Valleys Xtreme Lite Race 2023 - When Enduro racing in Wales goes very wrong!
First race of the year at the Valleys Xtreme event near Neath in Wales. We took part in the Lite race which is a 2 hour blast around some quite technical trails. As ever the Honda CRF 450L was amazing but this time a few rider errors meant it didn't all go to plan.
Hope you enjoy the vlog, any questions please ask or just leave a comment. - thanks for watching!
Just entered this and enjoyed watching your footage! Will check out the other videos now.
Great video!! Thanks for sharing!
Shit Mike, sometimes things just aren't meant to be and you're very right "that racing". Losing the rear brake I thought "Christ, what terrible bad luck" but the fact you carried on them them conditions I thought 'Brave Man' but then to have your glasses smashed you made the right decision. Live to race again. Brilliant video enjoyed watching
Cheers dude, really appreciate it 👍🙏
legendary! you ere going faster without the brakes! crazy 🙂
Well just passing the riders in the slower groups
Good effort mate do well
Hi Mike - I was at the race watching my Son do it on his KTM 990 - I chickened out and didn’t enter so fair play to all who entered and gave it a go - it looked hard work 👍
It was tough, but so much fun, you can't beat the racing in Wales!
@@twowheeledadventuresuk2739
I’m probably over Thetford way on my T7 over the Bank holiday so will ride your Sudbury Cambs route if I get chance
Cheers
@@ridinggod143 well hope you enjoy it and let me know how you get on 👍
New subscriber on board. Great vid!!! Well done too. Good information at the beginning and actually a good inspiration. Cheers!
Thanks and welcome
Great vid and fab to watch - terrible bad luck with that rock and your glasses but I guess that's racing
Hi Mike. Loved the video. Gutted things didn't go to plan but glad you had a good time and enjoyed it.
It was awesome, great event for riders and spectators 👌✌️
Good work, despite the result. Well filmed and edited, too.
Thanks
Mate really gutted for you not much luck at all on this one but like you said it’s racing. I’m the guy in the pink and green kit next to you on the start. I actually won the clubman class this time but I’m normally in your position 😂😂 better luck next time dude
Cheers mate - are you doing the Brit rally champs, might see you at Brechfa then - well done on the win, will be back next year with the bit between my teeth!
I was in the race I wondered who knocked that rock out, it was there for the whole race 😂
I couldn’t have lifted that up, I was bloody knackered already 😩🤪🥳
Well done nice vid.
I was a muppet on the ktm 950
I found this really tough this year much harder than last year.
I’ll share this vid with my mates.
Thanks - yeah I watched a few vids from last year and it seemed easier, must have been pretty tough on the big bikes
@@twowheeledadventuresuk2739 I couldn't take it to be fair my arms gave up annoying now looking back I should have carried on but I could see me being a passenger when it was going to go wrong hey ho I got some more UA-cam content at least.
I don’t think most people realise how physically demanding it is, I hadn’t ridden in a while and my arms were feeling it
@@twowheeledadventuresuk2739 yeah I was the same last race was September at sweet lamb. I suppose it easy to forget how long ago it is.
I see it's not just us here in the north having awful weather. Looks like a lot of fun! I mean except the falling over and stuff...
Hell I’d do it all again with the same result in a heart beat, such fun😀😉😎
Great video, I need to get my CRF450L out more. I’ve the 300 Rally and it’s just easier to ride so makes me lazy. I’ve a new ECU on the way for the 450 so I’m hoping that will make it a nicer ride and take away the horrid stalling and on off power delivery.
I might even see you at an event on it next year.
Why do you say it's easier to ride, Id of thought it was more difficult being heavier and worse suspension?
I’ve done a lot of modifications to the 300 including the suspension. I can hang onto the 450 for 2 hours but I can ride the shite it if the 300 all day in the dirt. Hard to explain I just find it a lot more user friendly when it comes to the technical stuff. I’ve a GET ecu on the way for the 450 so I’m hoping that will transform the bike.
@@mervsbikingadventures let’s hope so. I certainly have no issues riding all day, the Vortex certainly transformed the bike from standard but the FMF exhaust and 450x header made it so good low in the revs on the technical stuff. I know a lot have issues with the throttle but I think my MX background means I’m just used to that and have better throttle control. I’m sure you’ll love the GET tho 👍👌✌️
I’ve just bought a G2 throttle calmer for my 250rx. Haven’t had the chance to try it but check out the reviews as they’re meant to transform the Honda throttle control
@@horster2783yes I have the G2 in it and now the GET ecu and it’s a different bike altogether.
Check out my valleys lite video on my Chanel.
surprised to see all those 2 strokes in the liberial UK. I figured all 2 strokes would have been banned!
Nah, enduro is very much a 2 stoke game, still a few clinging on in MX as well. The Evo (older than 92 I think) MX series in the UK is massive.
Who was racing the 1977/78 SWM ? Classic bike !
No idea, didn't see it, but yes a nice bike
You want to try the dawn to dusk brilliant event
When and where is that?
@@twowheeledadventuresuk2739 it’s in the same place bank holiday weekend in august. 6hr 12hr or 24hr you can do it on your own or with a mate or 2, the same people run it
@@theoldskoolboyzzzz6958 ok thanks, will check it out, hopefully won’t clash with the Brit Rally bike champs 👍
I use a visor off-road helmet.
Be no good in most races as the roost would smash it in no time same as it did my glasses. I wear my Klim Krios Pro sometimes, mainly for when I need comms as it has a built in Sena, or I just want some music whilst riding. In that race I should have just stopped and cleaned my goggles, but had already lost so much time I was panicking a bit - lesson learned, won't do that again!
How much where the new fecking glasses as well though 😂
Just cheap ones from Amazon, ordered some safety sports ones today, see if they are any better 👍
Good video, not long bought a 450l 👍,the little multitool looked handy , what make is that?
No idea. It came in one of the naff tins you get at Christmas, cyclists too kit! I nearly started with nothing but felt a bit naked so chucked it in my camelbac at the last second. I normally carry a little pouch with just about every tool in it to fix the bike, tyre levers, spare tube zip ties etc.
@@twowheeledadventuresuk2739 😁😁
I ride with glasses, do you wear goggles over yours? Any misting issues?
I’m not in to racing tbh but after seeing a few mates enter this event this year I may have to consider it next year.
Not normally unless it’s very cold. Raced all last year in glasses with goggles over, no issues apart from once when I was riding in cold weather, stopped and was hot and sweaty, then I misted up. Normally once you get going you demist as soon as the air starts flowing. On Saturday I should have just stopped, cleaned the inside of my Google’s and carried on. Stupid mistake really.
On the racing issue just don’t see it as racing, see it as a mass participation event. You are not obliged to race, go fast, do the most laps and put Steve McQueen to shame. I would guess for the overwhelming majority, myself included, you are only ever in a battle with yourself. I go because I love the atmosphere, the craic with mates, camping, fires, beers, trade stands, expensive burgers, looking at bikes, listening to bikes, talking about bikes , dreaming about bikes and riding a course you just can’t ride any other time. You can do one lap, 10 laps or just half a lap - yes there are those that are quick and ultra competitive, but they soon blast off and do their thing - you just do your thing, what makes you smile and go home happy 👍✌️
@@twowheeledadventuresuk2739 I like the slower more technical stuff really but I also get carried away with speed sometimes, I’m 52 now and don’t bounce as well as I did 😄
@@big-bike-tough-trails5114 I’m 50 mate, was racing MX until 4 years ago, raced with a guy who was 65 then and he’s still racing - there’s no age limit to having fun, trying new things and setting new challenges - I suppose I’m an adrenaline junky, always just done stuff that made me tick, be it downhill mountain biking, racing dirt bikes or taking on the Taliban - life gets very dull and boring in that final wooden box
Go there prepared for these things to happen maybe carry a Acerbiss bum bag few tools
Spare clutch lever, front brake etc .
A piece of that blue paper towel stuffed up in your visor to wipe your goggles spare tear off's that Honda is so much better than them 2 strokes much better bike
Live & learn
Yeah I normally have a bag on my bars with cloths in for wiping my goggles, normally have a daypack with tools/spares/spare goggles, certainly what I do in the Brit rally champs but decided to go light for this one as it was just 2 hrs and a bit of fun - rally champs is a series and racing for points, this was a quick 2hr blast early in the season to shake off some cobwebs!
