The reason for the big hair is to make us associate with OG SSJ2 Gohan. We all know that Gohans character was straight downhill ever since the Cell fight. He had temporary coolness bump with ultimate Gohan but it was short lived and that's why they brought it back in ToP. It still did nothing for him, so they wanted to make him look like teen Gohan. The only way that happens with a taller body is bigger hair. This is a blatent attempt to make him reminiscent of TEEN SSJ2 because that was the peak of his character and we all know it.

I so utterly hate the official hair design. It's like if you took the SSJ hair and went waaay too far with how long it should be. I was hoping the manga would be a chance to edit the design a little, shorten the hair to more non-ridiculous lengths. But whatever I guess. Hope in this case Gohan gets a new form soon, lol.

The Gamas have to be at least at the level Goku SSB was starting the tournament Arc, as Gamma 1 was fighting on equal terms with Ultimate Gohan, who was already shown to be SSB blue level (and even Kefla level on the manga)
About Krillin. Yeah he is fodder. But the destructo disk technique was already shown to be able to cut through anything, no matter how big is the power gap. I dont have a problem with the disk causing damage to cell max. But I do have a problem with Krillin taking a direct punch from him and surviving lol.

@@princedewin Gohan was SSB level. Goku needed to go kaioken on top of SSB to win. And as I said, Gohan takes out Kefla on the Manga version. Kefla who was beating Goku SSB on the anime and had to go UI to heat her.
I love close up shot beast Gohan's eye turned red during his transformation but overall the manga is alot better than the movie were getting more of orange piccolo too and etc
Animation style plays a big part in the end result. That's why the manga seems so much better than the movie.

number 1 thing i always hated about dragon ball aside from its horrid power scaling is how these characters continuously get stronger yet the animation never adjusts to showcase it

The moment he snapped in the movie bc of piccolo's supposed death, I was asking myself why any of the characters even care about it, since they have the dragonballs.
There is little to no reason to snap because of that, there is almost nothing at stake here.
As you mentioned, Pan would be a better fit for that role (perhaps even death), because even if you could revive her with the dragonballs, it would still be horrible for a child to experience.
Gohan Beast mode and Angry Orange Piccolo were never done right. It was just a lazy way to make 2 side-lined characters to magically catch up to God level Vegeta and Goku.

SSJ Blue is actually more explained in the anime than SSJ God is, Mastar….
“SSJ Blue” happens when a Base Saiyan keeps his aura hidden inside their bodies to maximize their strength and keep their opponents in the dark, and THEN power up to Super Saiyan, WHILE doing all of that.

That's not true after the rof movie. It's actually almost as big of a drain as ss3. You don't need to be calm to use SSB anymore either, it gets stronger with rage. They were using ssg then transforming to ssb during attacks to not revert from the drain

Like im pretty sure they did that in the goku black arc, so like, by default, that means you DON'T need perfect ki control, you can use it without its just less strong, but in the anime they have no such problems.

3:27 I won't lie that plume of smoke did the manga some favors for a moment. Cutting to that had me think did they actually kill Piccolo for a bit, selling Gohan's reaction even more.

Well the anime version came first so with the manga they have the ability to improve on the story and flesh it out. Also, I think the reason they add the recent movies and retell them in the manga is because new people picking the manga up need to know what happens. Theres probably people out there that ONLY read the manga also.

In Xenoverse 2, the beast transformation is available for all races, meaning its more of a technique that anyone could learn, similar to what ultra instinct is. So that's at least SOME extra bit of knowledge about Beast

Disagree. The only thing the manga did better was having the other Z fighters actually contribute by having them clip Cell's wings. (which surprised me because Toyo typically sucks when it comes to side characters compared to Toei) The Beast Gohan stuff specifically was better in the movie since the manga cut the scene of Piccolo being held above Cell's head defeated. I think this choice was more fitting for a giant battle. Gohan didn't even see the results of the beating and transformed just because here. 🤷♂Also it doesn't make sense that Gamma 2's barrier would even save Piccolo. It only covered a small portion of his giant form. Might as well have had him just outright survive like in the movie.
Gamma 2 is dead. The one who saved Piccolo was Gamma 1

This is a perfect time to introduce Cooler. It's been way overdue.
To me the whole scene where Gohan charges while Piccolo tries to hold off and immobilize Cell Max actually reminds me of Goku fighting Raditz, trying to immobilize him while Piccolo charges the same move.
Also they remade the movie into a Manga despite alot of confusion and annoyance for the Japanese audience, because unlike the west, the Superhero movie flopped hard in Japan and nearly no one saw it.
Another reason the movie shouldn't have been CG. Super Hero is still my least favorite official DB thing, but I'd be a fool for not acknowledging Toyotaro's amazing artwork. His skills have improved so much.

I feel this hair length should have been the ssj3 design as it’s a very big gap between the lengths of ssj2 and 3.
One thing I always loved from Toyotarou is the way he draw aura. The aura never strays too far from the body and it has consistent textures depending on the transformation. Toei's interpretation if the aura feels way too crowded. It looked unique in Battle of Gods, but when EVERY SINGLE AURA in the series is a derivation from that Super Saiyan God aura, it just feels bland. Another point Toyotarou does incredibly well is the impact shots. Every single punch just looks stronger. Both of these points are what I believe made the manga version of Super Hero feel more enjoyable than the movie version.
You know what I just realized. Every time Gohan gets a new form, its name is never said in-universe. Super Saiyan 2 didn't get named dropped until the Majin Buu saga by Goku long after Gohan unlocked it, his Ultimate or Mystic form is never name dropped in the anime or manga, just described as his hidden potential unleashed, and now Beast Gohan.

Talking about your opinion on how the Manga can do things better, I wanna chime in. Not to say I disagree, but I actually do agree with the mindset. There are some things that work better drawn on paper and some things work better in animation. That's just how media works at times. The plus side of that I think is that they both offer thier own unique perspective to the consumer.

It’s…it’s literally the same exact thing. Gamma 1, Krillin and 18 did a bit more, but Gohan is literally shot for shot the same.
I always saw Beast as something Gohan achieved by diving back into his primal rage, but now fusing it with his Mystic Form. Because Mystic never saw Gohan get super mad. He was still a bit naive, cocky and goofy at times, yes, but he could control himself. We never saw Gohan go out of control again.
But upon seeing Piccolo get beat up, Gohan, who was at the top of his potential, snapped, and the ceiling of power he had already reached skyrocketed. And thanks to the Mystic form's ability to realize one's potential, said ceiling was fulfilled again. As such, Gohan is always fighting at 100% of his potential, Beast just shot said potential way up, yet Gohan can still control himself because he grew as an adult.
Basically, you can say Beast is the Kaioshin/magical version of Broly's Ikari/Legendary state. Both make us of the user's rage.

I've taken it as Beast Form and Mystic form are related in the same way SSJB and SSJG are related in that the new form builds on the previous height of their power by infusing it with previous techniques (rage boost/SSJ2 for Gohan and SSJ for Goku and Vegeta)

They should just make Gohan the new protagonist. And you might say oh well Gohan does not want to be a fighter or the hero. But that's what makes him a great character. While Goku accepts his destiny and loves fighting, Gohan is the reluctant hero, who has great power thrusted upon him.

What makes no sense in this fight is that Gohan beast is wayyyy stronger than Cell max, and I don't get why he has to power up for so long to kill him. Cell max can't even hurt him, so he could just have destroyed him within second by punching him.

Doesn’t the granola arc takes place just a couple of months after the tournament of power? Doesn’t the Super Hero Movie takes place a couple of weeks or months before the End of Z? Isn’t there a 4 year time gap between Super and the End of Z? Did the manga just randomly skipped 4 years in the future after Black Frieza appeared?
The DB timeline is so weird
Super hero is basically 2 - 3 years after the granolah arc. And the end of Z will be about 6 months to a year after that based on our vague idea of a timeline weve been given. But idk if youve noticed theoughout all of super their are random gaps of a year every now and then that dont get much attention.

Black Frieza appears, one shots Goku and Vegeta and after that they just skip 3-4 years in the future without any reason

Honestly, I don’t mind. In fact I prefer this over what they did in Resurrection F. You can’t hold on to Goku forever after all.
I want to believe that the hair length is what a ssj adult Gohan would look like if his hair would of stayed longer like in his toddler days haha, and somehow this form borrows the hair from his youth… that’s how I cope with the hair and it makes it seem more cool 😅
