I've been telling people that he was a fantastic figure and one of my favorites from Wave 1 of Legacy. All I got was "yOu StUPiD GeEwUnNer! REEEEEE!" all because they couldn't appreciate the aesthetic at all. I agree that he's more Animated than Prime, but he works SO well as a good merger of both that can fully fit onto my shelf. Not to mention, there are at least TEN different figures for Prime Bulkhead out there before this one and SEVEN different versions of Animated Bulkhead.
Yeah - it’s such a shame that lots of people have overlooked and flat out hated this guy just because he’s not an accurate version of the Prime character because as both you and Lazy Eyebrow said, once you get past that issue, he is an incredible figure and definitely one of Legacy’s best figures. Heck, Legacy’s voyagers have been killing it IMO since there’s so many good ones - Blaster, Prime Bulkhead, G2 Jhiaxus, Beast Wars Inferno, Armada Starscream - they’re all great. It’s just such a shame that people aren’t willing to give stuff that isn’t 100% accurate to shows a chance because sometimes you can get some really great gems of figures from just forgetting about it not being show accurate.
Aside from the face he looks nothing like the character he's based on prim or animated, hasbro didn't deliver on the character fans wanted, it may be a good figure it is just not a good Bulkhead figure
Ten? In terms of chug scale, I remember 3 - RiD which is very inaccurate (and to me looks worse than Legacy, not that Legacy looks bad); Beast Hunters which is too small and, y'know, Beast Hunters; and the First Edition which even at the time seemed to be fairly hard to get and now is incredibly difficult to find and redonculously expensive. I _do_ wish people could get over this and enjoy the figure nonetheless (even if to _me,_ it's not the greatest Generations-ification of him), but I don't find buying an original a simple alternative. It probably shouldn't have been called "Prime-Universe" Bulkhead, or Animated, or anything other than just "Legacy Bulkhead." It's effectively no difference but might've made all the difference in peoples' heads.
Only thing I think you “missed” is there is a 3mm port on the side of the back hinge where the spare wheels hide, this can mount the Gatling gun as a shoulder canon
@@publicprofilename4273 it’s exactly that way for me. So I just leave it on the left side as a shoulder cannon. Definitely weird that only one side works right tho
If you turn bulkheads fists to where the top of the fist is shining out the front window, they actually look a lot like seats, with the fists being headrests.
Another detail that in my opinion feels more animated is how bulkhead turns into a swat transport while in legacy he turns into a military transport feeling similar since they’re both service vehicles
Another thing I enjoy is it's Another autobot that is a military land vehicle, now hound isn't so lonely on the shelf. Great review as always and can't wait for the next one
This guy is basically Age of Extinction Hound (especially the Wreckers deco) mixed with Prime Bulkhead with some trace elements of Animated, all neatly wrapped up in a nice pseudo-G1 aesthetic. Absolutely adore this figure and it's nice to see a reviewer be so positive about it rather than harping on about how it doesn't look like Prime Bulkhead.
I got him as an impulse purchase during a local comi-con or whatever. At the time, Legacy was brand new and didn't convince me that much. When I got him in hand, I was hooked. One of my favourite figures. He's amazing.
I feel like everyone has forgotten that Transformers can take new alt modes at will. So one can easily say this *is* Prime Bulkhead having scanned a new vehicle. Because that's essentially what it is.
I waited for the Wrecker Wredeco and yes, the mould is great, while the hammer doesn't really add that much(for him at least, it was clearly made for Breakdown), the military camo makes it very unique. I love that you can leave the canopy attached so that the partsforming is optional, I love the way the mace integrates and I love the trick for the gas tanks. They clearly wanted to make it as good as possible, I wish Arcee had gotten the same treatment.
I held off on this figure for SO long, because I genuinely didn't like how it looked. Then I got the Wrecker variant and... oh my god. It's probably my favourite figure out of Legacy, just because of how clean the transformation is, the detail, the surprisingly limber poseability, just everything about it is just class
2:45 "so you can hit people with hubcap flamethrowers" LOL. That's funny and it passes too quickly to appreciate how you used several sizes of flame effect-part, but the sequence could be easily extended by flipping the frames a couple of times: flame-3-2-1-2-3-2-1.
Theory: This *was* meant to be Animated Bulkhead, but thanks to how much the fandom won't shut up about TFP (and also because of Arcee being in Wave 1 and Knock Out being in Wave 2), the designers quickly changed his head to be that of TFP Bulkhead and marketed him as such. Personally, this is just Bulkhead. Not TFP, not Animated... just Bulkhead from a G1-adjacent world where he's chums with Wheeljack, Grapple and Hoist. Sure, he can throw down with the biggest brutes the Decepticons can throw his way, but in his spare time he likes creating stuff and helping Wheeljack tinker with sciencey stuff. Y'know, a respectable middle ground between the "generic tough guy" of Prime and "clumsy gentle giant engineering savant" he was in Animated.
11:23 “... and never really appreciated its true quality" Bulkhead after winning TLE's fan poll : a chance for bulkhead captain of the big boys to show his quality
Always enjoy your reviews. I 100% agree that it's nice to get a vehicle mode that isn't another sports car. Character wise, I prefer Animated Bulkhead's likeable underdog opposed to the Prime generic tough bot. I do wish they made his face more G1. I never liked the stylised aesthetics of recent series. Anywho, great review as always and Merry Christmas.
I like to think of it as being Prime Bulkhead after deciding to scan a new vehicle mode, and doing so had the unintended effect of adjusting his bot mode to allow the parts to move easier between modes.
Great Review! Bulkhead goes well with that Origins Bumblebee, besides him and Bumblebee usually being buds, Bulkhead is one of the few figures who can carry his Conductor rods (which won't have enough energy to last a cortex)
As I have said, there is nothing wrong with this figure, it was just silly to try and label him as a 'Prime' version of Bulkhead. He's just a G1 version of a character that didn't exist in G1 originally, simple as that. Hardly the first time a TF character has moved from one part of the franchise to another by being popular.
I'm one of the people who really disliked what they did with the prime characters, whether or not they ended up as good figures. I'm just glad that skyquake looks amazing
I loved both the Animated and Prime versions of Bulkhead, but this one has become my favorite. I kind of miss the CHUGs days when instead of the slavish adherence to G1 accuracy, we got updated designs that were reminiscent of G1, but were their own thing. I wish Hasbro would play with that more in the Legacy line.
Things like Generations Sergeant Kup, Reveal the Shield Perceptor, and Thrilling 30 Sandstorm were the shit. ESPECIALLY Sandstorm. The one with the huge wheels.
@@Allhailclaytron I have the Leadfoot/Masterdominus 2-pack as the latter was interesting. Plus Lumaken recently posted his animation of the set on Twitter which gave me the impulse to buy.
I remember the day Bulkhead was revealed before Wave 1 of Legacy came out and I was just super excited to get a Bulkhead figure after I missed my chance to get him when I was a kid and Animated hit the rounds. Granted I was poor when I was a kid so I couldn't get ANY Animated figures, which is why I'm real glad Legacy is giving the stand-out characters another shake again, and as a grown man with his own disposable income that ISN'T all spent on weed and pills, I can finally get my hands on my favorite dimwitted but pure of heart space bridge technician! Hell, I remember when he first hit store shelves I rode my bike like 2 miles to my local Target to nab him. That bike broke on the way back, but it was worth it.
G1 toon went out of its way to hide the wheels. The engineering it takes to do that on some of the characters is mind blowing. Me, I prefer the wheels to be hidden. Especially since most of the wheels don’t scale with the rest of the vehicle.
I'm an old G1 fan who started collecting again for the first time since G1. I know nothing about the franchise after G1. This Bulkhead toy is AMAZING. I love it. This would have been one of my favorites as a kid. He's big and mean looking and it's awesome. I'm loving the Legacy line so far. Jihaxus was another surprise favorite for me. I still think the little leg wings and color palette are a bit silly but a really solid toy. The Menasor Decepticons have been a bit disappointing but still waaaay better than the ones I had as a kid. Honestly picking these up has been a lot of fun.
I always love when I open UA-cam and see a new posting from you. I've had bulkhead for months and he's the only bulkhead I've owned and I have to say I enjoy the toy.
I love your work! I love this version of Bulkhead. I have not watched either Prime or Animated but I still know who he is. I have for years believed the same Transformers exist in each universe with Optimus and Megatron being exceptions. I'd love to see even more non-G1 characters show up and take on the G1 style. The G1 characters have been redesigned before for various media, why not the other series' characters?
Highly recommend you to watch prime. It's easily the best transformers show. Animated is also great, but it takes far more liberties with its ideas, meaning that it might not appeal to a lot of people.
I watched it over the course of 2 and a half days with the movies and even a fan pic lol. I've not watched ANY TV in like 2 or 3 years. Book of Boba, but that's all. Til Prime, and couldn't stop til it was done literally
Well, the Kenobi fan edit that stripped out all the bs. Different IP I know, but obviously there's ridiculous crossover in the fandom. I'd recommend that 2.5hr fan edit of Kenobi also if you didn't watch the whole thing when it aired. I'm so glad all I've seen is dudes edit.
i will say time and time again, this bulkhead always screamed AOE HOUND rather than any bulkhead incarnation. this figure looks good, it seems fun, fits bulkhead well, but it feels like it stole someone else's alt mode.
I got him for $20 because Amazon Warehouse was selling off some damaged-box stock. He's a great figure, and easily best of the year for THAT price! You can untab his waist to get some back-arch going on too, just to round out the articulation available. ... I kind of want to hook him up with Cyberverse Clobber, as of the end-of-series peace treaty. Their toys look pretty cool side by side, at least, and she's another unabashed big chonky robot with a big chonky vehicle mode.
Okay, the card looks cool, Bulkhead beating the ever loving scrap out of the heap of junk that is Classics Starscream, or just the 2006/2008 Seeker mold in general.
The figure itself is aces. I just dislike when Hasbro gaslights like we're in Ironman 2. "Oh look it's that figure you like!" "What? Nah, that's not my bot." "Sure, it is. It has that thing." "That's not my bot." And the solution is so easy: make up a dimension. I don't think you could get away with calling it Animated Bulkhead. Try it if you can, but if not, make up a dimension. Call it the Rahsaan Dimension. This is Bulkhead and Arcee from a dimension 2 doors down from Prime. It is the perfect catch all for all those close, but no cigar figures. Cartoon shaded Cliffjumper? Came through the Rahsaan Dimension. Skullgrin is out of scale with the other Pretenders? Escaped from the Rahsaan Dimension. Legend scale OP and Megs? A rule from the Rahsaan Dimension. Leaders are small while foot soldiers are huge. Legacy is the ultimate hall pass, just put a little spin on it.
Seeing this review, I'm suddenly wondering if Hasbro in future will redo the mold for the Grapple/Inferno/Hauler/Artfire. They'd mainly just need to redo the accesory frame. May need a higher price to account for a larger accessory, but then it could carry more gimmicks?
There are these small little nubs on the back the minigun that can plug into a little hole where the spare tires fold away to give him a soundwave style shoulder cannon. Just thought I’d point it out
Ive always been of the opinion that this Bulkhead is more of an amalgamation of three characters: Animated BulkHead, Prime Bulkhead, and Bayverse Hound. Because Bayverse Hound actually shared a lot of design choices with Bulkhead, moreso than with his original namesake Hound. It wouldnt surprise me if Hound was originally supposed to be named Bulkhead but it was changed for a more recognizable G1 name. Mind you that doesnt bother me any, because this figure rocks hard.
@@TheLazyEyebrow you are definitely not wrong on that. a friend of mine had made the same comparison , and I am inclined to agree. I think hasbro just wanted to use drift at that point, maybe just to keep the copyright alive?
@@TheLazyEyebrow also, I know I didn't say it in my opening comment, but I love your reviews and animations. We don't always agree on everything, but I appreciate your opinions and what scale references you bring to the table. Keep on doing what you do, eyebrow
i dont know what it is but i would love an inferno with this mold, something about it just tells me it'd look alright and better scaled than the kingdom/earthrise molds
I had a difficult time turning him back into a truck. I felt stupid and incompetent. He looks great through and I foresee an optimus remold out of him.
I hear you. The way the waist moves took me like 6 attempts to animate it because I kdpt getting lost. Now that it's filmed, it's locked in upstairs haha
10:40 it’s cool that most of the TFP gang’s there, at least in spirit. Except Ultra Magnus and Cliffjumper, but let’s be honest cliff’s half the bot he used to be. (Also the Animated cast at 10:32)
My problem with Legacy Bulkhead is that if he released at a later time as a new G1 version of him, I'd be perfectly fine with it, but instead they decided his first new figure in years should be a clearly pure G1 design advertised as his Prime version. No. Even ignoring the clear plastic chest that's gonna be causing break reports in 2-3 years, the fact that Prime fans are getting shafted by the all-consuming tendrils of G1 makes me absolutely livid. We've been getting beautifully faithful Unicron Trilogy figures out of Legacy, so why can't Prime get the same treatment.
I wanted to say that take great care of the gun if you don't want it broken cause idk how it happened but a corner of the port on the left broke and in between the two side ports it cracked so be careful if you don't want it broken
I remember getting him a day before the wrecker version got announced and I kinda got mad as the camo colors works a lot more for a military truck than the pine green we got here. Still a great figure nonetheless

Not likely. Inferno/grapple dont get the "big star" treatment often. He is more likely to get retooled into something like Pyro, if retooled at all
@@Yamatonix11 was thinking after-the-comment it may be more a fan-custom kind of project.
Be cool to see if anyone ever does.
Honestly one of the best figures i’ve got all year
yeah he’s not accurate but he’s just
he’s just so good
Awesome wallet and KeyCase 🔥
There are these small little nubs on the back the minigun that can plug into a little hole where the spare tires fold away to give him a soundwave style shoulder cannon. Just thought I’d point it out
Best part of the video was you reading the copy!
Mind you that doesnt bother me any, because this figure rocks hard.
honestly wished that Bay had've just gone with Bulkhead in the first place
for that matter, Drift should've just been Springer
@@TheLazyEyebrow you are definitely not wrong on that. a friend of mine had made the same comparison , and I am inclined to agree. I think hasbro just wanted to use drift at that point, maybe just to keep the copyright alive?
@@TheLazyEyebrow also, I know I didn't say it in my opening comment, but I love your reviews and animations. We don't always agree on everything, but I appreciate your opinions and what scale references you bring to the table. Keep on doing what you do, eyebrow
@@TheLazyEyebrowdrift would not have worked a springer, and hound does not work as bulkhead, they're way to different in personality
i dont know what it is but i would love an inferno with this mold, something about it just tells me it'd look alright and better scaled than the kingdom/earthrise molds
@@osprey_06 have you seen the old universe molds for Grap/Ferno?
blown away by the Gei 4 Mei shoutout here. crossover of the CENTURY lmao
They say accute sensitivity to sound is a sign of intelligence
Merry Christmas, i love Bulkhead.🎄🚙
I have the legacy Bulkhead and I was honestly surprised too
My legacy bulkhead’s calves and hands yellowed a lot but I find cool looking. PS, there’s an upgrade kit for siege ultra Magnus
Nice detail using the transformers prime transformation sound
Amazing review like always
the 5mm ports on the wheels, i added weaponiser parts to give the vehicle legs
10:40 it’s cool that most of the TFP gang’s there, at least in spirit. Except Ultra Magnus and Cliffjumper, but let’s be honest cliff’s half the bot he used to be.
(Also the Animated cast at 10:32)
He would look great with a wash and maybe a camo paint job.
I usually either leave the gun in the back or plug it into the 5 millimeter port on top
I love this figure so much I'm planning to make some upgrades for it, I just with there was a way to make the chest feel less hollow
I swear, Legacy is literally the toyline for Transformers Earth Wars, because bulkhead looks exactly like that in-game.
And in IDW 2.0
And if you want a more military deco you can get Wreck'n'Rule Bulkhead
Alternative title: Bulkhead I Needed That Review
I never picked up a Bulkhead, but this review may have bought me round, he looks like a lot of fun.
this review kinda brought me around too. the thing was sitting on a shelf as "oh yeah, that figure" until it won the poll haha
I wanted to say that take great care of the gun if you don't want it broken cause idk how it happened but a corner of the port on the left broke and in between the two side ports it cracked so be careful if you don't want it broken
There’s a Wreck n’ Rule figure for Bulkhead that comes with Breakdown’s hammer
This big green guy won me over, saw the review and its now sitting under my christmas tree lol
Some may argue that bee is a cab torso bot
honestly this review gave me a new appreciation for this figure i loved it when i got it but i love it even more now after watching this
I remember getting him a day before the wrecker version got announced and I kinda got mad as the camo colors works a lot more for a military truck than the pine green we got here. Still a great figure nonetheless
