  • How to make patio decking using free wooden pallet? How about a decked area for your garden, either a highly professional looking deck created through a lot of precise cutting, sanding and hard work, one that that no one would know was made from pallets, or a more quirky, rustic style that shows the different and unique tones of the wood collected from multiple pallets.

Starting with a design and plan for what you want to achieve is the first step to getting that perfect deck. If you are going for quirky and unique, go for a selection of different pallets, ideally the same size, but in a range of colours, tones and woods. Pallet identification marks, stamps and writing on the timber can add to the character of the finished deck.
If large businesses are happy for you to take pallets, they may ask for a small token payment of a pound or so per pallet or may be happy for you to take them off their hands for free. A standard pallet is 40 x 48 inches (that’s roughly 100cm x 120cm) but there are many variations available that have been designed to suit different manufacturing purposes. But ultimately, pallets, also known as Skids, are designed with forklifts and pallet jacks in mind and make automated warehouses work to maximum efficiency. Pallets have played a massive role in the growth of transportation of goods over the last century and nearly 500 million new pallets are made every year and there can be anywhere up to three billion wood pallets in circulation within the European Union.

Step one, purchase thousands, if not 10s of thousands of pounds worth of tools and machinery. Step two gain years of experience in joinery. Amazing video but it highlights why people just pay to have it done. We all pay, one way or another, we all pay. 👍🏾

Everything looked great until you started using high tech lumber tools; which I don't own. Can you provide another way to clean off those boards? Thank you

Easy cheap .......right get a woodshop first then I'm all set for the cheap project .........only thing cheap is the pallets the equipment you used is not cheap at all ......now if you hand sanded each piece I'd give you credit but not on this 1 buddy ....Shame on you 😢

    but love it

Looks good but sorry to say, it won't hold long. This low quality wood and not very thick and wont hold the weight of adults. Plus the brad nails are only for holding the board temporarily.

Beautiful work, thanks for showing the process of "harvesting" useable decking lengths from the pallets. I have been thinking how to do something similar for my tiny home. Question, though...it looks like some of the pallets are resting on dirt rather than gravel or cement? If so, my concern would be rotting after only a season or two. Did you address that & I missed it?
