BMW N55 Rod Bearing Replacement DIY Part 2 (2009-2019 BMW E90 335i, F30 335i, F87 M2, E82 135is)

►BMWs and rod bearings have a complicated history. The N55 engine is far easier on its bearings than the S54 or S85, but owners are now becoming concerned with them as the engine's age and are pushed to their limits. An FCP Euro employee found himself in that exact situation as a fresh stage 2 turbo and tune gave him some anxiety about his 160,000-mile bearings. So to ensure thousands of miles of health, we're replacing the bearings and showing you all how to do it.

One small note, tangs on bearings are for locating them not for retaining them rotationally speaking. I was a little surprised as I though they served both purposes but that is straight off the information included in a set of King bearings produced in the last few months.

Good diy for the most part, however the oil pump removal and installation seems like it was filmed and done in a rush. “Be methodical with your movements” doesn’t really mean anything and when tightening how was the sprocket locked? Mine just loses tension if I try and tighten it.

Also wanted to mention during the oil pump install it’s stated “10nm and 180 degrees for all the oil pump to bed plate bolts” ,but everyone else’s diy says only the long bolt get 180 degrees and the rest get 90. Did I just mess up my install by following this?

I have an n55 motor(m235i) and due to change my bearings, been told its good to upgrade the oil pump to m4/m3 pump, is there any massive diffrance between them two?

Did the owner give any thoughts about baffling the oil pan? Iirc these engines are prone to oil starvation in right handers when running competition tires.
It would be curious to see a set of bearings from an X5 35i running LL01fe.

You would need to buy an oversized or undersized bearing to make up the difference.

This looks way to complex for me to do. My engine just spun a bearing so im screwed. Yeah i will be paying that 2000 to get this done

WHAT IS the priming procedure?

Basically, add oil, disconnect fuses for injectors and fuel pump. Turn the engine over a couple of times to prime the oil pump/circuit.
