- Today we harvested our Silver Queen sweet corn. We picked it and shucked it so now it is ready to eat or freeze for the winter. We also cleaned up the area in the garden where the corn was to make ready to plant okra and peppers.
Thank you for being so detailed in your videos. I’m kind of just starting out and I’m learning so thank you and bless you and your harvest well.!
Hope your haveing a cracking weekend top job asallways keep up the hard work your brother tezza 👍 👍
Thanks a lot!! Same to you!! -Lea
Love the bob white quail
Thanks!! We do too. Pretty fun to hear them throughout the day!! -Lea
That was a nice harvest! I would be excited by all that compost material too!
Klaus
Thank you!! We got a pretty decent harvest. Definitely tasted wonderful!! Plenty to eat fresh and some to freeze as well! Lots of green material to add to the compost!! Thanks again!! -Lea
Nice, I planted silver queen today, leap day
Now I have Silver Queen envy, I could eat a whole row.
Lol!! I know!! I ate one ear raw out in the corn patch!! Thanks!! -Lea
Nice! Nice! Nice!!! Our corn still is yellow and now from your vídeo I know when they will get ready.
Very nice!! Good luck with yours! We had a little more worm damage than usual this year. I think it was because it got so warm so early. It is still delicious! Thanks!! -Lea
That is a great harvest!! They look so delicious! 😊
Thank you!! It really is delicious!! -Lea
I planted my okra about the same time. I thought it was super late, but they are absolutely loving this heat.
Definitely!! I think we used to plant our okra too early. They really start kicking in when it gets super hot!! Our plants are starting to look pretty good. I hope we get a lot of okra this year. I love it fresh but I also love to freeze it so I can use it in soups throughout the winter!! Thanks!! -Lea
We used to get beautiful Silver Queen corn here in Pennsylvania, and especially New Jersey and Maryland, and now you cannot find Silver Queen corn anywhere.
We are in middle Tennessee. Our first is about a week away. I have 3 blocks that I planted about 2 weeks apart.
Good luck with it!! Ours matured quicker this year and we had a little more worm damage than usual. I think the hot spring had a lot to do with this!! We had two patches about two weeks apart last year. I think we will do that again next year!! Thanks!! -Lea
@@backyardhomestead2230 yes I am seeing a difference because of the heat. I’m watching every day.
You know your compost is good when the butterflies start checking it out!! LOL!!
Lol!! That's the first thing I thought!! Compost must be smelling good!! -Lea
Beautiful butterfly and nice compost pile!! Very nice on the corn harvest, that's no
good you can't do a 2nd batch but with it being so hot the okra and peppers should
do really good!! *Have a good'nnn*
Thanks!! That's what we are hoping. The okra and peppers should thrive in this crazy hot and humid weather we are having!! -Lea
Wow massive harvest 😍👍
Thank you!! We're enjoying it!! Nothing much better than fresh sweet corn!! -Lea
New sub! Liked ✌️🙏
Thank you very much!! -Lea
How many days can you eat it fresh after picked? Do you have to blanch and freeze the same day as harvest? My Silver queen is done but I'm busy and planned to maybe harvest it one day then freeze the next... or stay up all night if it has to be done the same day. All I know is Silver Queen supposedly doesn't store as long as newer super sweets. Anyways I don't expect an answer and I'm sure it will work out lol. Great harvest, and hope your year is going good this year.
Hi! I have definitely left it in the refrigerator overnight after picking. I'm not sure how many days would be ok, but I know at least over night is ok from expetience!
@@backyardhomestead2230 Hey, thanks for the quick reply! That helps put my mind at ease.
Are silver queen normally smallish in size?
The seed package said the ears should be 8 to 9 inches. We measured some of ours and they averaged about 7 inches. Some were over 8 and some around 6. My parents grow field corn and the ears get a lot bigger. The ears aren't only longer, they are bigger around. We just prefer the taste of this sweet corn to the field corn. Thanks!! -Lea
@@backyardhomestead2230 white corn is sooo much better. I just noticed that my ears aren't real big compared to what I planted last year
@@thehoop74 The best white corn is Silver Queen corn.
