I barely scratched the surface of the circle of fifths in jr. High. I thought I understood it, but I'm really excited to dive in deeper!

But I don’t think Paul Simon is referring to the Circle of 5ths when he’s writing. I suspect whatever he’s doing related to that tool is more intuitive than planned. When The Beatles first hit America, music critics lauded their use of the Aeolian Mode. But they didn’t even know what that meant.
Good songwriters use their intuition to write music as close to the original spark of inspiration as possible, whether guided by music theory or not.
Everyone needs guidance, theory give you that.
I agree, though it cant hurt to learn all that you can. My biggest inspirations though are those who mastered the instrument without much instruction or theory
yeah and good engineers build bridges with their intuition regardless if guided by physics or not
@@Aethelvlad Art is VERY different from something like that. Art you can either teach yourself and master your own technique with various inspirations and sources, or master through learning as much as possible and constant improvement. Bridges and stuff MUST be accurate and nobody will like it if its not cause thatll kill somebody LOL

Art and Engineering are the same thing- just because people die when you do one poorly doesn't change that it's a human endeavor that requires both intuition and structure to do well; that, when done well, is appreciated as more than the sum of its parts.
Thats where it may start, but one is never bound by it.

The beatles actively tried to learn music theory, and now its very easy to learn due to the internet.
If you want to be the next nirvana, then put on a costume and shoot heroin; it may be popular to be a bad musician, but this type of channel is not about being a pop/grunge star; it's about being a good musician.
and the Beatles appreciated the theory behind their music, as do most popular musicians; you never hear anyone say "fvk music theory" they say "i wish I'd learned more theory so i understood what I'm dong that's so popular"

Books take a long time to read, sometimes several days.
Some books can drag in the middle.
Dialogues can sometimes be unrealistic in books but come to life on the big screen.
Pros of watching movies over reading books
Movies are quicker than books.
You can watch a movie with a friend, but you can’t read a book with someone else.
You don’t have to concentrate on a movie and there is less need for your own imagination.
Acting is an art form.
Cons of watching movies over reading books
Scenes are often adapted or deleted based on what looks better visually.
Viewers are often left asking questions because scenes from the book not being included.
Characters can often be drastically changed.
A key aspect of telling a story with your lyrics is the use of descriptive language and imagery. Use vivid and evocative language to paint a picture in your listeners’ minds and help them see and experience your story. Use sensory details, metaphors, and other literary devices to bring your story to life and engage your listeners’ imaginations.
I think I have a good enough musical ear to use this with out realizing but every way I’ve heard it explained, I don’t think I’m ever going to know what it actually means or how to explain or describe what I’m doing. I’d like to but I really can’t grasp what any of that means

I read the book 📖 first and then watch the film. And if you read the book and then watch the film you get more details for me I read the book 📖 the outsiders and then watch the film 🎞 and I realize that the movie 🍿 have less details like it’s like a broader overview of the subject but don’t give you the details. Books give you details if you read it more than 2 or more times similar to a recording album 💿 like say your favorite 🤩 artist is tears for fears and the album 💿 the seeds of love ❤ if you listen to the first time great 😌. But if you listen to it 2 or more times like 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 you’ll knowtice these details that are in a book 📖 for me if I had to choose for stronger between book 📖 vs movie 🍿 I would choose stronger by Jeff beauman because I would read it over and over and over again and find those details and books strengths your brain 🧠 and also books 📖 also more details because people want more details about the book 📖. While movie 🍿 it’s quicker and broader too.
I would need to see some proof or even a cogent argument that “only the best songwriters use the circle of fifths” - I contend that plenty of crappy songwriters use it, and many of the best songwriters didn’t even know what it is. You can use it to rationally explain a chord progression, but proving (for instance) that Paul Simon “used” it to create “Kodachrome” is a stretch at best. Do you think he consulted it on “Still Crazy After All These Years” too? 🤡
