- In this episode we travel to beautiful Northern Idaho to rescue a forgotten 1962 Ford Galaxie that has been off the road since 1974. It;s a blank canvas with no engine or transmission. What would you do with it?
Man that is a great find! Really a solid old car! The 390 and a 4 speed is definitely the way to go!
my father bought new '62 Galaxie. 4 door....white with same blue interior...that's the original interior.....with 292 cu in, cruise-o-matic, factory air, padded dash, etc. Traveled many miles sitting in back right seat in that car.....seeing your car brought back memories...(carpeting was standard)

That’s what I was thinking too. Race car inspired Galaxie. I own a 4 door 62 cruiser.
Glad to see another old Ford rescued from the crusher. I have always been a fan of the 1962 Full size Fords as my Dad had a 1962 Galaxie 500 Sunliner convertible in gloss black with white convertible top. His had the 352 V8 with Cruise o matic automatic transmission, power steering and brakes and power top. That is the one car I wish he had been able to keep. We always referred to it as " The Big Ford ". I have continued in the full size Ford tradition owning a 1987 Crown Victoria wagon, a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 50th Anniversary edition sedan and a 1991 Crown Victoria LX wagon. All are daily drivers in good weather and perform flawlessly.

My suggestion for the 1962 would be to make it into a street cruiser, either a 289 V8 or 352 with three speed manual column shifted transmission. Redo the interior and repaint in original colors. Would make a good grocery getter and candidate for the local car shows.

Just so happens we do have a couple 428’s laying around….
Full ,size Ford fan from Australia. I'm in envy. Anyway, I've a 62 victoria 65A ,Z . Was auto. Now 4spd T10 .
California plant Assembly. Found it in Ohio. Anyway very cool prospecting 👍. I've traveled through eastern Washington , amazing these germs are still around .
Go , 390 or stroker and 4spd . I'm running Tri-power carbs 447 stroker .

What you said to do with the car - it's perfect. Touch up the appearance here and there, but 390 and 4 speed is just right.

My first thought if it were mine would be to go with a small block and 4 or even 5 speed so I wouldn't feel the need to deal will the diff. Would make a great anytime cruiser.
I launched your video to see if your Galaxie rescue was a Starliner. Things got better not too deep into it. I see your rescue vid on that in the queue. In WA State in 1966 I bought a black '61 Starliner for $800. IMO this was the pinnacle of Galaxie design. It was a factory 375 hp hi-po car with the single 4 bbl and a T-85 OD with worn out synchros . Chevy's never knew what hit them. It got 6 MPG. Who knew back then that we should keep them?

@@FullSizeFord I get it - decades ago I owned an Acapulco Blue '69 Mach 1 4 speed R-code 428 Cobra Jet ram air. It could do what seemed like endless burnouts on the tires of the day. It had a great down low punch. Totally stock it ran tire smoking 14.2x e.t.'s at almost 102 mph. It was fast, but had ill handling with the heft of the CJ engine and top loader trans. I spun it out in corners a few times, it was a real Dennis The Menace kind of car.
@FullSizeFord 428 with a 3 on the tree or a top loader would be cool.either way. These 62 Galaxie's were some way cool cars back in the day. Better looking than any thing in the gm.or mopar camps.
IMO 427 with 4 speed. Repaint to orig colors. Mint 😊
Love the idea, 427 too rich for my blood. Lol. I do have some 428’s though.
I would love to have that 1958 EDSEL that’s my dream car if it didn’t too bad or rusted out real bad I’m 68 years old getting ready to retire like to have something to do
We’re working on getting the original 361 in this one running. It does have some rust in the floors and usual spots but nothing too terrible.

Another rescue, been off the road since the late 60’s. We aim to fix that.
