I'm also specifically testing and reviewing the 7Artisans EF-EOS R Lens Mount Adapter and looking at whether or not it is worth saving your money to go with the 3rd party option.

I recently upgraded from 6DM2 to EOS R and now, I'm starting to regret staying on the same system. As Sigma Art lens fanboy, It's very disappointing that even Sigma/Tamron will not make any RF lenses in the future.
Ya, I do think it remains to be seen if Sigma and Tamron will eventually be allowed onto the RF mount, but it is definitely disappointing that is has been so closed off so far. I also have several Sigma Art lenses that I love (having said that the RF mount L glass blows them completely out of the water, but with hefty price tags).
What kind of photography and/or video do you typically shoot?
@@JustinMyersPhoto My Sigma 135mm art blows almost all of EF-L glasses when it comes to sharpness and color. I think Canon is afraid that it might be happened on their RF glasses in the future.
RF L glasses with 2.8 aperture and wider are too expensive for me, even the used one is more expensive than my Canon EOS R body here in Philippines.
I'm just a hobbyist but sometimes, I'm accepting clients for engagement, portraits & pre-birthday shoot.
@@joliver4083 oh, I definitely agree that Sigma lens are often much better value for the money, and the EF Art series lenses stack up to the EF L series lenses very well for less money. The RF L series are out of budget for most hobby shooters, and even a lot of professionals.
Like I said, I also wish Canon would open the RF mount. That was one of the best things about the EF mount, there were so many options at different price points

I cannot get my Mac or PC to recognize the Adapter to install the software update. Have you had any luck?
Please test it with third party lense. Apparently the are errors
Check out around the 9:40 mark in the video. That video with animal tracking AF was recorded using the Sigma 24mm f1.4 Art lens. I haven’t had any issues with my Sigma lenses, which is the only third party lens manufacturer I really use
@@JustinMyersPhoto thanks a lot. I am trying to buy a Tamron EF 15-30 2.8 and the owner says his R5 shows up errors so he can't use it. It's so risky with canon disabling third party adapters or lenses, they're becoming like Apple.
@@mostlymessingabout so unfortunately, Tamron lenses never had reliable autofocus performance with Canon cameras. For instance, none of the Tamron lenses ever worked with any camera in the Canon Cinema lineup.
So, while I also wish Canon would allow more third party innovation on the RF mount, I don’t think the unreliable autofocus performance of Tamron EF lenses has anything to do with recent changes
