    Very good video. I would like to point out some things you might have done (all your choice):
    Paint the plywood backing board prior to installing, your wife would be happy.
    Add a hose bib on the supply line near the floor to help drain the system in the future.
    Add earthquake brackets to the final filter; you never know what will run into that filter even if earthquakes are not common in your area.
    Consider pipe insulation to prevent condensation.
    Replace the lag bolts into the backing ply with thru bolts; lag bolts have very little shear strength.

    I’m glad I found this video before I installed my system - I had not thought about the weight of the filter after rinsing it out (my hand truck was buried in the back of my garage and I also cleared out a path to carry it to where I mounted it).

    I am about to install an AO Smith WH Filter and this helped me a lot. Similar setup. Mine is in a crawl space, enough room for me to fit at 6’ 4”. LOL My little house was done in CPVC so I am using that and SharkBite fittings and adding in pressure gauges. Thank you. PS No Corvette either. Nice wheels.

      Your welcome, I am having an issue with the whole house filter, it started leaking around the main seal. I have tried to fix it several times but it just won’t stop. Just FYI. I haven’t tried getting a new seal yet. Shark bites are awesome! Thanks, I like the Vette as well, she’s coming along!

      @@shotslife Interesting. My house was just built, closed last week, and the plumber tried to install the pre filter, whole house and UV light at my request. he did it without a bypass path (argh) and when he got it hooked up he said the pressure in house went to nothing. I dont know if he flushed it properly, he says he flushed it, but the instructions are very specific (15 minutes flush then 15 minutes of surge flush, 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off). he disconnected the path and reconnected the main to the house and left me to pick up the pieces. I talked to AO Smith but they had no explanation. I will try and repair it next weekend. I am in western NC.

    BZ! Well done on the plumbing project!
    Ohhh ... wine? 🍷
    I put an elaborate water system on my boat a few years ago. Two inlets per side; one inlet per side goes direct to the tank, the other two inlets flow in after the pump so as to use steady dock pressure vs. the cycling pump pressure. And each inlet pair has its own filter.
    ...
    And, yes, wood has gotten crazy expensive! $$$

    Any updates? A/O smith has a nice UV sterilizer to go with the system. I have it myself definitely need to use copper with copper unions for the UV sterilizer. The WHOLE HOUSE DESCALER is meant to use with copper plumbing as you don’t want a water softener, the salt can deteriorate the copper overtime plus it’s expensive adding salt bags.
    I noticed the whole house filtration system that A.O. Smith has is a good deal, especially from Lowe’s with military discount. High-quality as well, huge difference, and using the UV sterilizer system from A.O. Smith no more white scum buildup.

    I have a whole house filter also and a softener. The whole house filter is just to filter out debris. Carbon filters help remove Chlorine. Neither of these will filter out the minerals. As a fish tank guy, I have an RO system which is the only thing that removes 99.98% of all of the minerals. However, those are not feasible for normal water use since they don't have but a trickle of water and produce for example only 60gpd. That is where the softener comes in, but it too has it's limits on what minerals it will remove. I test my water and have high KH but low GH due to the softener. I still have the white deposits on my appliances.

    • @shotslife
      @shotslife  3 роки тому

      Hey thanks Robert, the filter system seems to be doing the trick but long term will tell the tale!

    • @Grady252
      @Grady252 3 роки тому

      @@shotslife Yes, that is very true. After a while I thought my white buildup would go away, but it didn't. So I used my aquarium test kits for GH and KH harness and found the answer. You can get these test kits pretty cheap and find out what your water has in it. Then go from there if you find you need to add something more. I know when I was in KY, the hardess was due to the lime more than other minerals.

    What made you use copper insead of cpvc? Did you have your water tested before putting this in? Did it stop the scaling / build up issue you had? We have hard water we thought the scaling build up on dishes etc was from hard water, but we still have it after the water softener. I heard that salt can actually build up on things? Guess that's what the white film is? I was hoping something like this would help but if its just charcoal filter, its still there under our fridge water dispenser which has a filter in it. So I guess not.

    • @shotslife
      @shotslife  Рік тому

      So, I went copper because the whole house was copper. No test, just rust stains and build up…. So I did get rid of all the issues, plus the water taste better.

    • @cranbers
      @cranbers Рік тому +1

    • @shotslife

      Yup, I think our rust issue is the city water pipes are getting old and haven’t all been replaced with newer pvc lines… anyway I don’t think we had hard water, just a lot of junk in it. The filters don’t last long…
