  • Possibly the earliest known footage of a compulsory dance at a world championships, that I know of at least, here are the Canadian team of Louise and Barry Soper who finished 9th in the ice dance event at the 1973 Worlds in Bratislava, dancing the Starlight Waltz.

Bring back the Compulsory Dances! Such a delightful Waltz, many thanks Flo, and excellent video quality. 🥰

I heartily agree! It was so easy to compare the skills of the various pairs in the compulsory dances. I feel the same way about the compulsories in gymnastics.

Yes please.... I am still appalled they've even removed the compulsory section from the RD now. *sigh*

@@ddjr6673 Ice dancing has just become "mini-pairs" imo.

Floskate you really give such joy to us, finding and posting these. Yet another gem.... and they just skate off the rink... no bow to the judges - I found that so amusing! Thank you so much.

This is absolutely delightful-and thank you so much for posting this! It occasionally happens in the world of ice dancing-that couples that don’t necessarily have the skills to place at the top, somehow, present compelling qualities that would make their skating so pleasant to watch (e.g., Elizaveta Stekolnikova and her partner, especially toward the end of their careers). I don’t think I’ve ever seen this couple before, but I have a feeling I could watch them skate all day.
