The performance comes from a DVD called " There's Know Place Like Home "-- " Know " is from the title of their album " Point Of Know Return ". Superb performance, per usual with Kansas
I was fortunate to have seen Kansas live several times in the 1970s when they were at their peak. At that time Steve Walsh was one of the best rock vocalists ever, and Robby Steinhardt was the best backing vocalist of all time as well as being a good lead vocalist. Kerry Livgren wrote some great songs back then and the entire band were a force to be reckoned with. By the time of this concert Steve's voice was on the way out. Robby was gone. Kerry was gone, although he did play guitar on a few songs for this concert. See if you can find some vintage 1970s Kansas to react to. You won't be disappointed.
Yes me too. I saw them early in 1976 before their Leftoverature hit. The actual concert I saw is on YT (audio only) New Orleans Municipal Auditorium. They were fantastic even without Leftoverature. They were with Bad Company that wasn't part of the YT audio version. No damn cuts in the song either. I saw them in 1980 or 81 in the Superdome and they played the uncut uncut Song for America. They actually had a couple of cuts in the studio album. It's also on YT audio somewhere live if you look for it. That was the last time I saw them all together. Elefonte just didn't cut it for me. I still enjoy their music but I like watching the kids reactions. I agree, they need to hear vintage Kansas.
@@nolaserv Kansas was incredible over the span of their first 4 or so albums. I am glad that I got to see them reproduce those songs in a live setting. I think Kansas was the first band that I saw use lasers in their live show. I recall that Steve Walsh had a holster for his wireless microphone at some point which allowed him to switch between keyboards and singing very quickly. He was a very high energy performer.
@@ALAN_COX I remember a Kansas concert in Baton Rouge where they had a green laser shooting through the band with mirrors for a short period in the 1979 Monolith tour . The Who put on a fantastic light show in 1975 at LSU. They spent lots of money producing that light laser show. That one was my first and the best and practically the only one I saw at a concert. Yes, I had all 3 albums before the 4th. I was a hard core fan of K and I guess still am.
I'm amazed at the kids today and Song for America is really getting out there but they need to hear the uncut studio version. When I first heard Kansas, they didn't have the Leftoverature album. You either had a friend with the album or saw a double header concert to find out who they were. I was lucky to have a friend with the album before their hits, hit the radio. They caught my attention really fast when I heard Down the Road and Song for America. I knew they were going to eventually get popularity. They were just too good to pass up.
Great song choice. Lead vocalist Steve Walsh's voice was pretty shot by this point, he had been struggling for many years. Does that sound like the same voice from Dust In The Wind? No. He is greatly supported by the background vocalists and together it still works. He would leave the band a few years after this show. They're still going, although with a new singer.
Yep, a lot of them lost their voice such as Robert Plant too. Check out the Leftoverature BAND on YT. They formed this band around Kansas' songs. I think their Song for America is better than the actual Kansas of today. They are something else!
It is sure not the same without the original members. I have a really hard time listening without Kerry and Robbie. They were an incredible band. I was blessed to see them many times in concert.
Kerry Livgren is one of the world’s greatest songwriters. But he never took music lessons & can neither read nor write musical notation. He “wrote” this song in his head,as usual,as they were flying to L. A. & taught it to his band mates when they arrived at the studio in LA to record their 2nd album (“Song for America” of course!) I LOVE KERRY!
Man, Kerry is a real Nostradamus. If you really listen to the lyrics of Sparks of the Tempest off of the Point of Know Return album (1977), he points out what is happening today, in America with people not paying attention to who they are voting for getting close to losing our democracy and freedom. Get out there and vote for Kamala Harris. Trump is a madman. Yes, it is inconceivable that Kerry could "write" Song for America. It came from his aunt's classical collection of musical composers that she storylined each one of them when he was young. He is a genius.
@@katesjanice Honey, you are one of the ones Kerry writes of in Sparks of the Tempest. I'm a Reaganite and been a life long Republican. Not this time. You better learn fast about Project 2025 before you vote. Donald Trump is a sick man. You WILL be under a dictatorship if Trump is elected. Don't say someone didn't try to warn you.
Suggestions: Lamplight Symphony, Incomudro, Journey from Mariabronn, The Pinnacle, Icarus, ALL of the album Leftoverture, Closet Chronicles, Hopelessly Human……and more!

Brave and courageous. Great description

You should check out Down the Road from the same show to see them really show off.
Oh boy, they're in for a ride on that one. That was the first song I heard by Kansas before their hits, hit the radio. I was immediately hooked.
