There is something not discussed in this video which I would love to share my theory on: Asami's last words - why does she repeat a bunch of lines originally used to manipulate Aoyama into falling in love with her? Heres a refresher on the lines: - “I thought I’d never see you again. I’m so happy I can’t stop smiling” - “I’ve been on my own my whole life, I’ve never had anyone to talk to” - “I’ve never met anyone like you, so warm and comforting” - “You understand and accept me, no one ever did” And here’s my theory: For Asami, the Audition didn’t end at the casting call. That’s simply where it began. Instead, the whole film - the developing relationship between Aoyama and Asami - was an “audition”. One which she passes with flying colours, as once Aoyama has successfully fallen in love with her, that’s when Asami metaphorically “lands her role” of playing the part of Aoyama’s torturer. As mentioned in this video analysis, Asami was an outcast who failed to assimilate into society. However, she was taught (or more accurately was forced) from a young age to perform through her Ballet. This would support the notion that although she didn’t fully understand society or the people within it, she did understand how to put on an act. And thus metaphorically “dance” to the tune of what others in society wanted her to be. In this case - Aoyama’s desired bride. So to wrap up my theory on why she repeats these specific lines at the end - it’s to reveal to Aoyama and the viewer just how brilliant of a performer she is. In fact, she’s so damn brilliant in her “role” that she can literally remember the exact lines word for word, which were crucial in manipulating Aoyama to fall in love with her. In other words - these lines are her “script”. And as soon as she loses control of the situation (after being pushed down the stairs). She defaults back into “audition” mode. Simply reading lines from her script again. Like a child repeating something they know, in an attempt to achieve a desired outcome. And as a BONUS BIT - It’s also entirely possible the reason she knows this “script” so well, is because it’s not the first time she’s used it. They’re likely the exact same tried and tested words she used in order to successfully lure in the music agent (who she now keeps in the bag). And heck, they could likely be the same words she’s used on countless previous victims also.
I don't think her reciting the words was literal. Considering we see her exclusively from Aoyama's point of view in that moment, I personally think it's a drug-induced hallucination representing his grief and despair. That even after the monstrous things she did to him, Aoyama truly believed he'd found something special, and deep down still wanted Asami to be what she'd presented herself as, not as how she truly was.
the film went from uncomfortable to outright disgusting, but the way Asami was sent flying down the stairs I found almost funny, like, Shigehiko must be strong as fuck
Fan of my Countrymen I see. I'm glad that something other then that stupid awful K=Pop is getting some attention. There are so many better things that come out of Korea I have no idea why it got so popular. Movies, actors, actresses, directors. Much better and deserve some love thank you for highlighting some of it for people.
I think the thing I love most about this story is how it plays with the roles gender and power play in relationships. In the first half of the film, ayoama is trying to prove himself to Asami by showing off his money and power so he can “earn” sleeping with and marrying her. This is a very common mindset for men when dating, especially older men seeking out younger girls. Asami is similarly trying to prove herself to be what he wants, to earn his love and thus her spot as his torturer and potential killer. She is the extreme mirror of the kind of predation ayoama and many men perpetuate onto the women they date, feeling like they can ever have a right to another individuals body. Ayoama feels like he’s earned his right to do with asami and her body as he pleases bc he’s spent time and resources on her and treated her like a human. What he does not know is asami feels similarly entitled to his body, albeit in a more gruesome way, towards the end.
Even if Asami was a victim of sexual torture by her depraved family, it's no point in taking her wrath out on innocent people. There's a quote and motto in my favorite book series that sums up the consequences of wrongdoing. "Once you take that first step, there's no turning back."
yah, but that assumes the person is rational enough after years of trauma and mental illness to recognize that they are behaving in inappropriately towards innocent people. Trauma re-wires your brain, especially when it happens in childhood
To me there is a message I got with Shigeharu Aoyama That when meeting or forming a love life be carefull of who the person might be as you never Know who and what your dealing with as you never know a persons past until you see the truth about theme

interesting detail i just realized. she explained how her aunt pushed her down the stairs breaking her shoulder. in the end, she is again pushed down the stairs, before she possibly dies.
@@vksasdgaming9472 Yeah, Ichi would probably the more interesting choice for analysis, given how conflicted he is, at least as i remember him from the movie. Granted i've seen it in, probably my mid teens, which was 'bout a decade or so ago.
This is definitely the most sickening, disturbing and depraved analysising evil I've seen. That said, after watching these videos I found myself watching Orphan trying to mentally Analyse Ester the same way The Vile Eye does.
@Questioning Especialy that’s what makes Ester so tragic for me. She is a victim of circumstance beyond her control. Like you stated she just wants to be loved and desired by a man. But due to her condition this is impossible. Yes theoretically she could just hook up with a peodophile. But that in Ester’s eyes would not be a normal relationship. She desires to be seen by men as a woman and not a child. But even then, that is only half the problem solved. She is still incapable of bearing a child due to the injuries she sustained while being abused by her father.
"Audition" was one of the hardest watches I've ever experienced. I still don't know if I saw the full thing or not, and I really have no intention of ever finding out. Everything in that film was pain.
I'd love to see a video on Lee Woo-Jin from the film Oldboy. He's just so complex and sadistic and dedicated to his singular goal that I think hed be an interesting subject for one of your videos.
Yeah but it couldn’t be a long enough for a video. The video would also be more about his plan than him as a person. His motives can be explained in a minute and he doesn’t get a lot of character development
I always feel so bad for child actors who fill roles like these, and hate the filmmakers that choose to create them. That child's mind is still developing, and she has to act out being fondled and tortured? That is horrible
Pay attention to the framing and editing in such moments. Movies have a million ways to make things seem like a continuous sequence taking place at once. I don't know about child actor protection laws in Japan, but assuming they did their job protecting the child in Audition, that scene was probably shot out of sequence with the actors not necessarily even present at the same time. I recently saw Evil Dead Rise, and if the actress playing the little girl had actually been exposed to all the horrific stuff in the film, even if it's all fake, she'd probably be in therapy for years.
In most horror movies, childeren don’t have any idea of what’s happening. They shoot scenes with childeren seperately. They edit them together in the post production.
It's all a dream, it's his way of identifying with the trauma of her past. His subconscious relates the physical and emotional abuse of her childhood to a single excruciating experience, where the character realizes that his emotional pain at losing his wife cannot equal the pain of her abuse. Which is initially what he was attracted to, and though he had in common with her.
That would be very unsatisfying if it was "just a dream" I don't think these details being shown the way they are in the movie are dream like, there's few points where it is kinda him in another "reality" or state of mind, but I feel like what's happening is actually happening
I think the dreams were used as a sort of mix of flashback about Asami's past and Aoyama's nightmares due to fears\guilt. I didn't like them too much, however, since they added confusion to the viewers (and spawned such absurd theories that it was all a dream).
The most ridiculous scene in the movie is at 10:34 when he shoves her with his foot she doesn't stumble and fall down....She FLIES down the stairs with full force haha.
This is why i withhold judging a persons actions because some actions have a lifetime of experience(reasons) behind them that explain why the person acts the way they do, or have towards me. I recognize my own ignorance to judge a persons life or their actions. Yet i need to judge actions in order to make good decisions and estimations.
Perfect choice she most definitely belongs on this list the events that lead to her becoming a killer is beyond tragic no wonder she went insane. Next you should do a video on candyman of the candyman series.
i wish he would have touched on Aoyama's role in why she did what she did. he is not innocent at all in this and actually I disliked him more than her in the end. Her mind is obviously warped from a lifetime of abuse (not an excuse just an explaination), Aoyama is just a lonely old man who used deceit to lure her in. so he fit the criteria perfectly
@@laurendebruijn2325 Insane thinking. Someone that tortures innocent people is somehow less likeable than a lonely widower that accepts his friend's advice to do a movie role + a blind date audition? The guy wasn't bad, the plan was to do a movie and score a girlfriend out of it with intentions to marry. There's nothing even wrong with that, he was nothing but cordial through it all if a bit deceptive (which she also would be deceptive considering she's a crazed killer and doesn't reveal that tidbit of info to him).
“This character is one that provides us with an image of the grave ramifications of child abuse.” Spot on as usual, Vile Eye. A lot of people, real and fictitious, fall into the same group.
OMG I never thought you'd cover Asami. I remember watching it the 1st time and made my hair stand during the torture part. Sheesh... Still gave me the chills rethinking about it.
It's sad that most terrible people are that way because of there childhood, just my opinion but if it was provable ( hospital records and police records) I think the abusive parent or parents should get time for fucking up there child to a point to hurt or kill others.
In my country abusers get charged for the original abuse. If their victim continues the cycle of abuse the victim turned abuser will be charged for the crimes they commit. You are removing personal responsibility if you don't hold the actual abuser accountable. Also, most abuse is learned from past generation. So you would arrest a senior parent for abuse commited by an adult child, because the senior parent had abused that now adult child 30 years ago? That doesn't sound right to me. We can all empathize with people that were abused but it does not excuse them from any abuse they inflict on others. Everyone should be held accountable for their own actions. being abused does not give you the right to abuse others and blame your actions on your past abuser.
I suffered things like that and I’ve never grown into a sadistic person. I did become an addict and hurt myself for many years, so I guess I went the opposite.
Yeah but emotional abuse is way less likely to be reported and, as such, less likely to have a paper trail connected to it and emotional abuse is more likely to create an evil individual rather than physical abuse. There’s also no real laws against it that I know of, only against physical abuse.
Glad to see you doing this. However, I am kinda disappointed that we didn't really explore the Jacob's Ladder/Recursive Hell of it all. Or what the stories mean depending on how you interpret whether it was all a dream or not. I know that's not really the purview of this channel, so it's more because I finally watched this a few weeks ago and was thoroughly surprised how straightforward it seemed to be. Honestly, I find it all being a dream more satisfying, for once, given the character portraits we're given throughout. Every bit we see in the nightmare sequences are built off comments his friend made, not from any indicator from Asami. The story that comes out if she is a serial killer is that she thinks he's a serial predator, picking up girls and discarding them, thus he has to be punished. There are obviously more layers there, but that's what the story breaks down to. As for his flashing back to the motel room, it's an escape from the reality of his son dying. One that he cannot keep up. However, when he's conscious again, his son prevails and she repeats what she said during his callback. However, if we look at it as a dream, we have a widower who is uncomfortable with the deception but seems to have found the perfect girl in his mind. His friend keeps trying to talk him down, bringing up her unreliability and the mysterious disappearance of her benefactor. They end up in a hotel room, where she initiates sex, and he finds the branding. Right after that is when the dream trips over, including warped architecture at the cafe, tongues randomly showing up, over the top and creepy reactions, disturbing "truths" about Asami, and reinterpretations of scenes we've already seen. Hell, this initiates with a "yadda yadda yadda" over sex right into a Recursive Hell staple: him jumping into bed, falling out of bed, and realizing Asami is gone. The dance studio is clearly decrepit but somehow there's a crippled man with no means that is surviving. Not only that but he sexually assaulted child Asami. He also has a dreamlike prosthetic, more horror than anything that would be practically built. Anyway, dead wife and shapeshifting Asami aside, he ends up stuck in a dream inside a dream where he's paralyzed and tortured. It's very sleep paralysis or the Sleeping Hag for him to be stuck in a dream he can't get out of. He finally starts awake right before the worst thing that could happen: his son dying. There, he's back in the motel, with all his limbs, clearly unsettled but at least she's there and, for our purposes, they're back in the room before things stopped making sense. Here, she states how lucky she is. Her naivete is consistent with how we've seen her beforehand, and she seems totally in love. But how do you continue a relationship now that you've endured that dream? As soon as he closes his eyes to sleep again, he's sucked back into the nightmare right where he left off. Not moments later, not her mutilating the sons body . . . It doesn't function as a temporary repreive; he's right back in it. Even when she dies, she's reciting the callback conversation. So, if it is all a dream, then we have Aoyami infatuated with a so-called dream girl, only for him to have sex with her, fall asleep, and get freaked out by the nightmares that directly feed on his insecurities about her past, feelings of betrayal against his ex wife, and those dreams all wrapped up in post-coital regret. He's swooned a girl that he knows nothing about and now he's trapped. This version seems smitten with him, and you can tell he's absolutely terrified to make a move. I do like the idea presented that he's getting these details while paralyzed, so that's why they become so twisted and dreamlike, but it's a much less interesting story, to me, if she simply a serial killer. Would love to do a crossover video with you sometime, but regardless, I'm looking forward to the next one. 😅😅😅
Man I'm so glad I found your channel half of the villains I know and half of them I know we're going to be good movies because of your taste, So this one I had to go back and watch first before watching your video. Awesome stuff
I remember this movie. I knew homegirl was crazy from jump! But I don’t blame too hard because her family was f*cked but Aoyama didn’t deserve this. He was a grieving lonely man.
No, Asami's abuser went to the deepest circle of hell, along with her mom. "Love/hate?" No. Straight up hate. Asami also gets no quarter for doing horrible shit. Line's gotta be drawn somewhere.
There’s a point during Aoyama’s torture when he supposedly wakes up next to Asami when they first slept together before drifting off and returning back to his torture. An interpretation I have of the film is that everything from when Asami and Aoyama first sleep together is ALL a dream, and that Asami’s villainous persona, and Aoyama’s almost dreamlike trek to discover who she really was, is a manifestation of Aoyama’s guilt and self-punishment for A: Having an affair with his secretary prior to his wife’s death (as it’s heavily implied) and B: Pretty much manipulating and grooming a pretty young ex-ballerina with a BS audition for the sole purpose of sleeping with her and then discovering through dates about her traumatic childhood and loneliness. It would explain also why the second half of the film has this surreal, almost dreamlike quality through its camera angles, lighting and introduction to new characters, and the somewhat ambiguous final words of Asami as she lies with a broken neck on the stairs, asking if he would like to see her again for another date. So you could watch it as a Fatal Attraction-esque psychological horror about a man who gets involved with an obsessed crazed psychopath OR a study through a man’s subconscious as he’s punishing himself for his history of infidelity. I tend to choose the latter.
@@HardHitMag I always thought the secretary was waiting for him to make a move on her but he just didn't see her as worthy. I don't know the culture As well as here and subtitles I had were a bit delayed I think for me too. Because it seems like he loved his wife dearly and would not cheat on her just my opinion but I agree with the rest of your statement that everything beyond sleeping with ayami was a dream and he was feeling the guilt. Maybe the implications are far more in the book Or I'm just Just remembering order of events
I would like you to tackle Sam Jackson in Jackie Brown, Alicia Silverstone in The Crush, Robert de Niro in The Fan, Macaulay Culkin in The Good Son and Terry Mcquinn from The Stepfather movies.
This movie was such a pleasant surprise. Picked up the book afterwards and it's really well written. This movie flies under the radar unless your a big J horror fan so thanks for covering it!
Very cool you also touch on lesser known media like this! And amazing how deep you studied it. Also crazy how much more details there were to this film than I could catch. I overall enjoyed it but couldn't make sense out of several plot points and actions - such as the sawing of limbs. But thanks to this video a lot of dots got connected and made the film even more disturbing lol.
Nice. Great Chanel. If you could look into Kyung- Chul from "I Saw the Devil" In a random twist you might be able to possibly analyze Kim Soo-Hyeon in that instead.
Great take on this character. This movie haunts me to this very day, particularly it’s ending. Wow. You’re covering some very interesting and obscure villains on your channel, and it’s great to see more female characters. May I request a possible cover of Bridget Gregory from The Last Seduction (1994) or Catherine Tramell from Basic Instinct (1992)? Otherwise regardless of gender how about Frank Booth from Blue Velvet (1986)?
FUCK YEA Few know about this masterpiece. One of the best romance stories ever told on screen Can you do kakihara from ichi the killer in the future too? Takashi Miike is brilliant. Glad you made a video in his stuff
If he does an analysis on kakihara I hope it's the manga version. The movie was good but It left out a lot of important details that made the characters more fleshed out
I suggest a video on Arthur Mitchell, AKA the Trinity Killer, from the show Dexter: Season 4. Quite a scary and disturbing character to be sure, and great video of course, always well done.
She has a brother named Mario Yamasaki a real life referee who lets MMA fighters get brain damage after he does a cute kawaii heart gesture for the camera.
From same director I would love to see analysis of Ichi from Ichi The Killer. Psychologically very tragic and fragile character stuck in world of gleefully over-the-top sociopaths.
Obviously the best pick would be the triple threat of President skroob, dark helmet and colonel Sanders. They would have gotten away with it to if not for those kids and their mog to!
I love your analysis of these villains; your thorough research is what provides your videos credibility and more terror to what the villains do. I've seen you analyzed Tetsuo from Akira. Since you dipped into anime a bit, I would love it if you analyzed Griffith from Berserk. I am still feeling a type of way from that anime even though it's been years since I've seen it. Thank you.
I think Avon Barksdale, Stringer Bell and Marlo Stanfield could work as a three-parter, or three chapters of a single long episode, however it works. They each represent different aspects and personalities. And let's not let the cops, lawyers & city government off the hook either - there's some villainous characters on that side of the law as well. Along with some righteous, or at least highly sympathetic, characters on both sides. And all of them, even the minor parts, so recognizably _human_ . Best. Show. Ever.
I saw the film "Audition" many times. It's like the Japanese answer to the 1987 film "Fatal Attraction". When I read the novel that this film is based on, I saw that Asami was much more sadistic than in the film version. In the novel, Asami tortures and eventually kills Aoyama and Shige's pet beagle, "Gangsta" by cutting off his hind legs with a wire saw and letting him bleed to death as a way of punishing Aoyama for lying to her at the audition. The "Audition" film was a truly disturbing and shocking film that should've found its way to the Oscar Awards ceremony.
I know you primarily do movies but if you were able to do a video analyzing Vaas Montenegro and Hoyt Volker from the video game far cry 3 that would be amazing, i feel like they are both worthy candidates to be analyzed
Absolutely love this selection! This makes me wish for the days when we got memorable characters like this. Nowadays it feels we really just do not get great villains in film anymore. A villain who you can understand but who is also willing and capable of doing things that make you scared for the characters every time they are on screen. Asami Yamazaki was so unsettling that she legitimately made me traumatized of the words 'kiri, kiri, kiri' for years afterwards! :D
Here's two ideas for an Analyze Evil video. Analyzing Kefka Palazzo from Final Fantasy VI (if you do video game characters,). Analyzing Rameses from the Prince of Egypt.
I watched this movie before i watched this video. Same with over the co-co's nest. I love what you analyze, it gives me new things to watch. This one was quite wild. Thanks for uploading, I might not of seen or heard of some of these movies without ya.
Last scene didn't really bother me. But even this 'numbed to it all' horror lover - that phone scene where her head got lower and lower and you realize oh she's cray, oh sh*t she's cray cray, OMG how cray is she and then the bag moves with that sound - scared me half to death!!!

If you’re keeping with the theme of Takashi Miike, I suggest Kakihara from ‘Ichi the Killer’.
Ichi would be better choice. Kakihara is deliciously over-the-top, but any more villainous than anybody else in that movie.

That said, after watching these videos I found myself watching Orphan trying to mentally Analyse Ester the same way The Vile Eye does.
comment above....watch Calvaire, from fabrice du welz.....much better and....much more interesting
My initial take on Ester was "she should've just found a paedophile." Why? Because she clearly wanted to be loved, desired, and partnered. :|
@@jackmunday7602 I have no recollection of her being abused, but it's been ~10 years.

"Audition" was one of the hardest watches I've ever experienced. I still don't know if I saw the full thing or not, and I really have no intention of ever finding out. Everything in that film was pain.
I cant bro

A very dark version of "Black Swan"

I'd love to see a video on Lee Woo-Jin from the film Oldboy. He's just so complex and sadistic and dedicated to his singular goal that I think hed be an interesting subject for one of your videos.
Or an analysis of Choi Min-Sik’s role in I Saw the Devil would also be great
Yess!!
I agree, even if it’s not real it must be traumatizing to have a grown man look at you like that
Pay attention to the framing and editing in such moments.
Americans are quite weak and pathetic, and want everyone else to be.
like the commenter above said, i would think (moreso hope) that both actors werent actually together during those scenes, that happens a lot in films
In most horror movies, childeren don’t have any idea of what’s happening. They shoot scenes with childeren seperately. They edit them together in the post production.
Asking for kingpin from Netflix’s Daredevil for the next analyzing evil
Amazing pick!
This would be fantastic
Good pick! Hope he does one in the future!
I heard he's a bit more complex then most others
Great choice 👌
It's all a dream, it's his way of identifying with the trauma of her past. His subconscious relates the physical and emotional abuse of her childhood to a single excruciating experience, where the character realizes that his emotional pain at losing his wife cannot equal the pain of her abuse. Which is initially what he was attracted to, and though he had in common with her.
Wow
definitely an interesting take
That would be very unsatisfying if it was "just a dream" I don't think these details being shown the way they are in the movie are dream like, there's few points where it is kinda him in another "reality" or state of mind, but I feel like what's happening is actually happening
It’s not all a dream, some parts are some aren’t. The book confirms the rest of it is real. Nice try
"John Ryder" as played by Rutger Hauer in "The Hitcher". "I want you to stop me."; his reply when asked what he wants.
@@laurendebruijn2325 exactly he always seemed like a creep to me
@@laurendebruijn2325 Insane thinking.

I finally saw The Lighthouse because of you video on it, looks like this is next.
I love your work man, keep it up! 👍🏾🖤
I agree, the parents should be locked up too. Some people are born bad but it’s pretty unusual IMO.
@@alexandercarder2281 yup same Alexander. Self medicating.

Wow he had an affair. I never noticed that's what they are implying with that weird dialogue with the secretary. Thanks for pointing that out
@@HardHitMag I always thought the secretary was waiting for him to make a move on her but he just didn't see her as worthy.

Stringer Bell
Good choice
