Good Grief. Audrey as a councillor. It's something out of a nightmare. Her whole campaign was an absolute farce. The woman is vanity personified. The photos she had took were very presentable. But oh no she goes for a photo from the 60s and 70s which looks absolutely ridiculous. Must admit I had a chuckle at 4:17:35 seeing her poster covered in graffitti. Though somehow it's hard to picture Audrey as a strict French Mistress haha. But either way her and Fred Elliott use devious tactics to win the election. Spider would have my vote for sure. Fred Elliott is an obnoxious loud mouth bully who gets what he wants by shouting above all others or bribing them with meat and money. Really couldn't stand him at all in his entire run of the show. The character is definitely one of my least favourites. The gas fire storyline with Rita was an issue that definitely needed to be raised. Carbon Monoxide poisoning was and is an all too common killer. But one that may not immediately think about when installing gas appliances in the home. Barbara Knox plays the symptons of CO poisoning very well and I felt so much sympathy for Rita. It also highlights the importance of installing gas appliances correctly. Personally I don't blame Alec gunning for Steve McDonald. He could have killed Rita. Hayley and Roy. This is one of my favourite storylines and one of the good things to emerge from the Brian Park era. The scenes in Amsterdam were absolutely beautiful. I also thought the time Roy spent helping Hayley clear out her dad's house was touching. Roy was always there for her and vice versa. Definitely one of the reasons 1998 was a better year for Corrie.
Alex was not gunning for Steve on Rita’s behalf, he was doing it for his own ends. Rita told him to leave it alone, but Alex is such a sad little man, he is always into someone else’s business, trying to swindle whomever he can.
Of course, the football tournament they were talking about was the 1998 World Cup, which France won against Brazil. Zidane scored two, Petit scored one. 3-0 Martin Platt was nearly right with his 2-0 Zidane prediction. Of course this was filmed months in advance with semi highlights slotted in.
