You just earned my sub. By far the best descent tutorial in msfs I've ever seen, not just for the 737-800 but for all the other planes too. Your explanations of the aircraft systems, fmc, as well as what to do in certain scenarios is amazing. Keep up the good work!
WOW, I must say...really great video. I am an Airbus pilot and now enjoying MSFS with a 737-8 and, boy...it is a challenge after a few decades on the Airbus...THANKS A LOT.
I've been flying this plane for the last two days. Like the A320, I've been using mostly LNAV and not entering all the data for the speeds, etc....This was a great tutorial and can't wait to delve more into the data part so that I have everything covered.
I was constantly slamming the 800 into the runway at about -450 / -500fps landing rate, or floating due to ground effects. After this video I haven't landed over -150fps. I like to set a 10 mile perimeter around the airport and try to be at 170knots when I cross that threshold. That has been a big help also. Thank you for this channel
Ok I finally found MSFS tutorials that don't suck. You are the FIRST of all the landing video's I've watched that explains WHY the discontinuity exists. I have fucked up SO many landings assuming you just go directly to the end of the STAR and not past it.
You are the first person I've seen in all the PMDG 737 videos that I have watched that explains the VORLOC mode. I have been a heck of a time landing as I'm always missing glideslope and overflying the airport. I've finally been able to land thanks to your VORLOC and APP tips. Thank you.. Subscribed and liked.
Man Tysm! I was flying completely fine except for my speed on landing. I could never get the plane to slow down, but your tips completely solved my problem. Thank you so much man. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for this series. i went from having no idea how to fly this thing to being able to do my first ILS approach. Your tutorials are really clear and to the point and obviously well researched and written. keep up the good work :)

@FlightSimSchool Thanks for making this series Marc, I just got the plane a few weeks ago and am loving it. Just when I thought I was pretty confident with the systems, I learned 4 or 5 nuances that you shared in this video! Keep up the great work and it looks like you'll be hitting 20k subs in the near future!
great video and explanation. looking forward to the next video's in the series. What i would like is that you make a video where you make a short stop at an airport to drop some passengers and then again start-up for the next destination
Thank you so much! Managed to go from cold&dark to landing and taxiing to gate thanks to your tutorials! Much more hands-on than the Airbus but I really enjoyed flying this bird. Thanks again - You definitely earned a subscriber 😃
You forget to mention that you don't need to disengage the auto throttle or the autopilot, because if you actually enable both autopilots (cmd a and b) and keep the auto throttle on you can perform an autoland and you don't need to touch the controls at all. This works better on longer runways since the autopilot can sometimes flare for too long but it always gets me safely on the ground. This only works if the runway is equipped with ILS and not RNAV.
At 8:47 what is the curving line at the top of the triangle that represents the airplane. Just a turning indicator? Thanks for your videos! I find ths FMC more cumbersome to program than the one in the 787.
Such a good tutorial, thank you! I’ll be sure to watch ur other tutorials on 737! It never used to be by favorite airliner but watching a few of your videos makes me love it! Do you have a video for the go-around procedure, especially for flying in busy airports with clogged runways?
What I do is configure the plane fully for landing before disabling the autopilot, like that I don't have to touch it and it's set it to the right spot for landing
Hey Mark - LOVE your amazing tutorials, trying to learn more about the PMDG 737 and your work is TOP NOTCH!! - Would love it if you went over some of the different settings/modes for the auto pilot LNAV, VNAV, Alt hold etc etc - Basically if you would break down this panel the way that you did the FMC !!!!
Hi there....for an autopilot autoland landing on a ILS is it better to enable VORLOC rather than pressing the APP button in order for the aircraft to capture the glide slope localizer then once the aircraft intercept the localizer then only press the APP button then only the aircraft begins to descend on its own to land at the runway with both autopilots on?
Finally! Was waiting for this Video the entire week! Could you do a video how to do a VOR Appr. in the 737-800? I find it quite hard to do a proper landing without a guided glideslope..
I hope it was worth the wait and helped you with the plane :D And sure, I was thinking of doing RNAV first since that’s more common these days, but I could swap the order.
@@FlightSimSchool Yes, well worth the wait! I bought the 737-800 two weeks ago and your videos were very helpful and in my opinion the best tutorials around on yt for the 737 at the moment. But I have one question regarding the ils approach: I thought you need to activate both autopilots for the approach, or is this only necessary if I want to do an autoland?
You’ve taught me so much about this plane. Watched all tutorials! I was wondering, in terms of the forecasts page, my cruising altitude was FL300, so I input FL310, 200, and 150. How do I input the 100? There’s only 3 spots to input on forecast page
That’s a great point, I had never really noticed it before. I never really look over at the APP mode once GS has captured. I believe that’s the correct behaviour, but I’m not 100% sure.
Hi Marc, this is a very good and educational video. I’m pretty familiar with ILS landings with the PMDG 737-800. But I’m struggling with a kind of bug. As long as the wheels are connected to the ground it’s impossible to toggle the VS button and LNAV button. During the take off the moment when I am not connected to the runway anymore, I can toggle the buttons which become active with the green light. For sure there is some configuration needed to fix this. I know in real life you can already toggle the buttons before takeoff so you only have to press the CMD button to fly on autopilot after the takeoff. Would be great if you have the solution! Thanks in advance 😁
Hi Pascal, yes I’ve noticed that issue as well. Sometimes it’s because I missed a step in the FMC, but often times I’ve done everything right, and it still won’t arm LNAV until I’m airborne. It might be worth creating a thread on the PMDG forums to see if anyone else has any insights.
The altitude on the overhead panel is for the pressurization system. If I remember correctly, it's rounded to the closest 50 feet, so you would look on your approach chart, find the airport elevation (usually in the top part of the chart), and turn the knob to set it to the altitude closest to that.

Stupid question, the speed tape keeps shifting upward and downward when I’m trying to lower flaps to their respective position on landing. Now that I think about it, on my first few tries I did have similar issues, in my case it was because I was trying to do too much in too short a time. I made my final approaches longer and it helped to slowly bring the speed down on the speed dial.
I'm having an issue where this plane keeps going vertical on me whenever I am on a final approach. I will get on the glideslope and turn on app mode and both of the autopilots and whenever it gets close to the ground, it will disconnect the autopilot and go vertical. I can't get this right. When I try to taxi after landing or taxi in general only one of my engines work and the other is stuck in reverse thrust in the PMDG 737-800 I've tried everything anyone have a fix?!
That sounds like a conflicting binding issue when you toggle reverse thrust. I’d check all the bindings and make sure there aren’t any that are causing opposing effects.

@@FlightSimSchool oh I haven't watched that one yet because I thought I already knew flight planning from years back, I just got back into MsFS after a few years off and needed better understanding of landing. The new MSFS2020 is so different from FSX. Keep up the good work 😁
Aint no way nickeh30 is a pilot now, crazy!
He must be my long lost brother, I do kinda see the similarity...
@@FlightSimSchool but great content though man really helps
