I’m coming out of veterinary medicine….. I’ve decided to switch to digital marketing. Zero experience. Zero education. I’ve started researching, UA-cam, practicing on my own with small projects. I will be that 1%. ❤ thanks for the advice.

Dude your videos have been so good and educational. I'm transitioning out of the Air Force after 5 years and have been really lost on what I want to pursue. Currently working on getting an IT certification, but I think I am more interested in pursuing something in marketing because I love being able to network and talk to people. I have some family members that work in the marketing field and I've become super interested in it after hearing some of the things they do. One area I've discovered (not entirely sure if it is considered marketing) that I like is something to the effect of a digital content manager. I'll continue to watch your videos for more inspiration!

      Hey Joe,
Sounds like a big transition, you got this, my man!
If you like people, you might want to look into:
      - Being an account executive / manager at a digital marketing agency
      - Work at experiential marketing agencies (think marketing w/ events). A company like Mosaic comes to mind
      - Work at an influencer marketing agency and be an account rep / agent
      ^ there's lots you can do :)

I'll be honest with you, I saw this video was 21min long so I got reluctant to watch it. Started on 2x accelerated speed but then I noticed some quality in it and dropped down to normal speed. I watched the whole 21min and it's just a piece of gold right here. Thanks for the advice. I'm looking for a job in Toronto now. I have all my experience in digital marketing in a different language so I don't really have a portfolio in English to show off to employers which was making me really nervous and making me feel underqualified. But now I see a path. Thanks for that.

I actually found out that google has a ton of courses that you can buy for cheap that actually goes into implementing things and you get a certification certificate after completion. I’m doing 3 of them & I’ve learned more from that than my 5 years of college. With SEO, it shows you exactly what to do and how to find key words to use. Hey Alif,
Great video, I live in Toronto as well, about a 10 min drive from York University :P
    Had a couple of questions:
    1. You mentioned having a side project that you can put on your resume using marketing terminology - how important is it that you achieve quantifiable results with this project? (I.e. If I run a blog, is it enough to say I can copy write, write creatively, optimize my titles for SEO, etc. or do I need to have a certain search engine rank on Google, certain amount of traffic, and / or a certain number of social media followers in order to be taken seriously by agencies?) Are results as important as having the experience?
    2. Related to the above question, did you create a portfolio showcasing your work in addition to that 20 min video you made? What sorts of pieces did you include in your portfolio?
    3. When starting out, do you recommend focusing on just one area (i.e. SEO, copy writing, or paid ads) and mastering that, or do you recommend becoming a jack of all trades?
    4. Do you have any experience with Acadium? Sometimes it’s difficult to obtain internships unless your a student… curious if you’ve had any experience with them in order to build up that resume and portfolio?
Any advice you have in addition to this video would be great, I really like your strategy… want to follow you as much as possible :P Thanks again!

    • @alifhuq86
      @alifhuq86  8 місяців тому

Hey! You live pretty close to me, that's wild! To answer your questions:
1 - The more results you can provide, the better. Even better if you could link to the blogs, too. If you can't that's fine, try to air on the side of more quantifiable metrics and more proof of work.
2 - From what I recall, for this approach, I didn't include a portfolio. But I do use them a lot nowadays. I'll be releasing a new video in this topic soon.
3 - If you already know what you want to do and what skill of digital marketing you like the best, stick with it and become really good at it. The more specialized you can get, the more you'll get paid later on. If you don't know which route you want to go, I'd recommend starting in a generalist role, figuring out which skill you like the most and then double down from there.
4 - I don't have experience personally using them. I heard mixed reviews, but generally leaning towards the positive.

Hi Alif! I'm back watching this video again. I've been taking your advice and getting a few interviews but have yet to land a job. Do you think this strategy still works in 2023? Is there anything else I could add to make me stand out even more from the crowd of applicants now? Love your content! Thanks for sharing the advice!

Hey Emily, do you mean you've landed coffee chats or job interviews?
If you've landed job interviews but can't seem to pass them, then I advise you to focus your efforts on your interview skills.
If it's coffee chats / informational interviews, here's what I'd recommend you do:
(I'm going to assume you have digital marketing skills already)
      - Ramp up the number of coffee chats you do per week
      - Post call, add the contact into an excel sheet, and every other week, send them a message to keep yourself top of mind for them (if they post content, leave thoughtful comments on their posts)
      - If you see one of your contacts has a job opening, do the strategy I describe in the video where you go out of your way to provide value to them via a project
To answer your question, does this work in 2023? Yes.
      Let me know your thoughts!

I learned it through reading many blogs and practically implementing what I learned in practice.
The good thing about marketing is, you can learn it without going to school.
If you need specific next steps, dm me on Insta, I'll send you some resources.

Hi, I have a Shopify website selling stuff and previous image/video ads for fb ads in Canva, do you think these can be some kind of portfolio to show to future employers?

    • @alifhuq86

Hey Atiq, that's a great question. Yes you can definitely use this in your portfolio. Something to note, I'd also add the results of your sales and conversations in the portfolio along with the link to your site.

Do you think I can find a job in a small company as social media manager without formal degree or schooling? I'm thinking about stopping studying communication and dedicating myself 100% to studying marketing through online courses to work at a company in the United States, I need advice

    • @alifhuq86
      @alifhuq86  2 роки тому

Yes you definitely can. You don't need a degree to do social media. I'd recommend you practice social media non stop and make a portfolio of all the success you were able to attain. From there, if you want to get a job, don't rely on online job boards, instead, reach out to potential hiring manager / managers on LinkedIn (just like how I outlined in this video).

hello sir, I really want to get a job in digital marketing, I have achieved the google professional certification in digital marketing and e-commerce. but the problem is that I am 17 and in pakistan. So, that is a really huge problem as nor agencies nor companies are willing to hire me, due to these two reasons. Any Advice will be helpful.

Are you trying to get a job? Or are you trying to land clients? Regardless, it's not enough to do a certification; you have to have hands-on experience. I'd recommend doing some free work, then building a portfolio, and then reselling yourself through the portfolio.

@@alifhuq86 well I am trying to land a job. And I have a little bit of experience by doing short projects. And even for free work I have applied for 9-10 places and they don’t accept my application even if I have stated that I will work for free for some period of time.
