  • Hi all, I'm a PMDG tech team member and real life 737 pilot. Here is my next video in the 737 tutorial series.
    In this tutorial we will commence our approach into Dublin.
    I'll cover the ten checks, discuss some energy management techniques, show your the FRISC check, capture the ILS and follow Localizer and Glideslope. We will finish this tutorial just prior to the landing gate as the landing deserves its own practical and theoretical videos.
    The video has been taken using a pre-release beta version of the product, so you can expect to see some issues that will be fixed before release. There's no need to point those out as the team will be aware and working on them already. For example the trim sound is not yet implemented.
    If you like my videos please consider a small donation as it's taking a lot of time and effort to create these.

    These tutorials are not designed as absolute beginner tutorials. It is expected that the viewer already has basic experience with airliners and knows the basics how to operate an aircraft.
    Instead these tutorials will focus on the 737NG as an aircraft and the particularities of how to operate it.
    I'll be closing this introduction by saying that I'm not a professional UA-camr or Streamer quite yet and these videos are my very first that actually get more than a hundret clicks. I have never before created such content so bear with me for doing beginner mistakes.
    I record straight from the sim without any fancy stuff going on in the background.

    Thanks for the great video (again)! Could you perhaps do a video on a steep approach (>3 degrees)? I would assume you need the speed brake to slow down then, but it will be important to have the speed under control before capturing the glide slope?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 роки тому +2

      Considered! You're right, it's most important to have the speed under control before glideslope capture. If you catch the glide at more than F10 placard speed you can forget about the approach and start a new one.
      Even 3.2° in Malaga (often paired with strong tailwinds until short final) can be challenging.

  • @Wokkelp

    Again, super good tutorial. I’m watching them all and taking notes before hopping into the 737 (only flew airbus in the sim before). But ehmmm, you’re performing Approach procedures during the Landing checklist. Is that normal? When do you set verf+5 and extend flaps 30? Before the checklist I presume? Also, in the landing checklist you go over speed brake….armed but in previous tutorials I never saw you arm it? Should that be done when you set up the auto brake or do you wait with that until the checklist because you might have used it to decelerate or lose extra altitude?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 роки тому +3

      You start the landing checklist when commanding gear down flap 15, run the checklist down to flaps while they are extending and then once the flaps are out to the landing setting you complete the checklist. That's how we do it in my company.

    Another master class, just a quick question Emi, a bit off topic, on the CDU Simulations page 2/10 (if it's still the same as on the NGXu), A/T Manual Override. What would be the most realistic option to set there?. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ones again.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 роки тому

      Thanks! The option still exists as it was in P3D. However answering your question is really hard.
      The obvious answer would be to set it to always override. However: I guess your hardware throttle will NOT move together with your simulated thrust levers at all times.
      That makes it problematic. Personally I'm using the "override in ARM mode only" option so that my joystick doesn't interfere with the A/T unless the AT doens't want to do anything anyway.
      Is that most realistic? No. Is that most comfortable? Definitely yes.

    • @FlatOutMatt
      @FlatOutMatt Рік тому +1

      Jet engines don’t technically need anything to ignite the fuel in the combustion chambers once they get running…however, having the electric igniters firing constantly helps guard against an accidental “flameout” during a critical phase of flight. I believe they are also turned on when engine anti-ice is used, for the same reason…keep the fire burning 😅

    Hi again. just to follow up on my latest comment on the distance not showing up on the nav display, where you said it was a bug in P3D. So in this video (11:10) you have the distance to the DME, on both the VOR 1 and 2, so I dont understand. Is it because this ILS has an DME as well?

    thank you captain , i am wondering how to calculate the transition alt at the approach , keeping in mind the altimeter and the trans alt given by charts , so you calculate the flight level transition alt ..

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 роки тому +1

      The transition layer (area between TA and TL) needs to cover at least 1000ft. You need to take into account both temprature and QNH in order to determine where the TL must be.
      To make it simple for flight simming purposes: If the QNH is less than 1013 use 2000ft between TA and TL. So with a TA of 5000ft you could make the TL FL70.
      If the QNH is above 1013 use 1000ft, so with a TA of 5000ft use FL60 as TL.
