Pretty stoked to hear you speak so well about these. Since way back in the day, when everyone was split between Indys and thunders, I always rode ventures and the 5.6s are right in my sweet spot. I tend to like pretty laid back decks like Real or Antihero 8.25s with pretty small wheels (50s) so these are high enough for me to still get some sick pop but low enough to keep me stable. I like the slightly wider base too for silky smooth hill bombing 😅 nothing worse than snaking yourself into an asphalt sandwich 🤣🤣 I've tried indie stage 11s and thunder mids but this truck still does it for me like no other 👌👌👌
I like my Tensor Mag Light TENS a lot, but they are a very low truck. So if you're riding a pretty mellow tail and nose board, it might be a bit harder to get high pop. It's by no means impossible, especially with something like a Powell Peralta Flight deck that pops great despite the fairly mellow concave overall, but you might want to use them on steeper decks especially. Of course, if you're getting a lot of ghost pops on your current setup, these Tensors might be an excellent choice. On the plus side, the trucks are of course very lightweight, which does make them pretty good for anything that flips (I mean, technical stuff, flat ground etc.). The metal used seems a bit less rough and tough than the Venture Hi V-lights I've got, but this is kind of a good thing in grinds actually. Less resistance or something, not entirely sure. I also have no issues with them turning, pretty much better than the Venture Hi V-lights, although to be fair with broken in bushings I really have no issues doing tight turns on those either. And as a beginner I ride them slightly more tight than medium. It might be more of a wheelbase thing anyway, than the maximum angle these trucks can turn, as modern trucks all pretty much turn _very close_ to the same and at the same time hardly anyone uses the maximum turn anyway.

For me the venture bushings are a bit of a mystery the white kateder bushings were too soft/much wheelbite. The stock clear yellows on my second set turn perfect and dont need bones/hards conversion or risers. Just receantly got the REAL wooden risers that are supposed to be perfectly made for ventures ill try those out for a bit. For me ventures have the best lock in/pop out feel for grinds/slides/manuals like amazing response esp when the hangers are grinded down and have a huge flat spot to balance for fliptricks mid grind. Still waiting for a 8.75" axle ace. As far as venture/indys though if i try anyones board with indys or ventures its like im not even riding someone elses setup. Very comfortable trucks to skate. For big spin variations, or full cabs or bs 360s....there really is nothing like the pop/spin feel of ventures. And here i thought 159 indys had those tricks dialed in for me. You can really generate the right amount of force on the mid tail/run for these big spins to really scoop and get some real air/pop on them vs the basic flic most people do for regular and fs big spins. 180s in general with ventures feel so good to pop and land squared ventures just have this overall feel when popping and landing bolts that indys or no other truck bring. It really brings a signature street style/feel when you stomp a fat bs 180 off a curb cut or bs flip or bigspin
As someone who just got back into skating I forgot how much tech and sizes goes into trucks. I just went to my local skate shop to get a complete and they literally only had one pair of trucks in the entire store for a size 8 board. My first Thunder trucks!
Great review Ben. Think I might add these to contrast my 144 Indys. I'd love to see a review of Royal Trucks; wondering if they pair well with Crailtap decks.
The new 720p60 frames skating shots look great 👍 and the insight on pinch, wheelbase change and standing tilt on manuals is very helpful. Thank again for another solid review Ben
Your reviews are so refreshing because you talk about gear the way longboarders talk about gear. Skating needs more gear nerds, imo. You reviewing traditional kingpin trucks from longboard truck brands (e.g. Paris, Caliber, Bear) would be the ultimate crossover
Hey! This was really good review and alot of information that helps me understand skateboard trucks better! Few years ago i started ride skateboard again and i tryed element 8.0 board with thunder lights 147 trucks! Somehow i tryed 2 pair of spitfire 51mm wheels and the board was just behaving strange! I then updated the board to a real, ishod wair 8.0, dubble tail board and 50 mm wheels. The pop was way better! But it was always something sketchy about the trucks! And after i looked my videos i noticed i land all my flips in rocket style! So then i tryed to ride wider board: 1 year later i got thunder hollow lights 148mm with ishod wair dubble tail 8.25 mm wide board & 52mm ricta slim wheels. This was way better setup and i landed my flips way better! But still today the feeling when standing on board feels (strange). So i did watch your video and order venture hollow, 5.6 trucks!!!! I really look forward to set these trucks on my dubble tail 8.25 board & 52 mm wheels and see if it feels better!!!! I can strongly recomend those bones swiss bearings (the expensive ones) Specially for the (secret weight they have). I feel like these bearings make skateboard feel more stable and i lost alot of fear/worry about many tricks!
@@jouhajohnny Hello! I tryed 147 and also 148 thunder trucks and i had alot of problems with the bushings! It felt really weird to stand on the board! Then i got high 5.6 venture hollow lights with 8.25 april board. I then tryed the hard bones bushings and felt way better and stable when standing on my board! After skating a couple of months with this setup (venture high 5.6 hollow lights & 8.25 april board) i felt like both trucks and board were to wide for me. So i got 8.125 april board and got high 5.2 high venture light trucks! Again im using the same bones hard bushings and also 52mm bones slim street formula 99 wheels! I feel stable on my board but i feel that the board follows my body when i do flips alot more then before! So i defenetly look forward when the new season arrives so i can skate more with my new setup! I think its up to each rider to discover what works best for them, what size of board, trucks and wheels work or what brand of trucks to use! I been skating on thunder trucks 3 years and skated on venture trucks only a couple of months. Good luck!
@@Filip1ve Nice 👍🏼 I recommend trying to find Deluxe Supercush bushings in the same hardness as the bones because Bones bushings change the geometry of the trucks. Use those deluxe supercush bushings and the stock spacers on them and I think they will feel more stable than bones. I ride 5.6 V-Hollows with 88d Deluxe Supercush bushings and they feel so good. Btw those Deluxe Supercush bushings are the same as the stock ones but they have more hardnesses available 88d to 99d I think. Ventures come with 94d bushings
Thanks Ben for this review and vid:) Venture trucks are good, I got my first crooked grinds with them. The metal is "harder" than the Indies "butter feel", but it's good if waxed enough or on metal bars. Nice to see your tricks, bigspins and full cab flip:)
Ben Degros can’t wait for this one. Loving all the videos Ben! Really appreciate all the time, work and knowledge being put into each of these videos. 👍
These have reached the upper level of the truck pantheon for me. They're more or less my go-to on flatter decks. It's just a happy medium between everything and I've actually grown to like the little lag time between the lean and response, it makes me feel more comfortable when I'm setting something up and my balance is all goofy. If you're a longtime venture low rider you should try mini logos.. I know you lose cool kid points for riding them but no one else is making low trucks past 8" to my knowledge, and I really like the snappy pop and how stable you feel on a low truck.
I have an 8.25 that I need trucks for. It's my widest board yet. I may have to take a look at those Ventures. I'm not in a rush, though. Rockin' an 8" Creature Everslick on Tensors still. It's a tank.
the stan smiths look so good. i wanna say the first guy i saw skating them was rick howard in goldfish. i got half cabs because of mike carroll, then stan smiths cuz of rick. i want another pair!
Venture 5.6 Titanium HI are the same height as 6.1 team HI. The 5.6 Titanium has a forged baseplate and the 6.1 standards have a cast baseplate. Cast baseplate looks thicker. However, the axle are matched exactly even level. Not too sure about you're statement about the hollows being 52mm or 53.5mm. I'm sure it's Forged as it looks different and have a 5.2 V-hollow lo with same forged baseplate. Regardless, it's good to see you enjoying them! Hope I get to enjoy the 5.6 when the time comes! (got it as a gift)
My thunders are getting ground to the bone. I saw these at my local shop, might just pick them up! I think they’ll take away the slightly heavy feeling with my pop that thunders have, especially with the 14 inch wheelbase I usually ride. I’ll be a regular Bobby Worrest!
David Bowie and his alienforce re working on Trainwreck Trucks! 100% stardust without a kingpin with 69 gram weight and programmable baseplate. May I finally get off the way to expensive thunder im riding since 2004. Seriously tho.. Ben you're insane, love your content!
iv got the v lights 5.6 which is basically exactly the same as the holllows just with a solid axle. i love them and they are working so much better than my thunder 148s were, i agree about having less turn but they definitly feel more stable than anything else iv ridden,
I’ve ridden just about every truck that was in the top tiered category. Thunder, Indy, Ace, then Ventures...... Thunders broke the kingpins and hangers same along with Ventures. Ace and Indy’s have held it down for there turning radius’s. Now not for nothing Thunder and Ventures are great for tech and gnar rail chompers. I think and this has been my evidence that the metals on these two trucks has always been an issue.
I wonder what happened to Tracker. My first trucks were Tracker 50/ 50 and then I had some "Tracker lights". This was 89-91. They were the lightest trucks in the business back then, lighter than Thunders.
I have been on thunders for several years after being on Venture. Unbeknownst to me Venture made a truck for 8.25 decks. I switched to some 5.2 Venture los for my new fav size deck: an 8.25. My brain is telling me this is wrong to have set up like this with there being a 8.25 specific truck on venture now. Am I being a baby with madness and there isn’t anything wrong with it. Don’t want to go down in board size.
Thank you for your chanel. As a 36 years old guy who just started skating agin after 18 years, i realy enjoy you content. Can you make a review about high and low trucks?
i just ordered some 5.6 high standards, haven't got them yet. i have a set of 5.0 lows from '90s on one of my setups, love them but would like them a bit wider i think
Hey Ben, LOVE your channel. I recently bought a pair of Venture Titanium 5.6 highs. (The P-rod sig). Out of the box they did not turn well, the stock white bushings were pretty bad. I replaced them with Bones medium bushings, the white ones with the yellow cap, and the trucks came alive. With the Bones bushings I much prefer the Ventures over my Indy Titaniums. Thanks Ben
if you compare trucks turning it would make sense to use the same bushings - maybe bones - to have a better comparison. Anyway, thanks for the GREAT vids and big up for the high level skating skills ! Learned fakie board 270 out yesterday, started skating 4 month ago after a 11 year break. Nice times.
Hmm I need a set of trucks for a cruiser/curb board...realistically all I can skate anymore, maybe I'll try out some ventures. They'd be going on a funky EARLY nineties shaped deck I picked up that's 9" over the front truck and 8.25"in the rear. I know it isn't your style, but what would you put on it?
Got me hyped for the tensor review but then you posted this! Lol. Actually got me considering trying ventures, which I stopped using in the late 90s cause I didn’t like them for some reason. Good inside about how tippy a truck feels before it turns. That was one thing I don’t like about my indys, but interestingly enough I had been wondering why my manuals were better on them. Originally thought it was the weight factor. Now I got some paying attention to do.
Got these recently and I love them. Most people's main gripe about them is the turning, I put some Thunder bushings in them and they fit perfect and makes the turning really nice! I have found the grind is a little weird to get used to and kind of unpredictable.
Since March (or the pandemie to look more 2020) i Switch from Venture 5.2 low to Indy 139 low and back to Venture 5.0 low on 7’’,75 or 8’’boards (only for 5.2 and 139). I think about the 5.6 on 8’’ boards but i never try. Anyway, like you said there good and bad whit everything! But actually, Indy 139 low on a 7,75 whit F4 50mm is really great when your shoes size is 5.5! I can’t understand people whit little foot on big boards!
I cant wait for the mag light reviews i have them but i havent even broke them in yet bacuse i love my thunders but i think thats gonna change as i recently got indys 2 days ago and i love the turning on them

I watch vidz daily... and I’m Sure I can still do some stuff... just wondering how old you were because of the mid 90’s talk.... my era 95-2001... hay day... back tail shuvs... front side flips on mini ramps.... nose blunts on butter benches.. now I want to learn all flat ground again...... thanks dope videos!
Did you notice a ”gap” between the board and the forged baseplate on the Venture 5.6? I don’t know if it even makes a difference or if it’s due to my boards having a large wheelbase combined with the venture baseplate that does not have “centered” holes for the hardware. What I mean by “gap” I mean that the baseplate is not connected fully to the board on the side closest to the tail/nose.
Great video Ben. You've got some great technical skills going on. You should try putting up some sound barriers in your studio space to decrease the echoes.
Ben thanks for all the videos, I've enjoyed watching your stuff over the last couple years. I'd love to hear your thoughts on overall height on a setup. Maybe a video where you compare two setups. Have the board and bearings be the same for both setups, but in setup A have low trucks with smaller wheels, and in setup B have higher trucks with bigger wheels. Could even have the wheels be of the same make and model, just different sizes.
Ben I don’t know why but I feel if you take the top washer off the venture you’ll have a better experience and I’ve got so much turn with my lean , try it out for a day and see what you think
It's been in the mid to high 90s here so I haven't really felt like getting out and skating much. I think I may set up a different complete though. I have a Fancy Lad deck(8.75) I got recently and my old indies, old lockins, and my old bearings, could be interesting to see if I like Thunders or Indies more. I've been on Thunders for the last several years now.

I used to have a pair of Venture back in 2005 , my set-up was a Mystery deck 7,625" , mini logo bearings and pig wheels , but someone stole my Skateboard. 😞. So I went to buy a new set-up and I rode Fury Trucks Arto Saari pro model , bones wheels and PlanB board. Around 2012 I had Royal trucks but they are not that great, they seemed a cheap copy of Indy, so in 2015 I quit Fury and Royal and I decided to try Indy which I stick with now. But I will rebuy some Venture at some point.

Did you like the thunders
"I'm rollin" too funny. love me some ventures
I can't believe I uploaded in 720 again! It's just some dumb setting on my new computer. I need to remember that.
How the Ventures feel
Sic vid man wud love to see a series on skate pants
Well your in luck!!!! Give me a couple weeks.
Well your in luck!!!! Give me a couple weeks.
Ben Degros can’t wait for this one. Loving all the videos Ben! Really appreciate all the time, work and knowledge being put into each of these videos. 👍
theories cargos are solid and built like tanks but super comfy....
I ride venture trucks, and for me is the best trucks I ever had.
Omg I got these on my board. Just switched out the bushings to a hardcore bones bushings. I like them.
How's the turn with the bones bushings in them, are you able to get them to ride pretty loose?
The grind sound on the ledge you made 😍
hey I have question I am getting ventures today which should I get V hollow or V lights? and what size for 8.125 5.2 or 5.6?
@@carl2614 Depends on what you like but I prefer V-Hollows and I would buy 5.2s on 8.125 board
My thunders are getting ground to the bone. I saw these at my local shop, might just pick them up! I think they’ll take away the slightly heavy feeling with my pop that thunders have, especially with the 14 inch wheelbase I usually ride. I’ll be a regular Bobby Worrest!
They still have a heftyish pop. They are just light once you get that tail snapped.
You need these trucks and real/krooked twin tail deck to be a regular Bobby Worrest 😎
Just recently went from GK disruptors to venture lows. Much more stable and tighter feeling. I love my GKs tho on my.mini ramp dedicated board.
David Bowie and his alienforce re working on Trainwreck Trucks! 100% stardust without a kingpin with 69 gram weight and programmable baseplate. May I finally get off the way to expensive thunder im riding since 2004. Seriously tho.. Ben you're insane, love your content!
:)
iv got the v lights 5.6 which is basically exactly the same as the holllows just with a solid axle. i love them and they are working so much better than my thunder 148s were, i agree about having less turn but they definitly feel more stable than anything else iv ridden,
I have a pair now as well..Rob..these are dreamy.
These are probably my favorite trucks ever my 2nd favorite are Thunder hollow lights 148
I wonder what happened to Tracker. My first trucks were Tracker 50/ 50 and then I had some "Tracker lights". This was 89-91. They were the lightest trucks in the business back then, lighter than Thunders.
i skated thunder 147 and they are good but then i tried my old venture lows for my 7.5- 7.75 decks and i noticed i could manual better with them.
Perfect timing was literally thinking about going and buying some of theses today!
Best intro I've ever seen.
I’ve been on these for a while. Great trucks.
Same
Thank you for your chanel. As a 36 years old guy who just started skating agin after 18 years, i realy enjoy you content. Can you make a review about high and low trucks?
Been watching your drywall videos for a while. Kinda digging them. Now I know you skate I subscribed to both. Great videos buddy
i just ordered some 5.6 high standards, haven't got them yet. i have a set of 5.0 lows from '90s on one of my setups, love them but would like them a bit wider i think
Hey Ben,
LOVE your channel. Thanks Ben
Whoa! A switch Ben Degros special?!?
they’re my favorite trucks. i have em in low 5.2 though.
if you compare trucks turning it would make sense to use the same bushings - maybe bones - to have a better comparison. Anyway, thanks for the GREAT vids and big up for the high level skating skills ! Learned fakie board 270 out yesterday, started skating 4 month ago after a 11 year break. Nice times.
I have the Kader's 5.8 Pro Model Trucks, I like them so far...
I keep flip flopping between my Indy 139 titanium’s and my venture 5.6 titanium’s. I feel like I just gotta have both 🤷🏻♂️
Got me hyped for the tensor review but then you posted this!
Probably the cylinder bottom bushing is effecting the turn feel, the swap to cone fixes it 🤷🏻♂️
@@reup4023 Yep! Don't know why Venture uses the barrel in the first place.
because it makes the trucks more stable for tech tricks. a lot easier to set up on ventures without the trucks turning in and getting all squirrelly
@@krisb.8702 I don't feel like they lose much stability with the cones if any at all.
I turn my stock Venture bushing to à double cône like thunder and i like it à lot!
There is no indy lows bro
Bro I have a homie that is a size 7 shoe 5'3" tall and he can tre a 8 stair on an 8.5 with 58mm wheels and indy standards
I cant wait for the mag light reviews i have them but i havent even broke them in yet bacuse i love my thunders but i think thats gonna change as i recently got indys 2 days ago and i love the turning on them
Almost sounds like a pitch asking them to sponsor or flow ya some trucks 😎 it would be smart if they did
good to see your own ledge feature in there :) thats the ledge i found your channel through my man
Love the content i caught the 9 club interview... 1. Question i have 147 thunders good for a 8.25 deck i skate tight

These are the only trucks I skate. I am thinking of trying new Thunders tho... I find old Thunders would wear out really quickly for me.
PS: after you said I’m rolling and then in the next clip you should have said “I’m falling”. 😉
Damn dope tricks at the end! How old are you? I’m 38 and I want to start skating again... been skating since 13.... til about 33 then career really took over .... got the bug again...
I think he’s the same age as you
I got mag lights, they’re alright. I had to use 2 1/4” riser pads with them but they’re amazing fro slappys
great review super in depth thank you
Did you notice a ”gap” between the board and the forged baseplate on the Venture 5.6?
I don’t know if it even makes a difference or if it’s due to my boards having a large wheelbase combined with the venture baseplate that does not have “centered” holes for the hardware. What I mean by “gap” I mean that the baseplate is not connected fully to the board on the side closest to the tail/nose.
Great video Ben. You've got some great technical skills going on. You should try putting up some sound barriers in your studio space to decrease the echoes.
Please do 5.8 ventures review
So much skate knowledge. Awesome stuff 👍
Best intro ever
Ben I don’t know why but I feel if you take the top washer off the venture you’ll have a better experience and I’ve got so much turn with my lean , try it out for a day and see what you think
It's because the stock top washer binds into the hanger, putting on a flat bones washer (or just bones top bushing) fixing it.
this is my favorite channel on youtube
It's been in the mid to high 90s here so I haven't really felt like getting out and skating much. I think I may set up a different complete though. I have a Fancy Lad deck(8.75) I got recently and my old indies, old lockins, and my old bearings, could be interesting to see if I like Thunders or Indies more. I've been on Thunders for the last several years now.
It was non stop rain all June here and it's only just getting nice now.
@@bendegros The struggle is real. That board is set up now. Maybe I'll be brave and leave the AC to get a bit of skating in.
Here in Georgia it's been 95+ and 100% humidity which makes it easily 100 so I feel that on a spiritual level
@@thesharinganknight That must be brutal. Normally I'd just try to skate after sundown, but I work a horrible schedule(wake up around 3am to be at work at 4am). I skated today, but I just got home and am a sweaty mess and I should have been in bed a while ago. Hard to get to bed early enough for a decent amount of sleep even if I try to though.
The Sharingan Knight North Florida landscaper here, that heat index is actually sitting closer to 110* in the shade and even higher in direct sunlight
Ben thank you for this review. I had these on my list to purchase but was wondering about them since they were hi’s. Currently I’m riding Almost Mullen 8.25 Venture 5.25 PRod hollow lights bones wheels 52’s. I finally found a board and truck combo that “feels” right for pop but it’s something mental about not having trucks that match the board size. Thanks again for all of your hard work and effort. We appreciate you. A old man just getting into it(me). Thanks for the inspiration. Or maybe I’m just being a baby😀
:)
I tried that set up and the wheels were to far in , definitely played some mind games with me as you looked down at the board. Pick up some 5.6’s , you’ll enjoy it.
Venture 5.6 Hollows you say? Send ittttttt 😎
Sweet video Ben I'll keep watching I been watching your vids for 2 years.....😎🤔👍
Ben. I would really value your opinion on Tensor Mag Lights. I used them the other day and the lightness was amazing. But didn't get to test them that much.
My best trucks !!
The hangers are aluminum or something but I fought hard for simple grinds. You almost had me sold but can't do it. Thanks Ben!
wax the ledge
Go faster.
Try them still though
It's true, Venture are the only trucks that matter. Just ask PJ Ladd.
Ventures have a comfortable *Pop (for me).
+ BONES bushings, cranked medium tight,
_oh yea!😎_
I used to have a pair of Venture back in 2005 , my set-up was a Mystery deck 7,625" , mini logo bearings and pig wheels , but someone stole my Skateboard. 😞. So I went to buy a new set-up and I rode Fury Trucks Arto Saari pro model , bones wheels and PlanB board. Around 2012 I had Royal trucks but they are not that great, they seemed a cheap copy of Indy, so in 2015 I quit Fury and Royal and I decided to try Indy which I stick with now. But I will rebuy some Venture at some point.
skating ace af1 55 rn, about to switch to my venture hollow 5.6...... wish me luck
I've been looking for a pair, I got standard venture 5.6 I love, I also have a pair a few pairs of indys but I really dobt like them now that I'm over 200lbs
I have the standard 5.6 and the 5.6 hallows, trying to figure out what the hell fits well on a 8.25 with a 14.00 wheel base.
@@reza_dc2 5.6 ventures or 144 independents are 8.25, im not sure what thunders are but honestly I wouldn't put to much thought into it, back in the early 00s I didn't even know there where different sizes amd I had been skating awhile, I just went to my local shop and grabbed what i liked, unless your doing primo slides which most of us don't you won't have much of an issue, ill throw my 8.25 on an 8 deck or vise versa and you'll get used to it
@@Shao.Lin69
I was the same way when I was younger. Now that my feet have grown , gained weight along with height , it feels like these little factors all have to line up to get you that proper feel. I may just buy a pair of Indy hallows to give me that true wheel base feel.
@@reza_dc2 I only skated indys back in the day but now that I'm 100lbs heavier I don't really like the stage 11s even with bones hard buschings they turn to much for a far guy
Honestly, the clips here look pretty good, maybe the noseslide flip part was a little bit dark... hope your camera endeavour is going good! Keep killing it.
Hey Ben have you ever tried tensor trucks before? I have the regular 5.5 aluminum alloy ones and I wonder what your thoughts are on those.
I like ventures. They feel like a better indy imo. I wanna get a pair of thunders next.
Jacob Pie Did you skate the lights, or the regular ventures? I ride 8.25 independents standards right now, and i’m not sure what to get
marc flaherty currently on the 5.8 standards. I recommend them. I do recommend putting in after market bushings in them. I’m skating old indy hard (blacks) and they feel great.
Do you like these better than the Kaders? You seemed to get along really well with the Kaders
I just bought Reynolds indys. Maybe I should have bought these.
Love these videos Ben!
🙂
I've got the 6.1 highs but I'm currently trying to get some forged hollow baseplates on Ebay to get those 6.1s lower. I found some used and now it's just a waiting game to see if I win them.
did you get them?
Yeah I won them, they were in pretty good condition and they were 5.8s, so totally usable size hangers to boot.
@@sidwellsk8er nice
If I could share photos on here I would. www.ebay.com/itm/233728896131
And that didn't work either, it is what it is.
That chunky ledge is a blessing compared to my local ledge spot😭
Venture is one of the lightest trucks tho they never felt clunky to me only downside is if u use a skate tool u gotta angle that shit in a weird way unlike an Indy truck but iv always rode venture ever since I even started skating
I'm just wishing for the shops in my country to stock up in Ventures. It's mostly Indys in here
Btw Have you tried changing the bushings on your tensors?
Might try ventures , I love tensors mags but I wanna try something new
That intro sitting flip was way to clean 🧼
wonder if replacing the bushings with like bones or something would help turn better
