Loves these videos man. From the bottom of my heart, Thank You. I've been for the last two years digging in hard to learn Japanese. At this point in time I am almost done with n2. Sadly I cannot afford to go or exchange in Japan, so until I get the resources these videos really help share the experience and provides some good recommendations on where to go when I DO have to resources. Keep making videos, -A random guy on the Internet
you're videos, or should i say documentaries are very informative. thank you for sharing and helping us understand the japanese culture, festivities, and their ways. i just love watching you're documentaries...very professionally done!
you are very lucky. I am a High school student at the moment so I don't see any chance of going anytime soon, unfortunately. Have fun and Enjoy, once March comes by.
Hey John! I'm so happy your channel has EXPLODED with subscribers! It's insane. 🎉 I just wanted to ask if you're ever going to do a video on Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) clubs/parties like you did the anime music nightlife? I love DDR haha. Stay safe! 💕
I don’t know much about Japan, going to school 🏫 they don’t teach you about Japan i learned more about America..,watching your channel has taught me so much.. you immerse yourself into the culture learning more and more I’m so glad I subscribed
+Domelgaming it was (and still is) traditionally the sacred symbol for good luck in Hinduism and Buddhism and the likes. Before WW1 Europe and then LATER the Nazi party took the mirrored version of it to represent them.
And I love how John edited this, to show the small child flicking his wrists right before showing the elderly lady. It shows that that people of all ages love their festival and will take part!
Even tho i give this channel a hard time...it is one of the better.. Japan from a western perspective, channels on this website...and its basically completely produced by one dude...thats pretty impressive regardless of its your style or not.
Oh woah! The otsuka art museum is so cool!! It seems super educational, and I wish there's something similar like that in the US where kids and adults alike could touch the art! :) Woah, those dances looks like super quad/glut workouts! The men's squat and the women's tiptoe. Did you eventually end up joining the dance? Looks like so much fun and energy. How long does the festival last? Is it only one day of the year?
it seems to me that the shape of the straw hat is specific because of the hand movements during the dance. It would be difficult for them to do that movement with their hands if the hat was round.
sin duda este es uno de tus mejores vídeos, espero algún día puedas colocar subtitulos en español y así los pueda disfrutar con toda mi familia, saludos desde villahermosa tabasco en mexico.
徳島の阿波おどりです!Awa odori is really beautiful no matter how many times I see it.The festivals are held at parks, gardens, shrines and temples during Obon. This is a local tourism appeal, but it is also a culture of memorial service for ancestors.
Dancing is so universal~ What an amazing part of the Japanese culture!!! To be greeted with a bunch of cultural dances would be such an experience! Thanks for sharing!

Do the amigasa hats have any specefic purpose or are they just for fashion?
The guys costumes reminds me of Happosai in anime Ranma.
