I started this video with this thought on my head: "Of course Marty will kick Kirk all the way." But now after listening to those solos and watching the performances i should say that even though Marty is still better imo we gotta give Kirk what he deserves. Mary is more technical, but Kirk's are more aggressive, fit the songs better. However, Marty is a better fit for Megadeth because their songs are more technical than Metallica's. I like them both, different attitudes which is good for us all!
I love Marty but the Blackened solo is my favorite. I feel like the fact that Marty doesn’t do tapping and rarely uses the whammy bar makes him different from everyone else.

Marty and Kirk are both excellent in their own unique ways. There's no way we can compare the two, even with Mustaine. They are all excellent lead guitarists, it's just they have their own melody and technique. Hands down to all of them.
Everybody would've agreed to this now if not for the fact that Megadeth and Metallica fanboys still fight over which band is better even though the feud between Megadeth and Metallica is over before this nonsense began.
Hammett has done great for Metallica over the years, and his solos usually serve the songs very well, so I'm not trying to knock him, but Marty is levels above him as a guitarist and a musician; he belongs in the conversation alongside the likes of Vai and Malmsteen and the same just can't be said for Kirk. One thing that Kirk probably doesn't get enough credit for though is his contributions to some iconic riffs. Hetfield usually hogs that spotlight but Hammett is no slouch himself when it comes to writing and playing killer metal riffs.

The solos of Marty Friedman in Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction are far superior to any solos by Metallica. Maybe they will be a little bit of the same height as And Justice For All, which is where Kirk got his best level.

I remember reading a Kirk interview in the early 90's talking about AJFA and what a complete headfuck it was to try and write solos over some of those odd, angular riffs. He done a splendid job with that task. Now I'm older I'm always paying attention to what music/riff the solo was played over and it usually increases my admiration of the solo.
I was thinking the same with Marty. Dave's riffs can't be easy to write over. Some of the riffs on Rust caused Marty to come up with some odd melodies. Remember that album was written and recorded entirely before Marty joined the band. Dave sat him down and said do your thing. And he nailed it!

True bro. I understand where you are coming from. Marty is clearly better interms of playing, melody and well everything really. But that doesnt detract from what Kirk does. Yeah he might not be a world beater guitarist but he does his thing and it works with the band.But then look at all the trash pop stars, some pop can be quite good and talented (michael jackson and great performers like that) but the charts today are often just talentless hacks, yet they can sell out bigger stadiums then even metallica. So in that regard you argument loses potency. By quite a large factor. And that just makes me sad really.
Both of these guys wrote the most memorable guitar solos, not many solos out there that you can sound them out with your mouth and have people recognize what songs they are from. Both my heroes for sure

Metallica has all my love, and I think it's more accessible than Megadeth. But I think Megadeth is far away from Metallica in melodies and technic. For me it's Kirk, no disrespect to Marty but Kirk has more emotion and aggression while Marty has more technicality and speed, both are greats in their own right. I prefer soul over complexity.

Kirk may not be the best guitar player of all, but his solos, riffs will be remembered for rest of our lives. You can whistle Metallica guitar solos, they're so lyrical. Megadeth guitar solos sound like noise, I'm not saying they're like craps, of course not, Megadeth has had many guitar players much better than Metallica over years, but their solos don't have that special feeling that makes you to remember of a specific song. My wife isn't a trushmetal fan, but she can make Metallica riffs and solos using her lips just whistling. When I play Metallica in my car, she doesn't mind, but when I play Megadeth she asks me to turn the radio off or turn the volume lower. I respect people's opinion if they don't agree with me.

Marty Friedman is leagues ahead of Kirk Hammett. I think you would agree with me if you followed Marty Friedman’s solo career. You gotta check it out.
Hammett has done great for Metallica over the years, and his solos usually serve the songs very well, so I'm not trying to knock him, but Marty is levels above him as a guitarist and a musician; he belongs in the conversation alongside the likes of Vai and Malmsteen and the same just can't be said for Kirk.
One thing that Kirk probably doesn't get enough credit for though is his contributions to some iconic riffs. Hetfield usually hogs that spotlight but Hammett is no slouch himself when it comes to writing and playing killer metal riffs.

I remember reading a Kirk interview in the early 90's talking about AJFA and what a complete headfuck it was to try and write solos over some of those odd, angular riffs. He done a splendid job with that task. Now I'm older I'm always paying attention to what music/riff the solo was played over and it usually increases my admiration of the solo.
I was thinking the same with Marty. Dave's riffs can't be easy to write over. Some of the riffs on Rust caused Marty to come up with some odd melodies. Remember that album was written and recorded entirely before Marty joined the band. Dave sat him down and said do your thing. And he nailed it!

I've always been more metallica leaning but if were talking about solos.. You can't say marty friedman is alot more interesting with his lines. He gets so technical while keeping melody being a foundation for it all. Such an amazing guitarist! Awesome solos from kirk as well; alot of agression into his style despite keeping it more basic by comparison!!

Metallica has all my love, and I think it's more accessible than Megadeth. But I think Megadeth is far away from Metallica in melodies and technic. Marty is uncomparable to Kirk, even in technic and feeling, he's a genius, his compositions are awesome, while Kirk just does the job (but does it well anyway ;))
For me it's Kirk, no disrespect to Marty but Kirk has more emotion and aggression while Marty has more technicality and speed, both are greats in their own right. I prefer soul over complexity.

Kirk may not be the best guitar player of all, but his solos, riffs will be remembered for rest of our lives. You can whistle Metallica guitar solos, they're so lyrical. Megadeth guitar solos sound like noise, I'm not saying they're like craps, of course not, Megadeth has had many guitar players much better than Metallica over years, but their solos don't have that special feeling that makes you to remember of a specific song. My wife isn't a trushmetal fan, but she can make Metallica riffs and solos using her lips just whistling. When I play Metallica in my car, she doesn't mind, but when I play Megadeth she asks me to turn the radio off or turn the volume lower.
