    OMG. I thought this was going to be your typical review or instructional video. Timely, considering I'm in a market for a whole house filtration system. But geez, by the end I realized we were invited to watch a business sent off over the literal cliff. What I needed was a brand Roger would recommend. I think I'm going with Halo now.

    I install water softeners with salt tanks it's a brand called Marlo it looks just like that with the two valves in the back. It's interesting to me that you're by pass is in the yard we usually install them right behind the unit. Marlo also lets you set the time it regens and it will let you set how many days or gallons used. The standard is every 14 days or after 1200 gallons of use. I use clear primer for the most part but some counties require that you use purple to pass inspection.

    I had a company stop replacing a water pump for my indoor water fall that had a 25 year warranty. I had to replace it what it seemed every year or so, the propeller would seize. They told me it was because my water was to hard and causing the issue. but yet nothing in their warranty said anything about pretesting your water, that water hardness affects the pump, etc. Great 25 year warranty with loophole that doesnt exist to save themselves money

    The reason it looks the same and fits so well is because it's the exact same valve. It's called a clack valve. It's a good valve. It's built in the United States. It's been around for a very long time. I think about 35 years we used to sell them at my company. A bunch of companies, including Halo by the valve and then build a proprietary circuit board for them so that they look different. But it really comes down to is the materials inside. Most importantly, what kind of carbon are they using for filtration, coconut shell, bone shaw, charcoal carbon? Really important from a longevity standpoint as well as an effectiveness standpoint. Also important to consider if there's kdf in the system or any other sort of oxidation media to help with contaminants the carbon misses.

    • @ladsin11
      @ladsin11 3 місяці тому

      They're using activated and centaur carbon, a scale reducing media, and filter ag. I hate these mixed bed systems because they have to be replaced more frequently. Same as the old mixed bed softeners. I want to know what problems he was having with that other system and if it was supposed to be Up flow or down flow. No directional arrows were shown and since they're likely the exact same multi-stage system I can't imagine what happened. Carbon dust is the biggest problem I've had with them.

    always make sure the inlet and outlet are on the correct side. I have seen plenty where inlet and outlet are reversed from one another!
    Nothing ruins your day like plumbing one reversed and having some of the filter media get out into water lines and clog faucets, solenoids, fill valves, aerators. there's always some filter media that escapes the first few cycles from factory assembly, usually it's minimal and only out the drain during initial backwash, except when plumbed backwards 🤣

    The Halo is a great water treatment system. It is not on the other hand. A water softener. One of their sales reps approached our company many years ago and sold us these really nice whole home water treatments softeners. So we sold them and got a lot of very angry customers. Where I live. the water hardness is between 13-50 grains of hardness depending on the city. customers were getting white powder covering their showers and non of their hard water problems were being fixed. If you want great drinking water and not showering in chemicals. The Halo is great. Specially if paired with an actual water softener.

I'm one of those people that think it's worth spending extra money on things that count. High efficiency heat and a/c, high efficiency water heaters, insulation, windows, doors, electrical, plumbing, roof, fixtures, flooring and yes sheetrock...don't put the awful 1/2 inch stuff in...your wife hangs two pictures in one spot and it's falling apart...also tape seal spray foam caulk everything you would be surprised how bad alot of house's are...I want to build a house that I can keep for many years and even if I move out 15 years later I'll feel good about the house I'm selling to some young couple as their first home...if we all helped others that deserve help we would all be much better off as a species...if someone works hard help them...if they are lazy and slimy snakes in the grass get out your lawn mower and cut the grass on the lowest setting...they make bush hogs for larger enemies I mean difficult areas...

      My purple joints look amazing but there is no code in Texas that says your primer has to be purple. Plumbers tell helpers to do that I believe thinking the inspector will see purple primer and green tag it even though the glue they use which is 100 times more important is clear because they are to cheap to by grey or blue glue or any medium body glue. Btw I will debate anyone who tries to tell me its not glue it’s solvent cement. If it’s solvent cement bonding material at the molecular level then you must not know what a molecule is.

    You mentioned in your video that you have installed several FlowTechs and you/customers were very happy with them. As of this recording, you have also stated you have installed several Halo systems and you/customers are very happy with them - therefore, it appears both systems started out-of-the-gate with positive results. We all go through hardware issues regardless of the manufacturer, but it appears the break down in the FlowTech system were more due to FlowTech's human interactions. If the customer support you received through FlowTech was on a more profession level, would you still be selling FlowTech today? Keeping personalities out of the equation, what is it about Halo that your staff/customers gravitate towards more over the FlowTech system?

Because it's mixed bed the carbon and the scale reducing media will have to be changed together independently of whether or not one is still good. Most big box brands are made by either Ecowater or Hague. Ecowater is the largest manufacturer of domestic ion exchange systems. This would include Whirlpool, Kenmore, North Star - what you get with these is a lower spec Ecowater softener that is perfectly fine. Ecowater branded softeners are sold by dealers and have all the bells and whistles. Stay far away from junk brands like Fleck. I've never heard of either of these brands in the video, but they appear to be marketed by plumbers. Which explains a lot. What about water filtering systems for well water. The local plumbing company wants to sell me this water softening system that I have to add salt minerals to, but I need to remove minerals from my water. I have a high amount of iron in my water along with calcium and other minerals that clog up my aerators in my faucets.

    • @TotallyNotRedneckYall
      @TotallyNotRedneckYall Рік тому

      Salt softener system mostly takes care of calcium and magnesium, the iron will eventually stop the resin up. They sell a bunch of different Iron filters that will go in before the softener though, I'd recommend getting one to extend the life of the softener.

      It would be good to get your water tested by a state approved compliance lab since you are on a well. An approved compliance lab will test your water with a GS/MS machine that will give you a report that is the gold standard in the water filtration industry. It is highly accurate and precise. That way you have an idea of the water you are dealing with. Contact a water quality specialist.
      What is a high amount of iron? Do you see staining in sinks? A softener can remove up to 3ppm of iron. And 3ppm of iron will cause staining. Above 3ppm and you will need some additional equipment for effective removal and be aware it can get expensive to remove iron.

    This was a real kill your hero moment for me. As a fellow plumber ive installed at least thirty of these for my company. Heres what ive come to learn.
    1 if you have hard water this will basically do nothing to prevent calcium build up/ corrosion.
    2 The main difference this will make in your water is the taste and smell. This shiny tin can is manufactured to remove the chlorine from your water some plumbers will tell you this unit will give you "alkaline water" but if you check the acidity of your water its generally pretty close to what it is pre unit.
    3 Talking to an old staff member of Halo water he told me of an interaction with the owner of halo water where they were pushed to sell the units with a salt and brine softner on top of the halo 5 (One to actually "soften" the water the halo 5 to remove the salinity and improve water taste)
    All in all most of the plumbers i know wouldnt recommend this unit unless if hard water isnt an issue and you just want improved taste. Most of us refer to it as the chrome bottle of snake oil. On top of that most companies are charging 4800-5200 for these ineffective "water conditioners"
