    Girl….. I am 100% with you on loc count piece. I mean I didn’t know it was a thing until I decided to get these locs. I’m now 9mos in and loving, LoOVING them. But that first month had me all confused with people insisted you can only have Sisterlocks if it’s 400+. That is not possible for me with my fine hair and small head. Once I shut down that foolishness of “ how many locs” my journey has been smooth sailing. I mean why not, my hair looks good (shrinkage and all!). Please ladies don’t get caught up in that nonsense; just enjoy the ride. Also girl I don’t rock the baby hair either. Im too old at 50 and for me it seems weird with locs.

      💕 Yes, girl!!! I totally concur 100% with everything you said!!! Thank you for watching my video. I'm glad you are loving your loc journey and happy with your results. Like I said in the video, your genuine happiness with your loctician's work is the only thing that matters!!!!!

    I agree that count shouldn't matter however remembering to when I was doing my research it was hard to know what to ask/plan for when so many at the time were not sharing their number (or were sisterlocks with very small locs /very large numbers). I ended up doing my microlocs install twice because first set were ultimately not small enough. I currently have 345 but to others it looks like more.
    Its more helpful to point researchers to pictures of your head before install so they can see if density/head size is similar. I have dense hair but someone with thin hair and my head size won't get my look if they put same number I have. What I've also told others that seem fixated on installs with large numbers is to check more recent videos/post to see how many of their favorited or pinned looks ended up combining their initial installs.
    As for the color yours look good. I've been using rinses because my disrespectful grey's are popping up all over my hairline and I'm not ready for that yet. :)

    For example, I have a small head, I do not need anyone to tell me my loc count will be less than that of someone else with bigger head and similar sized locs. Loc count is only a guide and nothing wrong with sharing to help as a guide.

      💕 Thanks so much for watching!! I have better things to do with my life and my time than sit & count my locs, lol. So I won't be sharing my loc count with anyone because I have no idea what my loc count is. Lol. But if another girl wants to already be aware of her loc count in advance so she can share the info with women who have a similar hair texture because they want a similar look, then she should go for it and share her loc count. I ain't going for it if someone asks me that loc count question, lol.
      But then again, it's important to note that even if 2 women have similar hair textures and one of the women wants her locs to look similar to that other woman, that's not a guarantee that that will indeed happen. I don't think women should have that expectation that their locs will look "exactly like" or "similar" to their loc crush. Because every woman's results will vary; every woman's Sisterlocks journey will be unique and different to that individual. It's not healthy comparing yourself/locs against another human being. You will become paranoid and drive yourself crazy doing that.

    💕 Thanks so much for the compliment on my black dye!! And yes, the thickness & thinness of hair plays a role, too!! I'm so glad you mentioned that, especially for the reason you explained.

    When I discussed whether sisterlocks or microlocks would be preferable, my loctitian said that with sisterlocks I’d have prolly 400 locks and fewer with microlocks. I told her I didn’t want the smallest size locs because I was more concerned about breakage and maybe needing to combine locs later on, plus I didn’t want to spend long hours getting reties. But after watching videos where people obsessed over loc count I got worried that my hair wouldn’t look as full or voluminous with less locs. I’m 18 months in and I know better now. I got what I asked for and I’m happy with my locs.

      💕 Yay!!! See, that's all that matters at the end of the day is that you got what you asked for. You're happy. And I'm happy for you. And you're right: the smaller the locs, the more time you spend in your loctician's chair. My reties takes 1 hour. I can't imagine my reties taking more time than that.

    Your hair is pretty…☺️ very neat grid on point. As for me less is better 🤷🏾‍♀️ and grid on point 😉. Many don’t care about grid after while 😒 but retie I want to see my grid personally. I say that, to say this I jus took out 341 braidlocs bcuz too tiny 🤦🏾‍♀️ and starting over after 4 months in 😢 was very unhappy with how they looked I prefer 2-strand with braid at root to tame my natural body; retie was frustrating I couldn’t take it anymore 🤦🏾‍♀️. So I’m going to establish myself and maintenance as well, hell I learned fast how to interlock, retie, crochet and grid 😮. I’m not licensed but damn show quick learner ☺️

      😮 That's so sad you had to start over!! I'm sorry to hear that. But hey, at least you now know what you want and have a plan going forward.
      💕 Thanks so much for watching my video and thank you for the compliment.

    Loc count was important to me in the beginning because I was trying to gauge what my hair would look like based on the number others had. Now that it’s matured I don’t care anymore.

    I’m interested in loc count because I want to have an idea of how my locs will look when they mature. I know that loc counts will look different on everyone so I try to find others who have a hair density similar to mine.

    I put in my second set of locs and counted them about a week later. 345+ locks I knew that would be too much to maintain. I do all of my loc maintenance myself. I’m on my third set now and I have roughly 240. When I first started researching locs I would come across tons loc count videos they helped me determine how many locs I need for my hair type and also how much I am willing to maintain on my own. I initially wanted sister locs, ended up going with braid locs instead. I like loc count videos to see if there are any similarities between the two.

      😳😲 Wow!! You're on your 3rd set of locs. Whew!! I hope this is your last set and that you're happy with them. But hey, at least you found what works best for you, especially since this is your 3rd set. And that's amazing that you maintain them on your own. I'm sure you're saving lots of money that way. 👌🏾

    Everyone has a preference of how they want their locs to look. Loc count of people with similar hair type is important, but only as a guide. It is helpful to know loc count to give you an idea what to ask for when you go to the loctician. It may not be important to you but important to share for the benefit of others.

      💕 Your very first sentence was a reiteration of my entire video. So thank you for that concise summary.
      💕 Let me also add that I have better things to do with my life and my time than sit & count my locs, lol. So I won't be sharing my loc count with anyone because I have no idea what my loc count is. Lol. I used the loc count to see what my locs could potentially look like. Watching someone with 400 + locs verses 200 locs looks different in styling. Other than that the count is irrelevant.

    • @anishkajf
      @anishkajf  9 місяців тому

      💕 Okay. People like to use loc count to determine whether or not someone truly has Sisterlocks. It's so annoying. 😩🙄

  • @makeemswaya

    I know loc count doesn’t matter but my locs resembled yours and started out too big to begin with. I originally had 87 sister locs😐 which means she was just playing with me lol I wound up having 201 similar to your sizing but it wasn’t what I wanted. After a yr of being locked she later said that she could have went smaller which was something I knew as well 🙄 im now in the process of combing out those locs and getting actual sister locs. I know loc count doesn’t matter but some people will just play in your face

    • @anishkajf
      @anishkajf  6 місяців тому +1

      🥺 I'm so sorry that happened to you!! The way my Sisterlocks look now, they did not start off this way. They were teeny-tiny, itty-bitty. But as the months progressed, my locs slowly but surely swelled and matured to the size they are now -- which is the size that I told my loctician that I wanted. She was very skillful and knew what size to make my locs during the installation process.
      It sounds as if the person that you went to isn't thoroughly trained and certified to do Sisterlocks because if she was, she would have had the knowledge NOT to start off that big. You can find out if your loctician is certified by going to the official Sisterlocks website.
      Are you going to someone new who is actually trained and certified so they can redo your hair the right way??

    Great video! Your Locs have so much body. What routine do you have. My Locs are not stiff but they don’t move like that LOL! Please and thank you

    • @anishkajf
      @anishkajf  11 місяців тому +1

      💕 Thanks so much for watching my video!! It's greatly appreciated. First of all, my routine is simple: I wash it once a week, I use a microfiber towel to squeeze out the excess water, then I'll air dry it. When I go to bed at night, I'll pile my locs on the top of my head into a "pineapple." And when I'm home doing nothing, my bonnet stays on my lil head, lol. I don't use any oils on my scalp or locs. I used to use oil, but after getting to know my hair better as time passes, I discovered that my hair doesn't need oil. Lastly, I'll sometimes mist my locs with a lightweight hair fragrance. Dassit, dassall. Lol. *Bonus tip: I noticed that whenever I take my locs down from its "pineapple," my hair has body & volume from being piled up on the top of my head. It actually looks as if I used a flat iron to "bump" the ends. So the "pineapple" at night is a must for me because I love the way my locs look when I take it down.
