewers don't touch on call quality at all....Thank You Sir
8:14 It's interesting that people who review phones still haven't figured out how to use the exposure slider when taking photos of the moon.
Was a really stupid nit picking point from Jaime if I'm honest. Who takes pictures of the moon with a phone anyway!
S21 Ultra is an incredibly good phone. Time only made it look more obvious how good it is. I wonder how good will the S22 Ultra be...
Got my Android 12 a month later ❤
Samsung is so ahead in a lot of things compared to Apple and Google these days.
ahh righttttt yeah please list them then?
@@glennpalmer1067 watch the video
@@glennpalmer1067 it's explained in the video
except it’s not lol, this reviewer just has a bias like he said
@@STNJ_YT his points are not strong, and many are forced.
He is clearly an android sheep
And also nothing can be compared to the beast that is A15
Your definition of battery life is a benchmark down to minutes difference. Maybe iphone gets 20% better but so what? You still have to charge it everyday for advanced user.
@@mib-cb3mu the iPhone has easily 2 hours more battery life, it’s not down to minutes
Samsung Has So many features Tgat apple cant think of
Good assesment of the two phones Jaime, both have good features , although I am an old galaxy boy (still have and use my note 9) , I also own a 12 pro max , and the big wide flat screen is a preferred option for me with the flagship phones.
I like them both , but I would love to see these big bangers having SD card and headphone jack though.
that will not happen cause of their airpods and earbuds.
Should still have SD card support though
@@Buzza235 exactly stupid to have 8K video and only be able to store 2 3/4 hrs and only if you don't download any apps or photos
13 Pro is the sweet spot. Mini for anyone with small hands.
You can enjoy whatever you want (:
Exactly, I have been an android user for years. But it always catch my attention that iPhones are better. Someone said Don’t be fooled in spec sheets
Where did you get that live wallpaper on Samsung?
The S21 features shows that Apple 13 Pro Max still has a lot of work to do. I would get both phones though, as both provide a good experience.
but if u had to choose .. which one you will pick?
Why don't apple allow icon packs ...and a better way to customize there phone shit they will make a shitload of money on it I get they like to keep simplicity that's fine but for the people that don't give him the opportunity to
S21 ultra's zoom is the reason of why I'm still having fun and no regrets
Except they really need SD Card Slot and good that S Pen can charge right on phone
@@andyH_England well space Zoom is a bit of a gimmick and SD Card Slot is definitely needed
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN I never use an SD card but I understand that there is a niche market that wants it. Sadly LG kept it and no one bought their phones and Sony is the last man standing selling flagships with an SD card and sales are less than one million. It does appear that the core consumer market for flagships does not really care?
Was the iphone format in high efficiency or most compatible thanks
Very nice review and comparison between the IPhone 13 Pro and S21 Ultra.
The pictures really look great and getting either 1 of these will serve you very very well.
Apple iPhone is also fragmented as well. The features offered on newer iPhones don't always go to the older phones.
No, they are not fragmented, sure, not all features didn't make it to the older iPhone's like the 2017 iPhones and older (which by the way is nearing the half a decade mark) because the chip doesn't have the Machine Learnign capability, but most does, and that's why IOS differs from Android
Yes, S21 Ultra is the better of the 2. Shame it doesn't come with microsd card.
You didn't show the 8k on s21 ultra
