I just started a new painting-a portrait of King David rejoicing as the Ark of the Covenant came back into Jerusalem.
This is a commissioned portrait that will be put on the cover of Russell Stendal's book, a Biblical commentary on the life of David.
My goal?
To paint him filled with joy, dancing before the Lord with all his might, as it says he did in scripture. David had a lot of ups and downs in his life, so I can really relate to him. I know what it is like to be deeply discouraged, almost even to the point of despair.
But after seeking the Lord, or when some kind person in my life encourages me, light arises in the darkness, and I am happy again!
This is that kind of moment that I am endeavoring to capture here. Pure joy!

Where did you get your reference photo? How did you get a photo of the building?
You said sepia toned canvas, so which colors did you use to achieve that?
Raw sienna, raw umber dark, burnt sienna, and titanium white.
What color did you use for toning the canvas?
Raw sienna, burnt sienna and titanium white I believe.
