    Being consistent with the leveling of the bike when checking my oil on my 2022 Honda Rebel CMX100 DCT, was totally unbeknownst to me. Invaluable advice, thanks! 👏🏾👍🏾

      I'm glad you found it helpful! I've seen it too many times where owners end up believing that the bike is either burning oil or is overfilled due to measuring inaccuracy, the objective is to be within the acceptable range. 🤙

    Great guidance- best to keep oil level quiet a bit below the top mark like yours - most oil leaks are because of overfilling

    Important: as in the video, don't screw the dipstick back in when measuring the level, but DO screw it back in when finished.

    HI Gus, I was thinking about this. This is the required proceedure for checking the oil right after an oil change or other motor maintenance to fill up the oil filter, trani filter and other places in the motor. This makes sure the motor is in running condition and oil level has stablized. You don't have to refer to the Service Manual for general operator maintenance. The operator doesn't need the granularity of the Service Manual proceedures. I only use the Service Manual because I need detailed information for more in depth proceedures not covered in the Operators Manual.

      This is from the Owner's Manual, Page 107 every new bike comes with the Owners Manual:

      Checking the Engine Oil
      1. If the engine is cold, idle the engine for 3
      to 5 minutes.
      2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF
      position and wait for 2 to 3 minutes.
      3. Place your vehicle in an upright position
      on a firm, level surface.
      4. Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean.
      5. Insert the dipstick until it seats, but don't
      screw it in.
      6. Check that the oil level is between the
      upper level and lower level marks on the
      dipstick.
      7. Securely install the dipstick.

      Hi James, it wouldn't be responsible of me to show a method that is not described in both the owner's and service manual. The manuals do not specify that this procedure is to be followed after changing oil, it is labeled Oil Level Inspection which is on the page prior to the oil change instructions.

      This is in the Owners Manual that is not in the Service Manual "If the engine is cold".
      The only reason I mention that this is in the Owner's Manual is because the "oil check" proceedure is available to anyone with an Owner's Manual and is not something mysterious.

    Bonjour de France, j'ai découvert tes tutos et je dis bravo. Top
    Suite accident de moto je suis amputé de mon pied gauche et du coup cette machine basse, boite dct me conviendrait parfaitement. Vu les améliorations possibles amortisseurs entre autres et tes essais sur piste mon convaincu pour ce futur achat.
    Question, il vient d'où ton échappement qui repart vers le bas, idéal pour des sacoches ?

      Ça fait plaisir d'avoir de vos nouvelles, ce vélo sera définitivement idéal !!! Mon échappement est fabriqué sur mesure et il est idéal pour les sacoches car il éloigne les gaz chauds du sac, vous pouvez demander à un magasin d'échappement local d'en fabriquer un pour vous, il ne devrait pas être trop cher et relativement facile à fabriquer. My exhaust is custom made and it is ideal for saddlebags as it directs the hot gases away from the bag, you can ask a local exhaust shop to make one for you, it shouldn't be too expensive and relatively easy to make.     Hi Gus, did you notice any oil consumption on your Rebel. I just checked mine and after 4,000 miles mine was down a quart. My Valkyrie with 114000 miles doesn't use any in 4000 miles. Doesn't seem right. The Rebel has always used oil and I figured once it was broken in, the consumption would slow or stop but it hasn't. BTW, I'm using Lucas motorcycle oil 10-30 for wet clutches. Performance and shifting are fine.

      @@ontherebel11 I park mine in a garage and there are no signs of a leak. It runs fine so my guess is it is sucking oil vapor into the engine through the air box. I will be changing my air filter soon and I'll have to see what the box and filter look like.

      @@jamescampolo7824 You might find a little oil in the airbox as that is its path to the breather tube.

    I recently changed my oil and added too much. What's the best way to remove a little oil, or, just let it burn up on its own?

      Sorry to hear that, you could open the drain bolt a bit to let some oil oil and retighten it, a bit messy but gets the job done, another method is to use a thin hose and syphon oil out from the dip stick opening. good luck bro.🍻

    My first oil read on a new bike, 1100 DCT, I read the manual 3x to make sure I got it right. This is it. However... I am wondering if a Jedi Master could read the oil correctly when the bike is on it's kickstand? Because if it is about being consistent, why not the constant of the specific angle when parked on a level surface?

      Hi Russ! Congratulations on getting the 1100!! I put the 2x4 block under the stand to keep the bike as upright as possible, and i measure it in the same spot every time as i've learnt it the hard way LOL. The only thing different that i do is that i use a paddock stand while at home and not touring.

      For over 50 over years, with any vehicle, the vehicle must be on a level surface and with a bike, it has to be held up vertically. Here's an idea, check the oil level in the level, vertical position. Then check the oil while it is on the side stand. Then compare the two readings. If the one in the vertical position is within spec, the one on the side stand would be also be correct. This is not rocket science.

      @@jamescampolo7824 Since the beginning of time, a liquid will seek it's lowest point. Thanks for stating the obvious. Potentially there is a chamber in the engine that when tipped sideways will not level the oil. I was being lazy, just wondering if someone had an answer that worked just as well without centering the bike.

      ​@@jamescampolo7824 Because the engine doesn't have a normal oil pan in which everything collects. There is a reservoir where the oil is pumped into. dry sump lubrication

      That would be impossible. " Level" is a constant. To measure anything, you need a constant to work with.

      @@ontherebel11 The bike would still have to be level. My 1993 Honda CL350 had a window but you still had to hold the bike vertical on a level surface. Another drawback to a window is that it is very hard to see it while you are sitting on the bike holding it up. You either have to have a block under the side stand to hold it up or a 2nd person.

      No, on any motorcycle for the last 50 years, you just drop the stick in the hole, pull it out and look at it. No screwing required.

      @@ontherebel11 I agree Gus, the starter is barely able to handle the compression on the 1100. Planned obsolescence, kill the battery (which is not covered under the extended warranty) or kill the starter which under the regular warranty is only good for a year. Either way, they win. The starter on my Valkyrie spins with zero effort after 27 years.
