- FOOTPEG UPGRADE RELOCATION -The Cockpit conundrum
Complete install step by step for Relocating the pegs, bars, rear axle, to improve the rider cockpit on the Honda CRF230F. includes bar riser tips and rear axle relocation trick.
Is it a trail bike, girls bike, playbike, kids bike, racebike? the Versatile CRF230F or is it a 230R?
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Job well done! Please post a PDF or JPEG of the blueprints you were provided. The screen in your video is a different design and after reading through ThumperTalk the image in the video actually lowers the pegs 10 cm which is not my objective.
The pattern provided to me was literally a scan of a simple tracing on paper mailed to me with some other brake parts by Rick Ramsey who posts numerous entries on Thumpertalk along with his own website, he is a great great resource for all kinds of CRF230 info.
I do know the both left and right patterns are identical so you could just measure the holes and make your pattern pretty easily. Sourced from company “M&S” no longer in business.

Good luck!
I've had less of an issue with pegs bottoming out since I did this mod, since you always have to be mindful on the 230 but with this mod you get to the problem spots with more control and momentum
Great work. Well done. Good to see it all possible just with cheap hand tools👍
Nice job Tom!
Thanks Ben!
@@lowbuckgarage1 Finally you got more subscribers than me!
Looking forward to it 😃
Awesome work, keep up the videos. I have no idea why this bike speaks to me. Maybe cuz it's air cooled. I have a 2004 CRF230F.
Maybe because of Simplicity, easy maintenance, potentially fast?
Thanks for watchin
Your new peg location has another benefit, it looks like it is 1/2” higher, I ride a hyper modified 230 also … I broke my foot on enduro ride, my toe caught a rock hidden in a bush… 8 weeks in a boot, no riding.
I have the works shock, it has adjustable preload as well as adjustable length. With the length setting you can adjust the rear height / Fork angle, I don’t know why this isn’t a standard shock feature!
Works Performance shock?
Didn’t know they made one that fits.
@@lowbuckgarage1 it’s been a few years back….. unfortunately I had health problems end my riding days…. I still have my bike hoping that I may be able to return one day, but if I’m honest it probably won’t happen.
The works shock was around $600 for the top of the line remote reservoir unit, I will look and see if I can find any info on it….
Here is a list of the major mods I made.
Crf150 forks with Reger conversion kit. Race Tech Custom revalve and springs.
Scott’s Triple clamp and under mount damper
Engines only high comp piston
Engines only cam and valve springs
Engines only stainless steel megaphone pipe
Works Shock
Custom seat, ( wider in sitting area, narrower in standing
Trail tech computer ( speed, rpm. Head temp)
Pivot pegs- ( bad idea)
Sorry about the health issues. All our days are numbered aren’t they?
Your bike sounds quite similar to mine. I’ve have done a few more mods. Recently installed an onboard digital air/fuel monitor gauge to dial in perfect jetting. Video will upload soon. Thanks for watching.🏍️
I see that you do not have the kick stand fitted, would this get in the way do you think? Also, I have converted my 230 to have a rear disc, I use the rear mounting bolt to connect my pedal return spring to. I am sure I can rework that though. Did your billet pedals not clash with the head of your plate mounting bolt? Great video, shows what can be done in a basic workshop.
Thanks.
I removed the kickstand for racing purposes only. Yes, I had to grind a little bit on the pegs inner part so they didn’t rub on the mount bolt. A little grinding on mount for braking pedal arm too.
Hey Tom, thanks for the helpful tips regarding the foot peg relocation. I'm assuming that the pegs you used were intended for a CRF250X, to match the bracket?
Yes. Found new on eBay $35, According to the seller, they fit 250/450X as well as 250/450R, but I’ve heard the X’s are different.
They’re working great so far.
What is the total weight savings you are at since the start of the project? I love these bikes...just wish they had a little more...(or less lol)
I’ve taken off over 20+ documented pounds. It’s not easy.
@Low Buck Garage I've been watching your series and loss track of the pounds...I know it's a lot of money and time/work but have you considered a 150r motor? It has a bit more power. Not sure if it's lighter or now. I'm sure the water cooling would pose a challenge
@@kylelucas8126 Interesting concept, I haven’t seen anyone try it yet, a new 150R is rated at 23.5 HP. A stock 230 has only 19. my 230 now has approx 25 HP with bigger bore, cam, carb intake valve, porting. It’s difficult to find a weight comparison between just the engines.
Stock 150R - 185 pounds,
Stock 230F - 248 pounds.
Mine - 224.
It's a solid idea but every 150r I've ever ridden had 0 torque, it was like riding an MX 2 stroke. I'd like to try one with a really heavy flywheel then it might be a good swap 👍
