But with this guy it's more like turning fruit, sugar and yeast into wine. He's a legit talent. He spent 4 years in Tennessee with our D-line coach and was great last year but just ok this year. So the lions don't need to do much, just add water to the fruit, sugar and yeast and we'll have wine
Yeah, what are you talking about more on you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. He’s really good. A lot of the Miami players coaches. Everybody was shocked that he got let go but they waived him to get a tight end. He had 113 tackles last year he’s instinctive decisive Quick, tackler violent
With our D line coach being with him on Tennesse the whole time he was there I believe he knows exactly what his strengths and weaknesses are and will help Glenn to put him in the best position to have success with us where he can really use his strengths. He’s great in the run, and great at blitzing.
Longs film from the past 4 years on UA-cam, he looks a nice addition regardless of where he ends up playing. Another player with a chip on his shoulder that has something to prove. Probably take a few weeks to get him up to speed with our scheme.
Such a good channel, insights, and great perspectives. Love the way you share information and make us well aware these are your opinions and experiences... You know your stuff, and i appreciate you sharing it with us
I would be very surprised if he was any kind locker room problem or clashed with coaches. He was elected team caption this year plus the Lions DL coach worked with him at Tennessee so it isn't the same position, but it's close and would know him well. Great pick-up and the Lions luck continues in my opinion, would you rather be the Chiefs signing a WR bust Thornton or the Lions getting a 6 year veteran with plenty of success in the NFL Not going to be a starter, but he might be a contributor and would expect he can play STs well. Totally agree he will be 1000% motivated to show the league and make a role on this team.
Malcom was already banged up and played both on Defense and Special teams. David Will most definitely be playing on that defensive line, we are missing alot of players.
@@creatorscornertv4706 Martin is coming back as well, so we've got a bit of depth back on the D-line (thank Heavens). I think he'll probably take some snaps on ST and play in spots to spell Campbell and Rodriguez. Dude's a chess piece and will be useful for Glenn, Shepp, and Co.
The other day my dad asked if the NFL allows trades right before playoffs because you see guys like Odell and the former Ravens safety added to rams or Denver adding Hillman back in the day. Of course its not trades just released players. So give Miami props for releasing a quality veteran who can add value to another team. I bet many teams wouldn't even if they choose to run with rookie back up and no longer feel guy is a scheme fit. So thank you Miami
To be honest, I think he'll be a great depth piece to replace some of what Campbell and Rodriguez are doing currently. Campbell has done surprisingly well in coverage this year, so he can help cover for Anzelone's absence and Rodriguez has done it as well. If he can set lanes, spy, blow up running plays, call out spots on the defense, and play smart, he's more than welcome.
As long as he comes in and puts in the work, I have a hard time believing they wont get the most out of him, they've gotten good production out of guys with less of a track record than him. So as long as he wants to be coached I have no doubt he'll find success in Detroit.
Hey Coach, Miami signed Long under one DC, then they switched Defensive Coordinators this past offseason. I’ll trust the previous 4 seasons of tape over this half season with a bad DC
Thank you for the analysis. Is it possible his apparent focus on the QB is that Long;'s role was a spy? Murray is a pretty good running QB. While I know little about him, I have heard Anthony Richardson is running QB. Plus we have Green Bay with mobile QB, Chicago also has a mobile QB and then Buffalo; I don't think Buffalo beats Kansas City without Allen escaping the pocket. Long might have been brought in for that purpose.
We are a run stopping defense first so that will benefit him at least. And the dolphins scheme looks more like a read and react and Detroit is more a react defense.
I just don't think he fit the scheme that Miami was trying to run. Detroit on the other hand he will fit like a glove. Detroit is a very physical team that likes to hit. I can see Detroit using him on blitz packages to get to the QB and obvious run plays. He likely won't be a every down linebacker but with his speed and his ability to shoot gaps and get pressure on the QB will be a asset to this Detroit Lions team. Not only that he is reunited with Terrell Williams and Terrell knows his strengths and weaknesses. I firmly believe that Detroit got a good one and hopefully we see glimpses of the David Long Jr we seen when he played for the Titans.
@@Eihthypethose are last years numbers. He’s been horrendous in 2024, which is why Miami waived him. Something like 14 missed tackles in 6 games. Hopefully a change of coaching and supporting cast brings him back to form, he’s still only 28. He’s never been very good in coverage but if he can be a run stopper, it’d be a welcome addition with Barnes, JRM and now Anzo out.
@Brocuzgodlocdunfamdogson ok. Thanks for letting me know . Because I knew he was the defensive captain and the said the D coordinator scheme he didn't fit because he couldn't pass cover but I know he can run defend pretty well. An I was thinking the same change of scenery can do wonders.
Watch Holmes and Glenn turn water into wine with this guy lol

Thanks for the introductory analysis Coach. I can’t expect a lot off of waivers this time of the season but Long Jr. could definitely help out.
Nice! This is great news, I didn't even know we added anybody before this video.

Holmes just adds amazing depth to the second level immediately after his Captain LB breaks an arm.

If you noticed the only linebackers that were starting for the lions were anzalone and Campbell. Now it's only Campbell and who else lmaooo
@@Fallingfloors97 Malcolm Rodriquez isn't a bad LB in his own right. But yeah, Lions need depth in the room and dude should be good for what we need.
Thanks for this, Coach! Really good breakdown and analysis. Very helpful to assessing his play going forward
Thank you for the video.
Have full confidence that LBs coach Kelvin Sheppard and DCs will maximize his strengths as a player
Going to a super bowl caliber winner so I'm sure he gonna play even harder

Is he good on special teams? I could see him filling rodrigo spots on teams with Rodriguez playing more LB.
Malcom was already banged up and played both on Defense and Special teams. David Will most definitely be playing on that defensive line, we are missing alot of players.
He played a lot of ST in Miami. He’d be a good fit to fill JRM’s shoes while he’s out with injury.

David was a DAWG before he and Vrabel fell out. The dude can wreck a game like that. Excited to see him get some snaps in Detroit -Titans fan
Thank You, Coach. I was about to do the research myself and low & behold you already did it.
Lions adding captains from other teams in mid season.
Sounds like he got frustrated with the coaches and was punished. Good player with something to prove on a strong team?? Welcome to Detroit!
I remember when people wanted Long for the Lions a few years back. He was another steal by Brad Holmes. Welcome to Detroit Mr Long.
The good thing is that Terrell Williams was D line coach for the Titans.
If we can hold onto these guys we will be even better next year on defense

I can see him stepping into Campbells roll and Jack moving into Anzo’s spot
Go Lions 🦁 🏈
I'm guessing 15ish snaps on 1st and 2nd downs for Indy. I'm guessing Terrell Williams had an opinion of the guy.
Yeah, he’s definitely not gonna be out there on passing downs. Coverage is his biggest flaw.
Before the video even starts. Dude got a C on that jersey, enough said.
Let's Go Lions 🦁
David long maybe a step up !! He can cover
And check out do he do that with running quarterbacks or just passing quarterbacks? It's a lot of running quarterbacks in the AFC

The word on the street is that he was a liability in coverage in the Dolphins system, and rather had problems fitting in.
WE SHOULD SIGN JAMON DAVIS FROM GREEN BAY PRACTICE SQUAD
Additional comptence with a chip on the shoulder? Sounds like a Lion.
It seems strange for a starting player with a Captain designation to be completely cut from the team. Why?? It just does not make sense.

I’m not expecting him to fill Anzo’s shoes; but he could probably fill in for an injured JRM on special teams, maybe a snap here and there on defense.
Supposedly, with changes in Miami's coaching, Long ended up a " bad fit" with their new defensive approach/philosophy.
When is d Barnes coming back
Most likely not until 2025. Assuming the Lions re-sign him. I personally hope they do.
Malingering just like Davenport and Cominsky
Maybe he's terrible in the double move. Check out the film if he get beat on double moves
So he's like another jarrad davis?
