Another acoustic guitar maker to consider in that price range is the oft-overlooked Canadian guitar company, Seagull (a brand of the Godin - pronounced go-DAN - guitar company based near Montreal). I have a Seagull that I bought new about 5 years ago and I love it. I think it was maybe US$400 or so.

Key signatures and the Circle of Fifths always just seemed like a memorization task to me. Last week I realized that my Violin and mandolin are tuned in 5ths (well I knew that) but the strings being GDAE are the exact start of the circle, string one G has one sharp, string two D has two, A three and E four such an easy way for me to remember. Doesn't quite work that well on the guitar but it was helpful to me. I've just started sitting in on bluegrass Jams with these instruments and most songs are 1, 4 & 5 chords thinking about intervals much more.

Seagull S6 is awesome!
Going in reverse in the Co5ths you get Circle of 4ths.
Beadgcf is how the guitar notes are laid out on the guitar (save the B string). You can find this pattern all over the fretboard. Use top 2 strings and work down the board. It's an easy way to learn the fretboard notes. Look down the strings on the B note and look at the pattern as it's laid out this direction way as well.

This was a lightbulb moment for me… Every B is next to E, E to A, A to D etc. unless it’s B string then it’s down one fret. Somehow never realized this.

I got the Martin DX1E Kao last year for under $500 at a local shop, and was lucky to get it. It's the nicest acoustic guitar I've ever owned (I also have a 20+ year old Yamaha that I keep at work to plink around on) and a real joy to play. It's a laminate, so it's a breeze to keep clean, and it sounds so good! Highly recommend!

There are good deals out there in. I got a Martin special D Made in Bethlehem on Reverb about five years ago. The guy wanted 800 but I told him I only had 600 and he took it

As a former northeast wrangler owner, I am surprised you didn't get the wave. The practice was alive and well a few years ago :(
It's still alive and well. But I definitely felt I was being punished! They came around by the end of the trip though.
Takamine are incredible guitars. I own two and thinking of getting another one. Yamaha as well do make excellent ones. Again, two in my possession, actually 3, but one needs repairwork. I never paid more than 500 € for any of my guitars so far, and am perfectly happy with their characteristics. People often ask me, what guitars I am playing...
Well, i am having to admit, for the 3rd year now i always put Elixir strings on them, hey ... but that was before Sean started telling me about them

A Taylor GS Mini might be a great choice for a beginner. 23 something scale, easy to play sounds great! It will also hold its value! I keep one next to the couch and play it every day! (I have 40 more also LOL)
If I remember right, the 1, 4, 5 in each key is one of the very first things I learned. Just take 1 simple song and play it in each key. Note, B and F excused for the first round. LOL That's what I coach folks to do anyway. Having fun out there Sean? 8) --gary

Thanks, are you familiar with BEADGCF circle of fiths tool? You can quickly capture the structure of the fretboad just rememebering that sequence of notes.
Interesting thing with the 5ths making the pentatonic scale, if you keep going and make 7 notes its creates C lydian

Yeah that’s also an option. They’ll put the music up on UA-cam as well. Just keep in mind they’ll create a channel and post the music as compared to adding it to your personal channel if you already have one

I am writing this from the future. The UA-cam algorithm placed this as the first video on my home page today so I decided to view it...again. I know I saw it last year. Here's the sad part. It took the second viewing for the C of F's relating to the Pentatonic scale to sink in. Even worse, I've been staring at a C of F's diagram on my wall for over 3 years.

Do not buy a Jeep -- any model of Jeep. Terrible quality and frequency-of-repair record. The only brand any rational car buyer needs to know is Toyota (and its various subsets, such as Lexus). My Rav4, my first & last Toyota, is losing Huge sheets(yes, sheets) of paint. On recall. I year back up to repair because Toyota used defective paint for 11 YEARS. Arrrggghhh. Also accelerates with no prompt from me. NOT AWD. It’s a slip & grip. Piece of crap.
