REDBIRDS PASSING 219 TOWER (4-28-01).avi

Seen here from the window of the old 219th St. tower in the Bronx is a view of Redbird trains passing by as they head towards 241 St. on the number 2 (IRT) line. The towers were originally built by the Interborough Rapid Transit Company and controlled switches at an interlocking south of 219th St. and leading to the old Third Ave el, which was torned down in 1973. The tower like the Redbirds are now history. The 219th tower was razed in 2002 and the Redbirds were retired and reefed in 2003.
