Thank you!! I love it too!! I like to just sit back and look at it, lol!! I have my lawn chair set up on the patio facing the garden just for relaxing and planning what to do next. It's my happy place!! Thanks again!! -Lea
Nice harvests, those Better Boys are doing well for you guys this year! Banging in stakes is hard work! I have had to pull up three of my tomato plants this year with wilt like your plant is showing. I did a little research on line. The first thing to try is cut a top piece of and put it in a glass of water. If a cloudy substance comes out it’s a bacterial wilt, nothing came out on mine so the next thing to worry about is Verticillium wilt or Fusarium wilt. Fusarium would make the whole plant collapse at once so verticillium is suspected. I cut the plant off at the base (this is why you check for it last😁) you should see the discoloured tissue that is blocking the flow of sap, I did! Don’t compost the plant as the spores can live in the soil for three years or so. Apparently if the PH is a little high in your soil the plants are a little more prone to verticillium wilt, sure enough I had started adding the ashes from the pure wood charcoal I use, to my compost. I will hold off on the ashes and hope that makes a difference! Klaus
Wow!! This was very interesting!! I threw the whole plant into the chicken run and they disposed of it quickly, lol!! We have been adding our ashes from the fireplace during the winter to our compost pile. Will this wilt affect peppers and swiss chard the same way it affects tomatoes? We had little sections of the garden wilt, not just one particular type of plant. We may need to do something to lower the PH in those areas. Really interesting!! Thanks!! -Lea
Your tomatoes look wonderful! I love a freshly mulched garden--it always looks so neat.
