I just saw this today at the "Farewell to Yamato" Remaster at Midland Square in Nagoya. I never had tears roll down to a movie in my life at the theatre, but tears rolled down by themselves throughout his speech to the remaining crew and unto this scene, the movie was in Japanese but even though mine is not good enough, I understood every word. Every emotion.. Yamato is on her eternal journey into the stars...
That movies should have been the last , but sadly , politics involved, and they created , I think 3 more movies , and probably one series more, just to put this movie out of canon line .
This whole still makes me cry after all these years. It was beautifully done the music was spot on. This and the scene when the Yamoto destroyed the Water Planet and water in space the she raises up out of the water trying to to stay afloat and you hear she lets out a Roar!!!! And she sinks back into the water
I first saw Space battleship Yamato, (Star Blazers) in the late 1980s. My kids and I would watch it along with other anime. I never saw the 3rd season. That ending was so sad. I've been collecting the 3 seasons of the original, the live action movies and the reboot series.

Leiji Matsumoto was truly one of a kind, never got enough respect for his works but to me he will forever be the master of Space Opera and tragic anime or manga, "The Cockpit", "Space Battleship Yamato", "Uchu Kaizoku Captain Harlock"... those will never leave my soul. Farewell, Leiji Matsumoto, may your soul forever sail in the sea of stars.
Only in the reboot. In OS this movie was retconned and the ending was much different. And better. Shima had a gf and they yanked her away in reboot. 😭😭
2202 kinda make clear that there is several alternate realities and all are canon (as it showed a lot of alternate realities as not only other Yamato series and movies but even Harlock... they would even put there Tim Eldred's Star Blazer there as they confirmed.. only that they didnt renembered when animated the scene.. but confirmed in interview that has they renember they would had included Starblazers rebirth as one of the canon realities...
It depends on the version. In this condensed movie version, just about *everybody* bought it during the last battle with the Comet Empire. In the television series, the remainder of the crew left the ship, while WildStar and Nova were going to ram Zordar's ship. Trelaina brought back an unconscious Mark Venture and then destroyed Zordar herself.
space battleship Yamato is the one of the most underrated anime i ever watch so much emotion and love its one of my favorite anime of all time
The music sequence in this scene encompasses almost perfectly the tragic atmosphere, one of the finest anime endings ever

神風特別攻撃隊の方々もヤマトクルーと同じく､家族と国の為に命を捧げました。 良く言われた自爆テロとはまったく違う動機から取った行動です。
突入寸前､無線から聴こえた搭乗員の声は…お母さんが多かったと言われて居ます。
最高映画だ昔は同じ映画で何回も見れた、見るたび泣いた感動感動😮
その当時も感動しましたが、リマスター版が公開され観ました。
45年前の映画を再びスクリーンでしかも現代の技術で画像がキレイな事、感動しました。
何度もTVで観てきたんで最初から泣きそうで😢。
「慌てず急いで正確にな、技師長」斎藤カッコ良すぎ。
「違う断じて違う⁉️宇宙は母なのだ」古代泣かすなよ❗️
やっぱヤマトは最高でした。

50代後半の自分は、宇宙戦艦ヤマトシリーズの完結は、現在でもこの『さらば～』が本当の完結だと思っていて、この後に出てくるヤマトシリーズは邪道に思えて一度も観ていないです。このシーンはいつ観ても泣けますね。

Just Kodai and Yuki. Everyone else was ordered to leave the ship.
Some are actually dead in the series like the Original Captain but others are just there in spirit as they had left the ship.

ロードショーではもう何も考えられず。あとから、どこかで
聞いたような、と、風と共に去りぬという、ハリウッドのみならず
世界的名作映画のテーマに似てると思いました。
パクリだのなんだのという意図で書いてるのではありませんし、
アニメにもハリウッドサウンドがマリアージュするということを
実証した名作だと思います。
そもそも、この映画では様々な曲が登場し、映画が終わっても、
ヤマトより愛をこめて、という沢田研二氏の曲が終わるまで
席を立つ人は、ほとんどなく、エンディング曲まで聞く、
という映画鑑賞を浸透させるなど、数々の偉業を残した

松本零士のヤマトは面白い漫画だった。映画はアホなプロデューサーのヘンな脚色で全く別の話しにされてしまった。まあ、松本さんにしてみれば、儲けさせてくれたんだろうけどね。
