    Thank you for presenting in a straightforward and tight way, getting deep enough in detail to be exremely educational, and getting us viewers in the swing of trout spey... Beautifully done education by someone well versed in both fishing and teaching makes this a must see video. I use my beloved Winston BIII TH 11 ft 4 wt for trout, smallmouth and Great Lakes steelhead. Each requires a slightly different approach but the "keys" to unlock each are available to those who pay attention to this video. Think about how the fly moves in response to the angler's inputs of cast, cast angle, mends, what point the line tightens, following or leading the swing to present a different profile, what to do on the dangle, etc. Fishing this way is a blast.

    Great video, with too much info for us mere mortal newbies to process in one viewing. That’s not a complaint, but a commendation on the thoroughness of your instruction! Every video I’ve watched on every different technique has just been outstanding in every way. As a budding newbie gear geek, I love a quick gear and rigging rundown if it could be included. Huge props on your work, the best fishing instructions I’ve seen! Thanks, a fan in Fla.!

      It's just another tool, you can rig up a shooting head for your single handers for small water too maybe? I love the 175 Grain OPST Commando for my single hand 5 weight rod.

      @@redsflyshop I was laughing the other day on the river thinking about having rocks thrown at me for casting up and splashy. I reeled in about 10 feet of line and I was back to the same spot - only clean and controlled.

    OK...sorry but me again. I had a wonderful day of trout spey on the Lower Sac today. Thanks in part to your instruction. Got into some nice hatchery steelhead and some wild rainbows. It's SUCH a fun way to fish. I'd rather catch two this way than four nymphing. If that makes any sense to you...Thanks so much.

    Have you tried the OPST Micro Skagit rods? The shorter length makes them so fishy on tighter, more technical rivers.

      I have only casted them as demos, fine rods indeed. We carry so many brands that we haven't taken the plunge into the OPST rods, but love the line systems.

    What is the difference between OPST sink tip 10ft and 12ft on a 3wt trout spey rod, other than weight and length?
    I fish a 10ft sink tip what would you get with a 12ft sink tip on my redington dually II switch 3wt.
    Can I put a SA sonar polyleader 10ft (35 grain) on an OPST 250 grain head to get a slightly finer presentation for the summer while fishing the smaller woolly buggers. Sorry for the bad english, google translate.😅

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  8 місяців тому

      The 12' tips are really made for fishing OPST heads which can be as short as 12' - the longer tip gives you more sustained contact with the water. When you shorten up to 10' tips its very easy to "blow your anchor" which means losing contact with the water during the cast. Very common, very sloppy. You can sub in whatever tips you want, including polyleaders. there are no hard fast rules here, the goal is to have a perfect presentation so whatever tip/leader you need - adjust your casting to accommodate it. I do it all the time. Experiment with what you already own as well, that's the first thing I would suggest.
