    Oh the joys of Menopause. I had 28 symptoms and in year 7, this fun dry eyes situation along with red eyes is no.29.

    I was suffering extreme dry eyes, so much that sometimes I swear I could almost hear my eyes blink! This was before HRT. I've been under treatment for 8 months and my eyes improved a lot when it comes to dryness. Not sure if my hormones are bioidentical or not but I can tell that estradiol definitely helped me.

      Scared of what? You had hormones for decades why would they be suddenly dangerous to you. Do your research thoroughly. Don't listen to fear porn either.

      Why could you be afraid to take the proper supplementation for your body. The stupidity I see is astounding.

    I had a hysterectomy in 2017. In 2018 I went to my eye doctor for regular exam and glasses. 6 months later they didn't seem to be effective. I went back in 2019 and was told I had cataracts in both eyes. I had to pay for new glasses that helped somewhat but the prescription wasn't the best. I was not ready for another surgery. But by 2020 my vision had deteriorated and driving became more and more difficult. I got the cataract implants but it has left me with double vision and pain in my left eye. I have horrible hormonal and other problems from my 2017 surgery and had NOT be diagnosed with cataracts prior. Yes, another complication they don't tell you about. She's spot on when she says "faster rate".

      You should have been told all this and researched yourself about such a drastic operation. Within 2 years and you developed cataracts.. Dreadful.

    Thank you so much for this informative and helpful video.
    I am in the UK 61 years old and really struggling with this especially at night, it wakes me up painful eyes I have to massage them before I can open.
    I am really concerned about the damage it's doing to my eyes.
    I am working from home due to Covid and spending up to 9 hours per day staring at a computer screen which doesn't help.
    Am also experiencing extreme dry mouth despite drinking a lot of water (diabetes tests came back negative) this all seems to point to hormone issues.

    Thank you for this info - it explains what I’ve experienced and, as a result, I’m reassessing my use of retinol/Retin-A on my face. Sadly, it’s taken your video for me to learn this. My (male) eyes doctors never mentioned hormones or retinols as affecting my eye health!

    Dr. D thank you for making this video. I've had dry eye after stopping hormonal birth control. In your experience, do hormone levels usually stabilize on their own after some time? Or should I be seeking some type of treatment for this issue? Thank you in advance.

    I ordered the Omega pills.. it's my right eye that gets dry now that I'm starting back wearing contacts.
    I'm trying the Total 1..
    Today is my first day wearing contacts after a week break.
    I put in the Total 1 they felt like heaven compared to the acuvue oasis. I did my warm compression turn my optase wipe and drops them the contacts. I was able to wear them 5 hours with no issues and then the right eye only started to get dry and i started using drops. I keep them in a total of 9 hours
    Tomorrow I'll going just keep them in 5 to 6 hours so my eyes get used to them.
    Also, i work at a computer all day and try to remember to blink.
    Thank you for the recommendations. If there is anything additional i need to do please share. Also I'm 54 post meno weight is good and on a low BP and had lasix 20+ years ago.
    I noticed it's only my right eye that's the problem the eye Dr said my dry eye is mild. I have the evaporating dry eye.
    Sorry for the book.. smiles

    Hi Dr. D! I have been dealing with dry eye for quite a while now. My next venture is IPL. Will have to wait until I can afford it, but I had a thought about red light therapy. I know it's anti-inflammatory. If I bought a red light therapy device for my home and used it on my face, could it possibly help my meibomian glands, by decreasing inflammation? I googled this question and got a positive answer. What do you think?

    • @NinorahDeux
      @NinorahDeux 9 місяців тому

      Be careful with IPL: for some people, it does thin the skin around eyes

    I have another question, why for some people some treatments works really well for a while and then not work at all? Or why some people are happy whit their scleral lenses and then they can't tolerate them? That really scares me

      In my clinic I tell my patients with dry eye that figuring out the best treatment for an individual is like putting together a puzzle that is different every time. Its because everyone has different genetics, environmental factors, takes different medications, etc. Its a challenge for sure but rewarding once you find the right combination for the patient.

    What kind of dry eye are caused by anxiolitics? Evaporative or aquous deficiency?

    • @EyeSchoolwithDrD
      @EyeSchoolwithDrD  4 роки тому

      Can be both. The mechanism isn't completely understood, except that they're anti-cholinergic and affect certain proteins on cells that affects mucin/oil/tear secretion.

Also not sure if it's available in India but TearCare in conjunction with IPL does well to really clear the clogged glands. Hope that helps!

      Yes, so my preferred brand of Omega 3 (Nordic Naturals) actually has gummy worm options. Their liquigel can also be punctured and you could just take the oil. As long as it is Triglyceride form/pharmaceutical grade it doesn't matter the form.

    I solved my dry eyes problem after 2 years of hell. It is indeed about systemic inflammation. Have 40 drops of propolis 3x a day and after 2 weeks you will be telling every person you know. If I knew this trick before I would have saved so much money. I still feel my eyes are dry first thing in the morning. But I no longer have to bring my eyes drops with me when I go out. Reduce intake to 20 drops a day after 2 weeks if you want to take it long term. There is no research on long term use and there was a case of kidney failure with recovery after propolis withdrawal. Don’t overdo it.

      They are dry in the morning because your hormones drop at night time. It's all the lack and deficiency of hormones. It causes low lying inflammation.
