- Does everyone in Southern California hate it?
Is everyone leaving California?
And is it super expensive and hard to find an affordable home?
We'll answer those questions and more. So grab some tacos and hop on the 10, we're going to Unbox Southern California.
Southern California. The land that once was great. It’s still okay in some parts, but MAN are people here doin their best to trash it and change it and make it not desirable.
Anyways, lots of people move here every single year. They do their homework on home prices and crime and they STILL want to come. And they are lost, I tell ya. Lost. Most people don’t know where to move. Like Goldilocks, they want the perfect place.
Anyways, that’s what this is all about. I’m gonna break down every single part of Southern California and let you know exactly what to expect if you move here. It’s a pretty big place, and no matter your background, education, your wealth or entertainment needs, there’s somewhere for everyone. Just just have to know where to look. Now I’m no realtor, but I know a lot about this place, so I can give you a tour.
Ooh. Look. Traffic. We didn’t get very far. I was all enthusiastic about really discovering this place and then BAM. We’re stuck. We’re not going to be able to see Southern California easily like this. You know what - I’ll just get a map out and while we’re sitting here in traffic, I’ll point out all the places you need to know about.

Sounds very accurate. I'm surprised you know so many details about so many places. I left in 1990 mostly because of the traffic. It was terrible in every direction on every road in RIVERSIDE which is a long way from LA. And now the prices are insane. The 2 bedroom 1 bath house I bought for $25,500 in 1978 is now supposedly worth half a million dollars? That's nuts. Norco is horse town. The only way you could get a place there was to know someone who was leaving (at least back then). Pedley and Bloomington were also horse areas. Probably not so much now.
I had horses in Temecula or Rancho California as the real estate industry prefers to dub it. Crazy expensive huge houses on 5 acres halfway between San Diego and LA and nowhere close to commute to work. Back then, the people building there were retiring from Orange and LA Counties. They'd sell in those expensive places and could afford to build a McMansion on 5 acres. Lots of retired fire department people moved there back then.
Actor Jack Klugman had a place across from the training track. Super nice guy. The Mexican grooms called his place "Taco Bell" because of the big entryway you could see from the barns and track.
Please delete this video and it needs to get better lot of opportunities
The closer you get to the Mexico border, the Mexican food gets better.
For reals they make killer rice and beans too 😁
My biggest problem is just too many homeless people and too many Mexicans living in California
I’m from MA and I’ll tell you it can be a hit or miss finding good Mexican food
I disagree. People travel. I have had good Mexican food all over CA. There is more of it tho in SoCal.
@@mattyee9369 Cali by far does it really good been there myself
Everyone under 40 in SoCal are still stuck either living with their parents 'cause they can't afford their own home, or stuck sharing an apartment with roommates.

@Angello! R. no, that is completely backwards. Other state governments encourage prisoners to go there so they don’t have to deal with them anymore. Sometimes it just the difference between a bus ticket for them instead of a longer sentence

I lived in several places in SoCal but my favorite was Long Beach.
@@thomaslanguell7257 yeah, near the beach it is fun and you find everything that you need riding bike or walking distance! Way better than Hermosa Beach or even Irvine
I lived in Bluff Park on 2nd street. The weather was always perfect. A good place if you're a college student or LGBTQ, but not for families.
Nick, everything you said is true about anyone thinking of moving to Southern California. I'm glad you have the strength to be truthful because not many people desire being honest and that's sad. Thank you for exposing this land as it is. That's reality.
San Diego, Palm Springs, Riverside, Temecula, Carlsbad, Laguna, they’re probably the best places in Southern California, its not a horrible place to live as long as you avoid LA and San Bernardino. (Edit: y’all gotta stop hating if you’ve never been to certain places 😂 and yes most of the places I listed are decent if you have money that’s how California is don’t be butt hurt about it)

Riverside is Ghetto Moreno Valley trash
as long as you have the money:)
Riverside and Temecula?! Nahhh
Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, and Irvine are also nice.
Nick I'm told that everything in SoCal is named after things that used to be there, but have since been plowed under. So Isla Vista used to have a view of the Islands, Orange County used to grow oranges and Los Angeles used to have angels.

Nick... you did it! Seriously you're the best. I couldn't help but think all the first unboxing videos (NY, California, Florida & Texas) got the short stick because their videos are so short and not very detailed in comparison to the rest of the states but they're the most popular ones. I'm so happy you're doing this.
I'm tryin here :)
@@NickJohnson He's right. Your videos got a lot better. Yay! 😁
Can you do Northern California?
Btw, the majority of homeless in SoCal are from Washington, Colorado, NY and other cold states. I worked at a non profit. They move here for the weather, free government benifits and drugs.
the only mistake you made was saying there were not many homeless in downtown San Diego. There are tons, I live here and see them all the time. Not as bad as LA but still very bad. Miles and miles but only along particular streets.
Same with Santa Barbara right on State Street especially.
Majority of the homeless are from the states where you don't want to be homeless because it's either too cold in the winter or too hot during the summer. It is why the coastal states have the lion's share of the homeless population. Admit it, who wants to be homeless in Topeka, Kansas or Oklahoma City, OK? California has got work to do in addressing homelessness, but let's understand that the number is exacerbated by the influx of those who are struggling coming from mostly midwestern states. Just ask them where they're from and you'll see.
Same. San Diego resident here. I guess if you compare to LA, we have a drop in the bucket
@andydguitar do you really wanna be homeless with a dew point at 80 degrees or higher? That has got to be the most oppressive heat especially when you’re homeless. On the west coast, it might soar past 100 degrees but if you can find shade, you’ll have some relief. With humidity, unless you’re in an air conditioned room, you’re gonna be uncomfortably sticky.
Yep. I have lived in SD 25 years and it is bad downtown. Not good in the outskirts either with people living in canyons etc
As a someone who grew up in the Valley, went to UCLA, lived in West Hollywood, Mar Vista, and Belmont Shore in Long Beach...and then moved to New Zealand in 1976, I can only say...I’m so glad I live in New Zealand...

Nothing like the queens city.
I moved from Dana Point to Louisiana and I’m in love.
I live in Perris, but that's a separate can of worms, but I remember when we moved to this area from L.A in 1990 Hemet was really nice. In fact back then it was said that it had more wealth per capita than Beverly Hills, I'm not too sure about that but it was a huge retirement community and there weren't that many questionable people running around, just a lot of old people driving slow in their Cadillac's and Mercedes Benz. Now it's just very sad there, It's so run down and scary looking. When the economy tanked back in about 2008 a lot of places in Hemet became section 8 housing, so that was part of the downfall.
I didn't know you were Jewish, Mappy! shabbat shalom
This channel is so diverse!
California's agenda: raise prices and raise taxes. Keep the poor, poor. With that being said, California is still a very beautiful state. Full of diversity, rich in culture, and beautiful weather. That explains the reasons why no one wants to leave and thousands of people still move there every year.
@Sarah Rai facts and for business starters LA is best
California supplies 1/4 of all produce for the US via the central valley. Hollywood brings in so much money, as well as silicon valley. There are 4 million small independent businesses which employ 50% of the workforce. The wine industry in California is huge, and brings in billions just from exports. The UC system contributes more than 60 billion each year. California is home to 2 super large ports, LA and LB, international trade from just LA County alone exceeds $400 billion each year. It's not just silicon valley
CA has averaged 3.8% GDP growth over five years compared, respectfully, to 2.5% national growth. Regardless of where the money goes there is $3.2 trillion of it. While homelessness in CA is certainly a rampant issue, the top cause of homelessness in CA among unaccompanied individuals is actually the lack of affordable housing, followed by unemployment, poverty, mental and substance abuse issues.

Something to mention about the Los Angeles area is that everything is so condensed that even nice areas aren't very nice and things change block to block. Yes, Beverly Hills is a wealthy area, but you can be walking down the street looking at all of the fancy boutique stores and high-end restaurants, then turn the corner and all of a sudden be somewhere that you really don't want to be. Almost every city has places like that, even nicer areas outside of LA city, like Altadena and Pasadena. You don't want to be on the wrong side of Lake Ave... I've lived here my whole life and it's still strange to me how quickly things shift from block to block.
Also, the beach cities are very expensive and a lot of wealthy people do live there, but a lot of the major beaches are trashed from crowds and homelessness. I've seen some pretty strange things from being out at night by the beach

Then, when I was 35, my sister in law and family moved to Oakland. We visited them twice in the next 4 years. We took trips to the Lake Tahoe area and to Reno. They didn't actually live in Oakland. I can't remember where they actually lived, but the places where they did live was really pretty and nice!!!!
From the looks of it, I don't care to go back to California. But, thanks for the info!! Great job!! I LOVE maps!!!!
Diana ❤️
I WISH YOU WOULD DO ANOTHER VIDEO ON PHOENIX ARIZONA.. I’m SURE YOU WOULD MAKE ALOT OF PEOPLE HAPPY 😊
I love your blatant honesty. Even when you're making fun of me. I find it refreshing. I love your little jingles too. Keep it up bud 👍
You forgot Inglewood where the Rams play now and the Lakers use to, that place is gentrifing now.
I lived in perris a long time and it’s actually great because I feel we are not too far from cool places. Palm Springs is 1 hour away, Oceanside (1hr) , San Diego and Mexico boarderline (2 hrs). LA(2HR) riverside (30 mins with multi ways to get there) Temecula/wine country (30mins) Huntington 1.5 (hrs). So lots of places to travel to on a day off. We also have a nice lake. It’s not a perfect town but I think it’s quiet , affordable and overall decent.
Nick, are you driving around starting fights with people? I've lived in a couple of these places and never had a problem.
It just depends on where you live. Not all SoCal is a shithole.
Exactly the video I was looking for. Thank you!
SoCal : there's nothing to see here, move along........move along.......
I have watched a bunch of your videos. This one was hilarious! Wish it was an hour long!
Left in 2007...I can only imagine. Was a great place to grow up in 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
That’s when I was born 😯
When I left Lakewood California in 1980 to Indiana it was very crowded but nothing like today. And a house that was around 80,000 dollars then is around a million today.
3 decades living in California...this video gives me confidence in your other videos about places I haven't been but will soon move to.
Ok Vince
Everything you said was true . I’m formally from menifee/Temecula now I’m in central Texas . Hemet is Compton 2.0 now because of the LA people moving there . I’m glad to see you’ve illustrated how well the cultures and demographics are nowadays , people don’t believe me when I talk about Cali .
Long Beach is amazing by the beach.
If you don’t Mind walking over a bum every block….
Yea just dont be there after dark
Southern Cal is wonderful; just bring $2-3 million, minimum, with you.
I can't believed you skipped right over the san gabriel valley like monterey park, arcadia, alhambra, san gabriel, rosemead etc. It's primarily a chinese, taiwanese and vietnamese population, extremely expensive, lots of mcmansions next to the 900 sq ft homes, tons of restaurants, and festivals.
Despite the inaccurate descriptions of Oxnard/Ventura, another great vid. Thanks!
I'm from California and it used to be a lovely place to live it still is the best weather the best scenery the best people the best everything California is freaking beautiful but this homeless problem is just destroying us and it's all cuz of greed!
Dude! Your mom is adorable! Best guest ever. 😁
She is
The soaring buildings, palm-lined streets, and golden rush era buildings, paired with vibrant nightlife, luxury shopping, and world-class dining, make the city/county a sight to behold and be explored.
Riverside certainly dazzles with its uber-modern design showcased in sights like the Mission Inn, and with its over-the-top attractions like the Riverside Food Lab mall, El Paseo Mall, and County Fair/Coachella and outer cities within Riverside County (like Palm Springs and Temecula). But it wasn't the glitzy nightclubs and crowd-pleasing brunches that won me over, it was the traditional architecture, Californian culture, and delicious pistachio dates. So if you're looking for a more traditional slice of life, here are some of my favorite places you should visit in Riverside.
A city with a whole bunch of Old Money. When I visited the streets were clean and I didn’t see any homeless camps in sight just like San Diego. Someone told me a lot of ex-San Diegans are moving there so it might explain the skater vibe/burritos I get there haha.
Peace and Love from Dubai ❤️ If my job stays remote I think I am going to move to Riverside county somewhere in it like Temecula, Palm Springs, or Downtown Riverside near that new futuristic library a realtor showed me. Seems like Riverside, Orange County, and San Diego are tough on homeless encampments just like Dubai.
this vid is one the best one in your collection must certain ! they way you broke down SoCal is beyond amazing you made sound sooooooo easy ! in reality is a beast itself !
I lived in Westlake, Hollywood, Westwood, Inglewood, Alhambra, Baldwin Park, South LA and Korea Town. #1 goes to Alhambra, I recommend it.
I've lived in East Long Beach for 20+ years. Love it. Six miles from Seal Beach--nice suburbia!
Being a skateboarder, i have always been facinated with california always wondered where certain locations where.
Now you know
I can't stop watching these
Thank you for glossing over the beach cities. It's too crowded as is....During the summer months, the whole area is trampled with beach goers, tourists, and of course traffic.
It's absolutely ridiculous.
Triggered Libs love it!.....there are a few in Redlands too!💙
didn't you guys lose?
He triggered republicans too. Called em rednecks.
