The schottische is a partnered country dance, that apparently originated in Bohemia. ... France[edit]. The "schottish Espagnole" or Spanish Schottische, also known as the "Seven Step" gained popularity in France in the early 1900s. Nothing to do with Scotland.
That's not exactly the same Sweetheart Schottische that I have seen done in most clubs. This version has an extra set of eight counts with the back to back roll turns. There is not anything wrong with this but you just won't mesh in with the other dancers on the floor if your doing this and everyone else is doing the more common version. Maybe this version is regional someplace.
