"That's not ethical!" Neither is insta-diagnosing someone with an eating disorder just because you once knew someone else who had it, Dr Manning. That mother is a living nightmare though. I'm glad her daughter finally stood up to her in the end.
She probably did not insta-diagnosing, as she say: "The indicators are there" 90% percent fo the time if the indicators are there it will be an eating disorder, but one needs to be very careful, even more so with the history of allopathic medicine telling women it's in their minds. She did not move to call child protection and was willing to talk to Dr Charles to confirm before taking radical actions. So I prefer doctors who are alert to abuse but confirm before acting, over doctors who are not aware.
@@lesliesnow3791 it’s the stereotype that some moms are wayyy into diet culture. "That's not ethical!" Girl, I've seen you do more unethical things than give a patient a tic tac. The only thing unethical would be if Dr. Charles charges 5 grand for giving that tic tac.
@@gamingwhilebroken2355 In that instance the placebo was not used instead of a treatment but to achieve a diagnostic that was beneficial to the patient. Often, ethical decisions are situational (the context is important) and not a manichean choice between absolute good and absolute evil. «Do no harm» is situational. When a doctor or a paramedic makes a tracheotomy on the spot that hurts the patient and is risky, but can save the patient live, that is not unethical.
I’ve had a feeding tube. I was in a coma and on life support for two weeks so they put a tube down my throat to feed me. When I woke up they had to put it in my nose and down my throat. It was awful and painful. I think I’d rather have the surgery.
Its when you give a false medication (sugar pill, for example) to a patient, if the patient gets better, it means that their symptoms might not be physical. It's used to test if a new medication actually works (if more people that took the placebo gets better than the new drugs, it means that the new drugs doesn't work). In real life, it's more complicated, but that's the gist of it.

living nightmare? she said "its your life" the first time and didn't coerce her otherwise... that is not a nightmare, heck, not even bad.
The mother was right she had a physical problem the dr said it himself

She didn’t diagnose her she referred her to get a diagnosis which is 100% ethical
Manning being all sanctimonious over a placebo but she has almost broken HIPPA every episode 😂
Overbearing parents are some of the worst.
This woman is overbearing, but understands her bounds to an extent
Did Dr. Charles just say “oh balls“ 😂😂😂
The first time i saw this scene i burst out laughing 😂
Typical Almond Mom...luckily the girl is not too affected and still wants food, even though it gave her pain and nausea
eh me personally not that overbearing just bitchy i guess? idk
What’s an Almond mum?

Even though if you watched the rest of the clip you'd know that it just wasn't that.

Actually placebos are unethical as it denies the patient autonomy

Thing here is that it could be much more risky with the surgery.
Geez I would hate that
A tic tac 🤣🤣🤣
I thought it was anxiety caused by psychomom which is why she threw up after getting yelled at for having a damned burger
Is the Chicago series returning??🙏🏼🙏🏼⭐️
Yes. They finished season 8 a few months ago. But yes, it is confirmed for a return.
Stuff like this makes me glad my parents completely ignored me through my teens.
You work that tube girl!
The mum is a pian but not the worst 😢
As a non-native speaker, the pronunciation for placebo surprises me, in my head it should sound similar to placeable.
English is terrible to learn haha. I'm lucky it's my first language because I'd hate to learn it as a second
Also consider that many things in the medical field were named after greek people and/or findings.

What is a placebo?
Not real, just sugar or something

Dr Manning is literally the worst doctor in this show!
The most human and reassuring, but also rational and thoughtful.
I disagree dude she tries everything she can do lol
