    Thanks Dagogo. Great video. I ordered a new Roadster straight away, people ask 'why don't you buy their stock?'. Well when you buy a stock you aren't directly helping the company. Buying their products is the way to directly inject economic energy and push this thing forward. Can't wait to get it - come over to the USA and you can come for a ride and do a review first hand. Keep up the great work.

      Not quite. If actually buying Tesla's was most important they would be out of business by now since they haven't sold enough to turn a profit but for a couple quarters in 10 years. This is where "faith" i.e. investors and the just rewards - or losses come in; without them you have no Tesla. Tesla already made some 1%-er cars, we need them to nail the M3 and that's what you should be buying - not some foo foo car that helps literally no one, RoadsterV1 already did that.🏎

    • @Goldsilver
      @Goldsilver 6 років тому +94

      I bought 2 original 'foo foo' Roadsters (the car that changed the playing field for EVs), 1 Model S, and have 2 Model 3 reservations, now a 'foo foo' New Roadster reservation as well. The latter will be responsible for the final nail in the argument of fossil fuel vs electric. I've bought enough now, thanks for the advice but I'm more than capable of choosing where I direct my own economic energy.

      It's faster to 60, but there's a lot of things we don't know. Is it faster beyond 60? (electric cars power fades at higher speed). We don't know how heavy it is with that huge battery. We don't know if the handling will be anything like as good as current sports cars.
      It looks cool, I'm sold on the design. The sound though will be disappointing in a sports car I think. But I keep an open mind.
      The main point I wanted to make though is judge it after it's been driven as a sports car by someone like Chris Harris. Right now, to me it's not yet a sports car. It's a nice looking car which is fast to 60mph. Way too many people have a massive boner over its 0-60. Being fast to 60 alone does not make it automatically a great, or even good sports car. I'm reserving judgement until I've seen it be properly driven by Pro drivers. Only then after demonstrating it's capabilities and fun factor, can it gain the title of sports car.

      Leonardo Mahalo yeah, so we keep hearing. That's good if you only want to drag race it all day. But you won't be drag racing it all day either, because it needs time to cool down after every single one of those 0-60 pulls, and the battery will be drained very quickly driving it like that.

    One thing you failed to mention that might be interesting as well: Top fuel dragsters basically need engine revision after every run, making them super-high maintenance while the tesla is more or less maintenance free in comparison.
    Amazing video nontheless, thank you so much for your work.

      Speediotsrams, it's because of they are IC - internal combustion. They dissipate lot heat, causing more friction, so more maintenance.
      Also EV mechanism is very simple (mechanically) with very few moving parts also reducing much friction and maintenance.

    • @elijahmartin5291
      @elijahmartin5291 6 років тому +2

      top fuel draggsters and consumer cars are vastly different though. you cant compare the two. dragsters can go well over 300mph and can do this because they are literally ripping themselves apart. currently, and probaly not for a couple decades, electric cars wont be able to match the speed and acceleration of a top fuel dragster.
      it would be more appropriate to compare this car and its maintinance to normal i.c.e. supercars. (which have problems but only after 10s of thousands of miles on the car)

    There is some serious Tesla-bashing going on and from the perspective of many industries, it is to be expected. Some businesses want to get rid of the rather market-disruptive Tesla. So they come up with things like taking real problems from Tesla and blow them out of proportion. If that isn't enough, they will simply make up a story. Like TopGear did with the first Tesla Roadster.
    If I could speak to all the CEO's from different manufacturers of auto-companies, I would recommend them to INVEST in Tesla, or at least in their own electric cars, rather than trying to bring Tesla down. Why? Because in the end the electric car will replace all other cars. They will. Tesla already proved that point. So instead of trying to downsize Tesla and electric cars in general, turn that ship around and spend all money on either research, or collaboration with Tesla. Daimler did, and it got them Tesla technology. The Renault Group (with Nissan) are trying their own game and it seems to be working well.
    Other manufacturers are slowly getting into electric cars, but most if not all of them make real money out of ICE cars. But ICE cars are a dying breed, it is done, it is over. It is a matter of time until no ICE car will be sold, ever. So better to embrace the technology with or without Tesla, but throwing millions to keep up the old business-model is not going to work. It is like the last horse-coach-factory wants to stop automobiles to be sold. It is rather silly if you think of it.
    I drive electric cars since 2012 and I own three of them now. It works for me, it works for my family. I do not have to deal with endless repairs and maintenance. The only thing that would cost me much will be the replacements of the battery-pack. But that is not even half the price of keeping an ICE on the road.
    The new tesla Roadster is not a car.
    It is a statement.
    ( I wonder if Musk will let TopGear get to review the new Roadster)

    • @samguapo4573
      @samguapo4573 6 років тому +6

      Telsa is not all its cracked up to be. Elon still hasn't turned a profit yet. Lithium batteries will be a dead technology in a few years with solid state batteries finally becoming a reality. Lithium battery cars have comparable carbon footprints to combustion engines when you look at the full life cycle of the car and battery mostly because of the extremely dirty and extensive mining operations required for the metals like lithium and cobalt. The price of a Tesla car will rise drastically once the government subsidies for them end. Elon and his giga factory will be making the most expensive lithium batteries in the world when compared to the other battery manufactures. The hyperloop will never return a single dollar if it is built. The list goes on but I think I put up enough for now. Elon is just a really good salesman who scored big at winning government funding. He is not some kind of savior of humanity lol.

    • @samguapo4573
      @samguapo4573 6 років тому +8

      @michael vinson. You are only partly right. Either based on perspective, or based on fact.
      I agree with you that it would be great to have solid state batteries that will be a standard consumer battery someday. However, what makes you think that Elon won't be the first one to adjust with that situation. I will agree if he doesn't have the patent. Even if SSD's are going to be available, the Lithium batteries made by panasonic-tesla is already way cheaper than all the other manufacturers. I buy mine from China and its really cheap. Tesla's is even cheaper but they don't sell it as OEM.
      Lifecycle analysis? Dirty coal from the plant providing EV power vs. Gas at pump for comparable ICE distance is comparable in "carbon". However, gas at stations don't even count extraction, processing, distribution, shipping, et al. In fairness, we haven't counted coal mining. Which is LESS carbon and power intensive as gas. You need an equal amount of power to process an equal amount of gas meaning around 9000-12000watts of fractionalizing to generate a liter of gas. (a liter of gas is around 9000watt of power).
      Extraction? Lithium is less mined and more shoveled and pumped. Seriously, if the saudis and israelis are serious, they can also sell it as by product from desalination plants.
      Cobalt is a by product of nickel and copper (and some other metals) production.

    Great video as usual. The Roadster is an impressive car, particularly the millage, over 1000ks on a single charge. But the thing is that most people tend to mix up acceleration with how fast a car can perform. Acceleration only determines how quick a car is from a standstill. There are other factors to consider like the power to weight ratio, how many Gs the car can take etc. The Porche 918 Spider might have a slower acceleration but it can/may still beat the Roadster on a race track. We don't know how heavy the Roadster is so it's best not to make comparisons about how fast it is compared to other cars. Great video again

      Rimac is a fringe car maker. Tesla is a niche manufacturer. They can't outperform the big ones. Once Porsche, GM, Audi, Aston Martin, Mercedes, BMW etc get on the game, Tesla is pretty much done. The Model S really created a new market segment. Model 3 doesn't; and there are better players out there than Tesla. Let's not forget: Tesla has inferior batteries, they pay more for their batteries than their competition, miserable fit and finish, it's more like a 60k car costing 100k+. The Gigafactory is already outdated once battery technology moves on. We have no sign of a Gen 2 Model S. I wonder not. Yet, I love the Teslas and they are exactly what I'd expect a car to be. I'm not a fan boy, I just like to deal with reality. That's why I am not preordering my Model 3. I'm waiting. There will be better cars available.

      He not talk about present, but plans and future, and in this kind of video you should only focus on it, because this Model 3 problem may be even today pass (info for customers to select they model 3 options and delivery in 4 weeks). If he relate current problem with possible long term problems, it be ok, be he don't do it.
      But for me current problems in production of Model 3 are only good sign for future, because they learn next new thing.

      G H Doesn't matter, other manufacturers focus on BOTH straight line speed and ability to be tracked. In terms of engineering it's far more impressive having a car go around tracks and in a straight line very fast.
      Stop making excuses, your mentality is limiting actual constructive criticism of Tesla as a brand. That's a very unhealthy attitude that doesn't benefit Tesla at all, wake up, Tesla is FAR FROM PERFECT.
      95% of Ferrari and Lamborghini buyers don't track their cars, but Ferrari still focuses on that performance metric because IT'S A CHALLENGE and give the brand a MORE IMPRESSIVE IMAGE.

With the advertised "200" kWh battery (unless we see leaps and bounds of improvement of battery tech over the next few years), the car is almost guaranteed to be much heavier than a traditional super car.

    I wanna start this comment with a positive critic. The Tesla Roadster isn't just a distraction strategy for investors to not run away. The developement of a new Automotive model takes 3-6 YEARS. So it is save to assume that the Roadster II is around for some time.
    I also really like the design of this car. The Model S was always an ok-car. I didn't hate it at all, but it also didn't blew me away. The Roadster II however is very sexy. I like it a lot.
    But besides that.. Gosh, I'm really dissapointed by the way you make these videos about Tesla and how biased they are. I for myself own Tesla stocks and stand behind the company, but this channel seems more like a promotion for Tesla (and especially Elon Musk) than anything else.
    To me it seems like nobody is really questioning the numbers Tesla has put out, in fact almost all people take them for granted. For example one of the limiting factors for Acceleration and Topspeed is the wheels and the tyre. In order to reach 60mph or even 62mph(exactly 100kmh) in 1,9 sec as Elon Musk has claimed, there needs to be a new (street)-tyre developed that can performe this task. There are already racing cars that can go 0-100kmh in less than 1,9 but as mentioned, they use specific non-street-legal tyres that get replaced after MINUTES.
    So either Tesla got a nice deal with a big tyre manufacturer like Michelin (they produce the tyres of the Bugatti Veyron and Chiron) or those numbers are rather "optimistic" *just like the production numbers of the Model 3*
    The part where you compared the Roadster to other vehicles, like the Porsche 918, McLaren P1 and Lamborghini Aventador made me very furious. This comparison does not make much sense, because the 918, P1 and Aventador are performance vehicles for the track. They are the pinacle of Racecar Engineering and can put astonishing Numbers on any Racetrack in the world. You could compare them to the Dodge Challanger Daemon and conclude that the Daemon is the best, because it has a better 0-100 time and costs less, but if you compare them on the track, the Daemon has no chance against any sports car.
    I just can conclude that the same applys to the Tesla Roadster.
    Many People might not know, but there already *is* a proper electric Sports Car and it is even manufactured in Croatia.
    The Rimac Concept_One. In fact you should really do a video on that car too! It is really amazing what these Croatians are doing.
    cost: 1Million $
    0-100kmh: 2,5sec
    top speed: 365kmh
    Power Output: ~1380HP,
    Tourque: 1,600NM
    But now here are the IMPORTANT Numbers:
    Battery: 91kWh. That's less than half the kWh that the Roadster II(200kWh)
    Weight: 1900kg
    This car performs very good against competition like Bugatti or Koenigsegg. They're all very good for Topspeed and acceleration, but when it comes to cornering their immersive weight hinders is their biggest enemy. That's also why a car that costs less than 1/10th of the Bugatti or the Koenigsegg can outrun them on the Nürburg Ring.
    And now Tesla enters the playfield with a car that has double the battery. We can give Tesla the benefit of the doubt that their battery pack is significantly better than the one of the Rimac Concept_One. Actually we have to, but I will come to that in a moment.
    The next thing is cutting costs. As we have seen, the Roadster has, like the Model 3, a very minimalistic interior. I suppose this is purely for cost. The next thing that cuts cost is the Chassis. It will be simply made out of metal. Carbon fiber would be simply too expensive and I also haven't found any source suggesting that.
    Now, Rimac is not just anybody, the company knows what they're doing and their Batteries are in fact so good, that even other manufacturers buy parts from them rather than Tesla (e.g. Koenigsegg and Aston Martin).
    Now either Tesla has somehow managed to build their battery pack so light, that it can even compensate for the extra weight of the metal body, or the Tesla Roadster will weight significantly more than the Rimac.
    I guess that the Batteries will continue to improve till 2020 and be even lighter than before, but the Roadster will most probably weight more than the Rimac.
    And I haven't even started on the suspension of the vehicle... If the Roadster will feature the pneumatic system like the Model S, it may be great for a comfortable ride even at high speeds, but it is not very performance oriented.
    Also I haven't taken heat into account... The early Performance Model S cars had the problem of overheating electric MOTORS. Idk if these Problems are now improved, however this comment is already way too long so to end it here my conclusion:
    Instead of comparing the roadster to 1-2 Million $ Cars ask how Tesla could achieve this.
    Be more critical, more investigative

      Excellent observations the information that's missing is what kind of brakes and tires are being used to deal with that speed and acceleration.

      First off, very long comment.
      Second off, a concept vehicle? Pretty sure the Roadster 2.0 is a production vehicle not a concept vehicle.
      Third off, i'm positive the person in this video was just comparing 0-60mph times & prices strictly & not track times & drag races.

      When you've got that much money, it's not difficult to bring in experts in whatever field you want, and accomplish quite a lot. He's just a very rich computer geek, not some mystical superhuman entity like the worshippers like to make out.
      Teslas are souped up golf carts. Electricity itself was a great discovery. IC engines with their complexity were an amazing invention. A conventional car body and chassis with electric motors instead of an engine are neither a discovery or an invention.
      I'm not trying to diss electric cars, I'm just saying that there's nothing amazing about them. Elon Musk hasn't gone and done something that any other car manufacturer in existence couldn't have done had they wanted to.
