I really think, for name flavor, that Monologue Tax should have given you a treasure for each spell your opponents cast after their first spell each turn.
It should have also been a curse with that text.
Aura Curse
Add 1 treasure for each spell cast past the first, increasing to 2 for the second, and so on so fourth.
@@VultureXV I don't think that would be a good choice, unless it specifically could only enchant your opponents. Too easy to storm off if you enchant yourself.

Old Stickfingers is actually a top Historic Brawl commander. Top 8 in at least a few tournaments (as much as those exist for HB). It’s a ridiculously long combo (like 10 steps), but it basically involves casting Old Stickfingers, reanimating Young Necromancer to get Razaketh, then looping various sacrifices and tutors until you get Nyxbloom Ancient, The Great Henge, Paradox engine, a life gain win con, and a few other cards. Then you win by gaining infinite life with Great Henge. It’s the longest, most convoluted combo I ever seen and it’s actually quite good
weird, I didn't think Paradox engine was needed for a deck to combo.
Ouch on that Manascape Refractor
I think it might be best used with Ashaya, Soul of the Wilds to make all of your creatures count as lands - granting all of the abilities of your creatures to the artifact. It would also grant abilities given to creatures from equipment and other sources, so long as it says the creature gains the ability. This could be interesting
Smuggler's Share really has never disappointed me. It really reads like: Draw a card at the end of most turn and create 1 or 2 treasures during a rotation.
It's what Tithe should have been all along. Less busted and less annoying.
It all depends on your play group, and the deck power level. If you're in a group where fetches are extremely popular that will equal a good number of treasures, same for cards like rhystic study. However, in lower power groups the card tends to be slow, and sometimes it can sit there doing nothing for a turn or two.
@@cre8rzaw Another reason why it's a good design. Cards that scale their power along what is done on the other side of the table tend to be well made. On the other hand, cards like Rhystic and Tithe are beaten by being as ruthless, unfair and fast as possible, which makes them a better (but a still infuriating) fit in cEDH tables.

Battle Angels of Tyr is really good with Isshin. Even if I don't get all the effects, myriad triggered twice is pretty awesome
Exactly. I see where the Nerds are coming from. It's definitely not a super busted card, but it's extremely strong in the right homes. I think what they're not quite seeing here is that the floor of this card is still good. Swinging a 4/4 flyer at all opponents at once is just solid for 4 mana. Any other upside is just gravy. Cares about attacking or cares about tokens will find a way to make this card amazing. I play it in my Bennie Bracks deck.
@@d.a.d.-ohgosh I run it in Jetmir, and being able to make 3 additional creatures during combat can really get me to that 3rd ability quickly; providing all my creature with +3/+0, vigilance, trample, and double strike.
The myriad is insane in my giada deck for sure, but the long winded text rarely gets me much value lol
Yeah i think this is one of the only misses of the video. Not many 4 mana flyers I would rather have in any deck much less white. I guess the video is comparing it to the 'hype' and not comparable cards. Compare battle angle to other 4 mana flyers and tell me it's not good.
@@rosspresley24 Right. I would agree that the card was likely over hyped, but Battle Angels of Tyre was painted in a light as though it was a bad card in this video. Which is simply not true at all. It's really good.
Rootpath purifier needed to be like a 2 mana 1/1 or something. My biggest issue with putting it in anything is that it's a 4 drop that incentivizes me to cast ramp spells, the amount of decks that actually want that is so limited.
I wasn't really fooled by any of these cards. The one I was completely rope-a-doped by was Wandering Archaic.

The Ichirmoon Gauntlet is a card that makes a ton more sense to be hyped when you remember that planeswalker decks have a lot of problems actually closing the game once they have halfway decent control over the board.
In that context I was very happy to see it printed, because now then they have six walkers in play and slam that thing, I can just throw out my hands and say the game is over.😂

And a card that goes really well with Ichirmoon Gauntlet is Prologue to Phyresis, now you can proliferate all those poison counters with your Planeswalkers.

I wanted Ichormoon to work in my poison deck. But getting both it and a planeswalker on the board at the same time was just so unlikely
I was actually coming down here to mention similarly, ichormoon is definitely great in superfriends, if only by the fact that it now gives a better, more consistent win con, but it also interacts as a pretty good utility overall with the decks as well, accelerating more useless small abiliies, allowing ults to go off much more easily, etc.
Maybe I'm an outlier but I always thought of BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! as a card for a more aristocrat sacrifice deck as a wheel that pings opponents and loads up your grave, especially if you sacrifice a bunch of tokens to phyrexian altar or something similar
Bootlegger's stash is really good in my toggo, weaponsmith deck, it's all about making the rock tokens and then eventually turning them into creatures with brudiclad and cyberdrive awakener. So having a reusable brass's bounty effect is really good in that deck
I had a grindy game once and attacked for 120 damage damage after slamming cyberdrive awakener. Overall It's not been the finisher I thought it was but a flying enabler for my vehicles is nice
you need a seedborn muse or wilderness reclamation in your deck to make it pay off. i wouldn't expect it to survive a turn so IMO if you can untap at least once it's worth because you will have banked 5+ mana for a more consequential turn BUT if it does make it to your turn now you've tripled your available mana
Elesh Norn Mother of Machines. People were calling for it be banned before it even released. It's still a strong card but nowhere was bad as people were making it out to be.
Fr people thought it would warp the entire format and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one played lol
I played against that Elesh Norn deck and it obliterated everyone else's, negating ETB effects is brutal, it can destroy entire decks.
Elesh norn passively nukes people with not much effort required, that card is annoying as shit because it stops sac lands too sometimes

I think you are forgetting that people exaggerate reactions to things. People hate the card because it just isn't fun to play against. OTHER people took that as an extreme reaction.
i run amulet of vigor in every green deck and usually try to sneak in stuff like boundless realms, traverse the outlands and harvest season so occasionally i can turn big ramp spells into wincons (extra points for lotus cobra and tireless provisioner). i started playing with rootpath purifier and it doesn't do much without a bit of setup but it slotted perfectly into a few of my decks and paid off big. for sure i'm grabbing selesnya sanctuary, guildless commons, vesuva to copy sanctuary, reliquary tower etc
also great for drawing ramp spells late cause you never run out of basics or 3+ color decks cause duh
Smugglers Share being great is a hill I’ll probably die on. I think about of people were pissed when they realize they wouldn’t get treasures from fetchlands because people would crack them on others’ turns, then jumped on the hate train for it. But I quite often end up with 5+ cards from it, which is amazing.
The thing I like best is that it’s the opposite of a win-more card. When it’s bad, it’s because your opponents are not drawing cards…in which case I’ll happily three mana every day.
Old stickfingers is one of those cards that people will always have to remember whenever a card that does something in the grave is released. I don't think there is anything super broken yet, but it does allow such a specific, niche consistent utility, and can be a commander, that there is a hypothetical set of cards that could be released, that will create a win combo every time. It may never happen, but because of what it does, it should always have an eye on it.
It's good in very specific decks like a Karador Umori deck, but even then you need Nylea to give him trample.
I play Anger of Tyr in my Isshin deck (with The Master, Multiplied as "secret" commnader) and i love it :D Its near alwasy give me a Treasure (i do not ramp in Isshin with lands - just treasure) that i have a "sub-team" that i can use not only for mana (Draw, Remuval etc.). I near never have situation when it gives nothings - but true, near never it gives all three... but i still have a lot "draw" on "impuls" so I offen have less cards with "agroo" strategy then my enemies :)
Stickfingers is still one of my all time fav commanders in my arsenal right now. Grave shenanigans is great XD The only thing that he really needed stapled on to be REALLY solid is Trample or even Menace. Because it's easy to get him large but he just hits like a wet noodle without any form of evasion. Though I suppose he can help do enough damage without combat in these colors.
My end game for the deck is usually just aristocrat stuff anyway but it's usually Syr Conrad and friends with something like Tombstone Stairwell to obliterate life totals at the end of every turn, passively. :p
I can attest to bootlegger’s stash. I put it in my Jinnie Fay deck and found that most of the time, by the time I got to 6 mana, I had more efficient ways to use my lands and make tokens. It’s still a good inclusion, but definitely not broken
I actually really like the wrenn one cause it let's people kill my combos and feel safe only for me to cast it from grave. But I'm glad I saw this for 2 cards I can use in my God otk deck. The treasure artifact and the mana refractor for world tree shenanigans
A potentially helpful bonus of rootpath purifier is dodging blood moon. I've still never run it, but if blood moons are common in your mets then maybe!

Battle Angels absolutely goes off and becomes kill on sight with Giada on the board with it.

Noticing a pattern with Refractor, Blood God, Smuggler's, and Monologue: loads of value that hinges on your opponents doing things that they often aren't doing. Take it from a clones player who took apart a theft deck after 2 games: you can only count on your own stuff!
For an even worse example that wasn't overhyped afaik but I had been excited about it: Hoard Hauler. Yeah, you'll make a bunch of treasures if you swing into someone who somehow has a bunch of artifacts in play but also can't block a 5/5.
Bootleggers stash is one of my favorites with stimulus package and any token doubler, it’s my favorite way in my jinnie fay deck to win when the commander isn’t on the board. A lot of people don’t expect the army you can create without Jinnie.
It's pretty good in Vazi decks too...
Probably good in Uktabi Prince too

Battle Angels of Tyr has never disappointed me whenever I've used it. It almost always gave me 2 out of 3 effects while dealing at least 8 damage a rotation. Not bad for 4 mana.
For people who want to play Bootlegger's Stash, try out Mono-green Omnath. One of the most fun and versatile Monogreen commanders out there. Imagine ramp spells acting as voltron pieces.
Or Ich-Tekik. If a treasure hitting the grave gives your whole board +1 counters, the stash rules.
I agree that all these cards are overhyped, but they are still good. Theyre $5-10 (some even more), so being a budget player, im not going to add them into my decks. When you make a $50 deck, the only time you use +$5 on one card is if its an absolute bomb. These are just value pieces, and good if you have the money.

Stickfingers is really good in Meren specifically. Lol.. It only pitching your creatures so you don't permanently toss your removal/enchantments, etc, it's so good in that deck.
I pulled a borderless foil bootleggers stash when it was still overhyped and expensive. It was like 130 (Canadian) I ended it selling it for 25 bucks later in the year :/

I recently put bootleggers stash in my korvold deck, its pretty fun but nowhere near what i thought itd be
Smugglers Share has always performed really well at my table. Honestly, the only time e I saw it underperform was when the player kept missing the triggers and he chose not to take them when he remembered a turn later.
I have blood for the blood God in Anhelo the painter and I have casted it for cheap and copied it with casualty and it felt great and I hard cast it for 11 and copied it and it felt great. Dealing 16 and drawing a bunch is awesome. I usually cast it as a finisher in a 1v1 or sometimes pitch it and try to get it under arcane bombardment but in general casualty changes math on everything lol. So many cards are a lot better when you pay for it once and cast it twice. 🤷🏽♂️
Bootleggers Stash is in my Chatterfang deck. Not for Mana fixes, but for the treasure. With Chatterfang out, get a Treasure, and a squirrel for free. Not a clutch, but helps with token generation
I use old stick fingers in the 99 of my slimefoot and squee deck. He’s really good at putting creatures in the graveyard that I can resurrect later.
ichomore is great with the Ravnica static ability planeswalkers that dont have an uptick and you never want to tick down to preserve their static abilities... they just become field enchantments that can poliferate.
Monologue Tax does numbers! Sorry for the bad luck you had with it, but I almost always end up with tons of treasures. I use them for Debt to the Deathless for an instant kill.
Ichormoon Gauntlet is the emblem maker in a Planeswalker Party deck. I personally love using it in combination with Inexorable Tide and Oath of Teferi. You can hit emblems pretty fast.

@@fallsenseless9699 That's if they remain on the board. Cheap removal makes things so much easier to get rid of. Redundancy is important with some mechanics depending on the theme of your deck.
I have Wrenn and Realmbreaker in my Muldrotha deck. That planeswalker does some nasty freaking work in the deck.

As a commander you can build stick fingers quite strong. My lgs store owner had one, where he got cultivator colossus like turn 2 and through like 20 plus lands into play 😅. Consisted of 2 creatures a lot of reanimation spells and lands 🤔
thats interesting, its almost as if you can build any commander into a powerful deck by adding powerful cards.
Honestly, B Stash looks great but half the time you're paying six mana to tap out and see someone blow it up before you can use it.
Stickfingers is alright in the 99 to fill your yard. I use it in Beamtown Bullies to do that.

Ya but you through bootleggers stash in a Chatterfang deck (or any of the other token double decks in green) and that card is extremely efficient.
Manascaped seems really cool in colorless decks where you can run the coolest lands 😎

"bootleggers stash" is good in decks that are 3 plus mana for color fixing for me same with "rootpath purifer" for when im looking for certain lands when ramping
"blood for the blood god" works in my decks when i sack tokens and have a card that doubles or triples damage done by red sources so people get 16 -24 damage
all cards have a home in certain decks is the lesson whether or not they can be a all star depends on the cards they support / work with
If your manabase is good you don't need fixing, and even then just play chromatic lantern or one of the many other ways to fix. If you pay 6 mana for fixing that's insane
Battle Angels of Tyr wreaks havoc in my Giada Angels deck.
I have poliferated Wrenn and Realmbreaker and used the minus 7 turn the turn I played it once...just the right combo of landfall triggers with a Lord Windgrace Deck. Overall though I would agree and it is currently on the chopping block.
Lord Xander. With all the turn 3 memes on how fast you can cast Xander I thought that card was going to be everywhere. I literally never see it cast like ever.
Bootleggers stash works great in my chatterfang deck especially if I have mirkwood bats

Ichormoon Gauntlet is in my Malcolm Alluring Scoundrel Super Friends deck and every time it hits the field I win that turn (or on an extra turn). Not saying I disagree, just that every card can have a home where it excels

Sometimes cards are tricky to predict, and we definitely hyped a few on this list... but we are 100% coming in with a big fat "I told you so" on Everybody Lives 😂
Smuggler's Share's ability isn't what is bad about the card. It's the fact you can't chill during your opponents' turn when you have it in play.
You can't really talk to other players in case you miss the double-spell and it triggers in the end step, so you potentially have to wait a few minutes before you even get to bring up the fact you HAVE a trigger.
And that's not even taking inebriation levels into account 🤙🏼🍻
Smuggler’s Share fooled me. Before white had more card draw options, I thought this was going to be amazing. Had it in 3 decks and removed it from all of them.
Rootpath would be good in a landfall deck with gates.
Outside that i dont know many other uses.
I've wanted to use it alongside stuff like Blood Moon but it's so convoluted.
I was kinda hyped on Bootlegger’s Stash but I only ran it in my Ziatora deck. It’s literally only in there because it makes treasures, since that was the point of the deck, but its just too slow and clunky.
I run Manascape in one of my decks. It has never once missed. It goes HARD in my Omnath deck
I run Old Stickfingers in Varolz just to get creatures in the yard; they're all just guys with less mana value than power so that Varolz can scavenge them and grow to 21 power anyway, so needing to play and sacrifice them is more steps than Stickfingers offers. He never really gets huge, but "get X things to scavenge" is a decent enough rate for XBG as it is.
Never getting tired to remind UA-cam that Battle Angels of Tyr in my Jetmir Deck is an absolut menace
Blood for the Blood God in insane in my Awakened the Blood Avatar deck. I feel like they made the card for it.
You must be playing Wrenn and Realmbreaker wrong, as the Ult has worked for me every time. People I play against actively try and stop this ult or they have to keep my GY empty so i dont get my permanents back.
Right. I run it in my obuun landfall land destruction deck and it's ult has won games for me. A very powerful emblem to have. And with how low its cmc is you can easily have it out turn2- 3 and its +1 gives it a decent defender.
My cousin has old stick in his kenrith reanimotor deck. It can make his deck pop off so easily

If Manascape Refractor didn't come into play tapped it'd be decent. You have to play it with your own good lands, like Lotus Field, Maze of Ith, things like that.
Battle Angels of Tyr might be the best 4 drop angel so far, at least it's vital for my angels deck, but yeah, it's not a format changer.
Rootpath is great in my Omnath list but there her primary function is part of one of my 3 infinite combos lmao. I don't really run anything I wouldn't run otherwise.
I will fight you on Wrenn & Realmbreaker because I love them in my animate lands deck
15:19 you can use lands as attackers, sacrifice them as your frog horror commander demands, get to the ultimate, win. It really isn't great, but there it is.
bootleggers stash just goes off in token doublers, turns lands into 2 mana, potentially more, plus u can get tokens matter cards and have it become extremely strong proccing 2 tokens off each land...

Old Stickfingers is a staple in my Jarad deck, it comes in clutch at an point in the game
Rukarumel, Biologist took me, as a 17-year long Sliver lover, but it just allow some weird tribal-focused shenanigans
Ichmormoon Gauntlet. Man, when people were hyping that, I was like "Are you daft?" Getting 0 value from a Planeswalker, just adding counters, is just terrible. Like you don't get forever with them out there so wasting your one activation per turn for no actual value is so not what you want to be doing. But people were losing their minds over it and I have no idea why. The other cards on this list were overhyped but that one and Monologue Tax were two I thought were actively terrible and don't have any place in decks when spoiled.
I bought bootleggers stash for like $20 lmao then cut it from every deck I tried to put it in. Finally found a home in Korvold just this week
Old Stickfingers is so good in a deck like Mimeoplasm where you specifically want creatures in your graveyard. For most self-mill decks yeah he's probably not that great.
Or decks that only have two or three creatures in the deck.
I feel like boot leggers stash would be good with seed born muse just for a like pseudo omnath locus of mana without actually using him
I have that combo in my Gyome food deck and it goes crazy once you get mirkwood bats out.
Even for green Bootlegger's Stash comes in way to late to be relevant. By that point, I'm either so far ahead, the concept of mana is meaningless to me, or I'm so far behind, I'm just trying to figure out how to help the one underdog at the table with a shot.
Bootlegger’s stash in Adrix and Nev is pretty busted. Token doubling on your commander is great by itself, but this card really gets out of hand when you have copies of your commander and/or any of the token doubling enchantments

Yeah if you cant abuse Bootleggers Stash its not worth running, however, if you can abuse it, its a very sweet card. I run it in my Korvold deck and it does wonders there.

Blood for the Blood God was so true. I had it in my Zurgo Helmsmasher deck (which was nearly boardwipe tribal), but even in that case, landing the payoff was so rare. It felt awesome when it landed, but 9 out of 10 games, it was a very dead card.

I think you missed Something Out on the Battleangels..alone you are right...but in my Giada Angeltribal they are Part of a Wincon where i need a certain amount of Life and my Opponent instantly loses the Game.

If the complaint for an instant is 'it is hard to keep 3 mana up' I think this may be a playstyle issue and not a card issue lol. I can only run free instants because holding up mana just doesn't work for me. Just say you don't like instant speed interaction lolol
Old stickfingers is cEDH commander, if you play only one creature you are guaranteed to hit it. You just need any reanimation spell to win the game.

I dunno man, Bootlegger's does work in any deck running green that wants cards like Reckless Fireweaver or Disciple of the Vault. I run Jolene, and there's a reason I run Bootleggers over Old Gnawbone.
It's a chatterfang all-star, golden nuts and squirrels for days.

I disagree with you about rootpath purifier, its great against blood moon, which can be a tremendous pain in the ass at times, also, being able to just rampant growth into a specific land is pretty good, urza's saga or random utility lands like field of ruin or wasteland or boseiju or a karoo land to bounce boseiju to channel away an artifact or something. Making all ur lands basic is a useful thing me thinks, 4 cmc makes it a little less good but still an interesting effect.
